My Fellow ATS friends, please excuse my ignorance and laziness on this post.
I do not know how to imbed video or pictures, or even text. I do know how to insert links however.
So it will be. Please type in "yucca Mountain" on google images, and then read on. (My bad for link)

We all now know(and some have known) that on site nuclear fuel rod, liquid, and other waste is a "Dirty Bomb"
ticking away. Vulnerable to Human Error, Natural Disasters, Decrepitude, and Sabotage.

But Do You Know That U.S.Taxpayers Have Already Spent BILLIONS on the best storage facilities that the level of
human intelligence and ability can provide?

I submit to you that The Federal Government of The United States of America should exercise the method of
Eminent Domain
en.wikipedia.org...

For the purpose of safeguarding The Nation. All Nuclear Waste should be relocated to depositories without
delay.

Here are some links to Verify and Validate my Claims. We have already paid for it folks.

en.wikipedia.org...

usgovinfo.about.com...

homelandsecuritynewswire.com...

homelandsecuritynewswire.com...

www.iaea.org...

www.agiweb.org...

www.treehugger.com...

Why Would They oppose this?

Type in Yucca Mountain on Google Images for yourself. (My Link to this does not work).

You will be ASTOUNDED at the pictures.

We Have MAMMOTH underground facilities already constructed for this purpose, in several locations.
The fact that the Nuclear Waste has not been properly stored or accounted for , suggests not only
mismanagement, but complete lack of leadership.

I am sharing to you that this Nuclear Waste alone is more than enough to depopulate the earth
of all its myriad of species through DNA breakdown. Even your so called "Elite" are not immune.
Wake up and smell the Cesium137,Iodine131,Plutonium,Uranium,Strontium 90,Krypton 85,and about
89 others because you paid for it. Enjoy your new perfume...."Radiance" . No Joke.

Yucca Mountain is on a Native American reserve. After investing billions of dollars into researching its capacity as a nuclear storage facility, we know its a somewhat porous rock with the possibility of leaching into groundwater...

So, it was a billion dollar boondoggle? So now we will leave the "dirty bombs" in the open,
I beg to differ. Those salt mines are about as stable as modern man can attain.
Native Americans will all die with us as well eventually. We are all on this Big Blue Ship together.
Like it or not. You ATS folks talk about the underground facilities. Well here is the The Kingpin.
Yucca Mountain.
Designed for Nuclear Waste Storage,,,but Politically just a big hole in the ground that you have poured
your child's education fund into. In the meantime Rome is Burning, and D.C. fiddles away.
I appreciate your reply and dissent. It makes me think harder.

I actually saw an article today in las vegas weekly www.lasvegasweekly.com... it said that Yucca mtn is on a fault line.
and only 90 miles from those of us that live in vegas

Took us billions of dollars to figure that out now did it?
Native Land, Porous rock?
Yeah right.
It has more to do with dissent to transport.(COST to Owners of Nuclear Facilities)
If we are going to continue Nuclear, we MUST use the best storage facilities that our level of humanity
can create. Clearly, storing spent fuel rods in giant swimming pools above or below REACTORS is not
only a temporary solution, but foolish, and UNSOUND. Need I mention completely selfish considering our great, great, great
grandchildren. Yours, and mine, and theirs.

I agree with investigating alternative measures to dispose of nuclear waste by forming the 'Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future', but I disagree with the way the administration explicitly ruled out Yucca mountain before forming the BRC. If Yucca mountain wasn't good enough - then the BRC should come to the same conclusion. In other words, they ruled out Yucca mountain then decided to created a commission to decide what to do with the waste, rather than the other way around.

In light of the incident at Fukushima, perhaps in the short-term it would be prudent to move fuel from spent fuel pools to dry-cask storage, in order to prevent any possibility of hydrogen explosions, zirconium fires, and criticality incidents. In the longer term perhaps it would be better to reduce the volume, life-span and toxicity of nuclear waste through advanced (not MOX & PUREX) recycling technologies. The end product from that lasts approximately 500 years and the overall volume is sharply reduced, hence Yucca moutain could be considered good enough and we would be making electricity while destroying nuclear waste.

