I just checked out spaceweather.com and the sunspot cycle seems to be picking up again. There are now 5 active sunspots. There are no flares on thier way right now, but I noticed that sunspot 1176 has swung around again. This sunspot 1176 is the same one that occured as sunspot 1166 which sent us the x-flare on March 9th. This flare from March 9th reached earth on March 11th, and we all know what happened to Japan on that date. Here is a link for anyone else who would like to research this for themselves.

I think we are a bit overreacting every time something happens with the sun. Many of these things happened before and yes we should pay attention on the sun but we shouldn't panic or evoke bad things.

According to Patrick Geryl and Maya calendar next important date for sunspot circle is April 19. Well ill watch what will be happening to the sun, specially on that date but lets not overreact.

Apparently so does the glacial cycle according to

Who is over-reacting? Did I say we were going to be hit by another flare? I am just putting the info out there for you to look at and judge for yourself.

Just went and had a quick peek through the Bino's (with filter!!! Please dont look at the sun without a correct solar filter!!!!).... 2 of them are pretty big from my limited viewing I have observed on the sun.

Thanks for the heads-up which made me go and take a peek.

If its sunny tomorrow then I may well get the 8" scope out and do some photos.....

I noticed the sun spots and the funny thing is I was trying to see what land mass they looked like! I remember a thread on here a while back that was trying to string together the location of an earthquake that had happened to to shape of the sun spots. The theory was strange but when you look at the shape of the sun spot to the shape of the earthquake affected area they did look eerily similar.
I'm too lazy right now to hunt for the thread, but with the shape of these new sun spots thats what it made me think about!

What about the X flare on February 15th this year?

I don't recall any large earthquakes after that one, do you?

USGS agrees too, nothing larger than magnitude 5.6 here.

I said "we are". Please don't think that im attacking you or something because I am not.
But mentioning Japan and disasters every time something happens to the sun is a bit overreacting for me. And you are not only one who does that, so I wrote "we are".

Yes, I remember the thread you are talking about, I think someone said that one of the sunspots looked like Haiti.

Not to worry, I am not taking it as an attack. Just want people to realize that the sunspots IMO are related to earthquakes, I am sure that is not the only factor, but my research continues. It's just a heads up, not saying we will get a flare or large earthquake just that in my opinion we should be watchful.

Cheers

Holy crap a 6.1 in Indonesia!

So how did this flare on the 15th create an earthquake on the 15th?

Considering the fastest known flare took 18 hours to reach earth (it was also the largest ever recorded too), I don't see how it could cause a measly 6.1 quake the same day it erupted.

And for shirts and giggles, here's a list of magnitude 5 and greater quakes in Indonesia this year...

Last year I thought I had the whole thing figured out, I tried connecting the sun and moon cycles to see if my theory was correct, this year seems a little different, perhaps there is another body in the solar system also effecting the mix, my research continues

Sweet, there is nearly enough sunspots to warrant bothering to start taking pics of the sun again.
The more the merrier.

Well today we have 6 spots to concern ourselves with and a new moon coming on April 3rd, and a possibility of two of the sunspots giving off at least an M-class wave, perhaps we should be ready for another major rocking of the planet. I hate making predictions, and pray I am wrong, but if my theory holds any water, I expect a major quake between March 30th-April 5th.

What is considered 'major'...anything over 6?
