Excellent bit of info.

So what we should be looking for then is all these going off, and no major contributory quake having been reported as a signal to start digging hole in the ground then???!

Well unfortunately if something like a radical tectonic plate move occurs, a hole in the ground may be the worst place to be- cause you'll likely get squished like an ant under Goliath's foot. Me? You'll find me up in the most sturdy, thick tree I can find- holding on for dear life. It might beat me to death cause of the massive quake, but at least it's not likely to fall in the earth even if a massive crack opens up- the extensive roots would probably still hold it in place.

a 3.7 happened in Cali not too long ago so maybe between the Myanmar and all this is the result... the waves from the pebbles and then smaller pebbles???

As TA says, no problems here. This is the Myanmar quake doing that.

Go to this page which is full of links to teach you how to read a seismogram BUT in particular the first link takes you to a page all about reading the LISS helicorder plots that is designed to help you interpret just exactly this type of situation.

Hmmm. Ping Puterman and TrueAmerican to take a look, but I think we saw similar after the Japan quake and may likely just be ringing/echo from the Myanmar quake today.

Is TrueAmerican a geophysicist or something, I mean why ask him lol, I spewed beer all over my keyboard when reading his Yellowstone thread.

Can anyone answer why the North Carolina chart doesn't show much activity while South Carolina and Virginia do?
Live Internet Seismic
Just scroll down a few and look in the right column where it says "US/CNNC, Cliffs of the Neuse, North Carolina, USA"
It's the only one out of all of them that is showing very little activity.

Maybe not, but certainly a hell of a lot closer to being one than you or 95% of the rest of us here on ATS. As he's already stated many times, the Yellowstone thread was an honest mistake, perhaps the first time he's properly monitored the after affects that a +9 earthquake will create. Now he's all the more experienced and far less likely to make that sort of mistake.

In the end, I and many others still regard him and Puterman as our top resident experts on the subject matter, and will continue to seek their advice in cases such as these.

Because I live only 25 miles from Goldsboro, N.C. (Cliffs of the Neuse) and I am holding things down in this part of the state....

bmck, Alabama has had 2 earthquakes at least since Sunday. I have been monitoring them. up north by Huntsville where I used to live. Outside of Knoxville had one today and Carolina's have too. suddenly increasing with Arkansas not Missouri part of new Madrid where I live. I have monitored California on several sites since early last week after Japan hit and everyone was saying CA was going to have the big one. It was dead quiet until around Sun then bam but all started tiny. very strange all at ones, then at 2, then at 3 for like the last 2-3 days. that I know is not normal to climb starting at zero? now starting to tap 4. a lot is in the gulf of Ca.and even NV is getting in on it. really interesting. There is even one cluster in CA that is hitting consistently same place like the same cluster in ARK.

Between the "rumblings", massive earthquakes, etc I am afraid there might be an ELE on our horizon, folks....

Everything's fine. . .nothing to see. Sometimes this happens when humidity levels increase and barometric pressure decreases to the exact consistency of swamp gas. Yes, believe it or not, swamp gas can trigger these highly inaccurate seismowhatchamacallits.

Return to your work and shopping. . .all is well.

Seriously, I've never seen them so. . .active in such a short time. It reminds me of that egg in the microwave scenario.

Hey right on, the house experts... luckily Yellowstone's super-volcano didn't pop it's top, yet... and my keyboard is still working, guess it's beer proof. Anyway those World Wide Seismometers could be picking something else up, as you know of other strange anomalies have gone unexplained lately. I would think the instrumentation for those seismometers would be attenuated, calibrated to remain on scale, only picking up ground motions from regional earthquakes...

I have a question, is it legal to modify results from live seismograms? If so, for what purpose?

The reason I ask is because here and there I will see something very strange, a seismogram that records and than has this chunk of data missing?

If the case where true(theoretically), what would be the purpose of such things?

I am currently sitting about 30ft from the Hawaii shore and about 20ft up, am listening to the waves as I type. If some one can explain them great, as you can imagine a tad concerned atm.

I reckon between the 28 to 30th March there'll be another big quake affecting the West Coast of the USA. Just my 2 cents.

I appreciate you holding it down over there for us here in Western NC
. I thought it was odd how the rest of the United States graphs are all over the place but NC's graph is nothing in comparison. Is NC a safe haven for this kind of activity? It's not the only graph that's around mountains so I've eliminated the possibility of it being dampened by the terrain. The things that make you go Hmmmm.
