Seriously, a woman can never have sex and still not have a hymen. It's not as rare as most MEN think. Vigorous sports, horseback riding and other similar things can detach a hymen.

And you think those unintelligent, backwards thinking idiots know anything about the human body?

Sounds like you haven't heard of what's going on in muslim countries. This is pretty harmless, at least the soldier's didn't rape the women after finding out they're virgins. At least that's what i expected from such a backward country.
I have been to egypt, it's such a nice place with 3 meter high trash mountains in every street, a Nile full of trash, burning tires on the road and people who think they are allowed to do anything and don't have any respect for women (or tourists or basically anyone that isn't egypt - i've been to so many countries but honestly the muslim countries are really bad. People think they can grab your arm or touch you, talk # to you because they think they're awesome and whatnot. I never experienced such things in other non-muslim countries).
And it's such a nice place where camels are more worth than women

It's pretty bad that some people think this is propaganda. Stuff like that happens in those countries all the time, even worse things.
And sometimes even in other countries (the usual suspects i would say).
To that propaganda-shouting guy: Ever read for example the story of the girl who drives around chernobyl? KidofSpeed or something. She tells basically the same, that at those checkpoints in the zones the soldiers take advantages and force women to strip down because they "could be contaminated"

While I agree that various sins and horrific institutionalised abuse happens in Muslim nations, I would also slam your head in a car door for your own towering ignorance regarding the intellectual capability of persons from Muslim nations.
There are a hell of a lot of highly qualified doctors, surgeons, lawyers, physicists and academics in the Islamic world, and many who hail from there. Another thing you might want to force yourself to remember is that the seat, the very ORIGINS of scientific thought, are in the history of the Arab regions of the world, rather than to be found in either oriental asia, Europe or the Americas.
There is nothing wrong with the basic IQ or potential of persons in Muslim nations. The problem, as always , lies with governments and educators as they stand today, which are in a poor state after decades of having the living hell bombed out of them by everyone from Russia to the good old US of A and my own nation .

This sounds like something that would work well in the USA too. I mean comon if a woman isnt married and shes lost her virginity, its pretty obvious shes a prostitute and needs charged as one.

Nice place, huh?

Oh, it's a lovely place if you're one of the Muslim Brotherhood.
If you're not, then you're chit out of luck.

I am deeply appalled by these actions subjected to
the women AND men in Egypt. But you can't say I
didn't warn you that this revolution was gonna get
hijacked. Trading one dictator for a military dictator
is NOT an improvement.

oh well, looks like a new revolution is in order.
Sooner or later, a good person will emerge
on the scene to lead rather than torture.
But of course, that may take a decade ...
or two.

Providing Israel does not destroy them first.

Well those may be valid points, but all of what you just said still does not change the fact these women should have their own humanitarian right to privacy concerning such things.

All Humans need equal rights. Gender is immaterial and only forces more separation. Human first.

The events are an outrage. The story is doing what it was designed to do and force polarity of public opinion.

If the people that can make a change are busy bickering about what was stolen, the burglar has time to escape.

Propeganda it may well be, but I fail to see how it is being used to justify a continued occupation. Occupation of where precisely ? Egypt is not occupied by anyone accept Egyptians largely speaking. Could you make your point a little more clearly, with more detail perhaps?

There are 100 threads on ATS about the US sponsoring the primary dissident in the 'revolution'. Sure Egypt is occupied by Egyptians. Those are 100% US and EMEA approved oligarchy Egyptians that rule in the interests of the the flow of money. The uprising was entertainment until the Suez canal was impacted. That is the commerce path to the west and the path for the US to continue its war on the 7 middle eastern nations following 9/11. Egypt is also the only friend that Israel has in the region. So at face value I can see where most think that Egypt is a free land unoccupied by the empire.

I mean no disrespect in this thread. I am however a bit disappointed that people are so easily distracted from the one war going on in this world.

Swim upstream towards the source.

Peace.

Why should it matter if a female protester is a virgin?

This is exactly what is wrong with this site. No one is shouting. ALL CAPS = Shouting in a written setting. Yes, there are millions of these examples in the media.

This is one point I continue to make. The stories themselves are tools to divide the people they program.

In Texas, USA an 11 year old girl was raped by 18+ non-Muslim Americans. How does that look from your Muslim hatred soapbox speech you just gave? It is travesty. The worst part of the story is that initially they only arrested the black participants. Of course, that has all been addressed now. Where is the outcry to protect the children of this nation while the empire continues its destruction of the middle east?

Thank you for restating your point more clearly. Occupation is traditionaly used more as a military term for a force of non native soldiers controling a region or nation , and that is why I was confused about your meaning. In terms of politics I would largely agree with you in terms of Egypts relationship with Israel and the US, but at the very same time, I have to say that as much as people are getting to believe that the protests in Egypt were a flash in the pan, I must remind everyone that they were one hell of a flash.

A nation which had not seen a proper change, or any democratic process worth a damn for thirty plus years, and all of a sudden the streets are flooded and the people determined to change thier corner of the world. These are not things which are done lightly , and although some might accuse world stage players, of influencing the outcomes of uprisings and so on, what one cannot refute is the emotional weight of the millions of people who have protested, not just in Egypt, but across the whole of the middle East and northern Africa.

One more thing. Specificaly related to the topic being discussed, I see this as very simple. If the story is false, and propeganda, then someones head should roll for it. If the story is true, and is being used as propeganda, then folk should just grow up, ignore the political trash that accompanies such a tale, find the real context for the incident, and then be angry about the reality of the situation, rather than because some media germ wants us to hate the Muslims. The story itself however, if factual, must stand on its own strength, and not the strength of the barely repressed xenophobia that is all too common amongst some people around here.

Women arrested by the Egyptian police during protests in Cairo's Tahrir Square were subjected to forced 'virginity tests', according to Amnesty International.

Amnesty today said that the women had been beaten, given electric shocks and then subjected to strip searches while being photographed by male soldiers.

They were then given 'virginity checks' and threatened with prostitution charges if medics ruled they had had sex, according to the charity.
(visit the link for the full news article)

When I read the thread title, at first I thought "oh, my", but then as I was reading the news snippet, I realized that it sounds exactly like what I understand they do here in America at the prisons, strip searches electric shocks and all.. and for the guys, I hear that it's like a butt virginity check that they do.
I just don't think they've done the prostitution charge thing yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have..
Maybe Amnesty International should do some monitoring around here. I'm more likely to get a strip search right here in America, right around the corner at the Cleveland Greyhound Station... oops, I already have.. but where was this "Amnesty International" then??
Oh, the hypocrisy.