That is a lie. The fault line is in the wallets of those whose greed is greater than their respect for not only
their fellow man, but their family, community, state, and country as well. Don't ever forget it. Regards

Irrelevant.

The US makes enough chlorine gas each year to kill 400 trillion people. It's just impossible to equally distribute that amount of chlorine to every single person on earth as much of it will become immobile and also there is no way that it can all leak at once. Same with nuclear waste..

Hello There, Thanks for your thoughts. You know ,intuitively, that something needs to be done. Hard Cask
TEMPORARY storage should be the law of the land. But what then? HHMMMM a man made Boron Mine?
That is A Lot of Money. Hard Cask Storage is a lot of money.Clearly, Hard Cask entombment and then transported to Underground Hub facilities is the best response our current level of intelligence allows. Salt Mines are extremely
stable(except for corrosion).(Polymer encasement would be required). By creating "Hubs" and thus fewer storage sites, it would be more efficient economically to guard and maintain. Again, to address my topic, we have already
built such facilities. The truth is, in the long run(considering maintenance and management) Nuclear is Not Cost
Effective. It is Front loaded bang for the buck with a 30,000 year more or less half life, depending on the isotope.
I really appreciate your reply....thank you....made me think.

Yucca Mtn area HAS HAD earthquakes in the recent past doing some damage !!!

www.reviewjournal.com...

www.state.nv.us...

geode.colorado.edu...

they wouldn't want a big time "accident" now would they ?

besides that, the TRANSPORTATION of the waste is a BIG concern !

Harry Reid Himself is quoted from 2002:

"Today we saw more proof that the proposed Yucca Mountain nuclear dump site is not safe," Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said in a statement.

Reid said though there also are risks with possible transportation accidents "from 100,000 truckloads and 20,000 trainloads of deadly waste through 43 states ... we cannot forget that there's another danger that after the waste arrives at Yucca Mountain, it will still not be safe."

"There is no need to rush to build a nuclear repository when there are so many unanswered questions about its safety and security," Reid's statement says.

I beg to differ. One Massive solar flare, or a series of such could create a domino effect resulting in multiple
failures of redundancy. In that scenario we would not only experience multiple meltdowns, but a chlorine gas
party as well. Not to mention all the other ugly things that most people dare not think about. I do respect your
statistics though. Thanks!

the above post was a link to the Yucca Mountain earthquakes ????

the sources were local Las Vegas newspaper articles.

it looks like there is some kind of "legal" problems concerning Yucca !!!!!

the quotes were from Senator Harry reid stating that Yucca Mtn was UNSAFE, and transporting the waste was a major concern ....... quotes were from June 15, 2002, right after an EQ at Yucca !!!!!

here are a couple of other links anyway .......

One more thing, correct me if I am wrong, but does not chlorine gas break down rather quickly, especially in
the presence of ultraviolet light? Where as the Isotopes I am discussing have upwards of a half life of thousands
of years? In other words, I do understand your Lethal Dose 50 factor for chlorine gas, but sincerely you are smarter
than that to compare that with radioactive isotopes. So what is you angle?

They aren't putting nuclear waste into Yucca mountain because of the Hopi Indian prophecy. They plan on using it as a ARC for humanity to survive the Hopi prediction.

If nothing happens by 2014 the mountains getting stuffed with nuclear waste. That's why Yucca's sittin' empty. Just go ask a Hopi elder, they requested this.

Well no, it is about the cost of doing the proper thing. Which would be to encase/cask the spent fuel rods
as well as liquid waste. This alone would cost a fortune. Then, it would have to be transported in a Safe and
Guarded manner to a Federally Designated Containment Site. Where it would be properly stored and labeled.
If Constitutional law prevailed in this case, the owners/producers of said waste would be liable for periodic
re-casking and cleanup of any leaks in perpetuity. S A V V Y ?
Thank You
