I now have to go into a 5th year of high school because I lost my 4th year due to smoking way too much pot (daily basis from summer to summer pretty much). But that's not the drugs fault, I was stupid with it. I didn't balance my priorities with my recreational activities. Way too much of one thing basically.

I came out of it a lot smarter though. Now I'm not blazing, haven't for about a good month, and don't plan to until at least a year from now. Maybe longer.

Again, chronic didn't do this to me. I just couldn't balance drugs and school. Some people can (whether it be school, or other things), and that's good for them, they have a lot of will power. Personally, I'm a man that likes things in excess.

As for health issues? I don't remember seeing any solid studies that show it as a bad thing...cook with it or use a vapourizer if your worried about it affecting your lungs...

Gateway drug? Nah...that's bull...people are just naturally curious, especially in their teens...

I myself was curious to see how different drugs affected me, especially psychadelics.

Just my 2 cents...any thoughts?

i agree. i live in germany and i have been to amsterdam plenty of times. i have a solid job at a university and can find pot any time of the day or night. pot doesnt make you stupid unless you let it. and the vaporizer eliminates any health issues. its not half as bad as its made out to be. i have friends that have ruined their lives, and others that are on full-scholorships, and they all smoke. you just have to practice self control. advice though, dont start smoking until youre out of high school; some can handle it, but others cant. be smart and control yourself!

Totally agreed practise self-control and you'll do fine in life. That said there is something called "amotivational syndrome" which affects 1:100 people. I personally know a few people where pot has totally taken control of thier lives. I know MANY MANY more people that use it and are 100% fine (except the lung damage). Of course to counter the lung damage you can use a vapourizer like lost has said or use it in other ways as I have posted. Besides people we all know why its not legal - money.

And I highly doubt people that are pot heads are going to take the time out to take multi vitamins and drink water...

I have been an almost daily pot smoker from around age 21 til 37. Before that, I smoked it at parties, but took more speed than anything. I work for a drug testing employer now, so I stopped smoking completely for the past year & a half. My IQ is well into the genius range, I workout, eat healthy and keep my brain exercised as well. I have found that people who start smoking pot before they are fully developed are the ones that tend to grow up stupid and mentally stunted. There are plenty of exceptions though. As for pot making me lazy, well, I'm one of those people who lose physical acuity when stoned. I don't even like talking on the phone, let alone tackling chores and projects. So my solution is to enjoy pot at the end of the day. Sit down with a cup of tea or glass of wine, fire up a bowl and channel surf, or net surf, or read.

Pot is best around a campfire at night, with a group of friends who love to debate deep topics. It's also indispensable when a migraine hits.

All the myriad other benefits of pot make it worth legalizing aside from recreational use. Medicine, food (I eat hemp seed everyday and have lost weight & gained energy), fiber and so on. Growing hemp as a paper crop would seriously cut down (pun intended) on raping our forests into oblivion, and supposedly puts a lot of oxygen into the air.

But like others have posted, you can't patent a plant (unless you're Montesano), so the controlling factors in the pharmaceutical industry won't have it. And american governments do not want the average consumer exploring new ways of thinking that aren't fear and shopping based.

I am voting with my feet, and have applied to immigrate to Canada. Not to smoke pot legally, but to support a country that seems to use more common sense in governing its people, and less fear.

Right. It's a form of mind control. Can't have people thinking out there!

Should Canada brace for a flood of immigrants?!

Have you seen the requirements for immigration?!? You have to document your entire life from age 18, pass a criminal background check, get a medical exam, score enough points on an assessment test, have job skills deemed necessary by the Canadian government, and, last but not least show proof, up until you cross the border, that you have at least enough readily available cash to support yourselves for 6 months. That worked out to almost 10K US for 2 people. We sold all our real estate and are living in a rental while we wait for approval.

I've read that only 5000 per year go from the US to Canada as landed immigrants. If you really want a laugh, check out the US immigration info. From what I've read, if you can make it to the US, they'll find a way to let you stay.

That's for sure. I especially realized that on shrooms...anyone who has done them knows the thought patterns you get...can't have the average joe thinking deeper now, that'll make him stop and question his reality! Nope...can't have that.

It's referenced in the article, but on the same day the study came out, Paul Martin, the Canadian Prime Minister reiterated his intent to decriminalize marijuana.

Also on Wednesday, Prime Minister Paul Martin said that his government would re-introduce decriminalization legislation when Parliament resumes in October.

"The legislation on marijuana the decriminalization of minor quantities of marijuana that legislation will be introduced," Mr. Martin told reporters after the first Liberal cabinet meeting was held.

We're pushing ahead with decriminalizing any quantity less than 15 grams (which is about a half-ounce), making it a ticketable offense (like a parking ticket), rather than a criminal one.

I'm figuring that the way we're moving, I'm getting ready for some kickin' Reggae Festivals.

Not to mention that EVERYONE will be filming movies here, having benefit concerts, etc.

Book your vacation spots now.

But Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh, sworn into cabinet just one day earlier, dismissed the suggestion that decriminalization would lead to greater use.

"I'm not so sure whether that argument has any validity. I don't know what the correlation is," he said after attending his first federal cabinet meeting.

"My view is that, if you make something illegal, some people are more attracted to it. . .If you allow people to possess it in small quantities for personal use, the allure kind of disappears for some people."

I'm driving to Ottawa to kiss this mofo. Ujjal you ma boy!

I think this news explains a lot of posts I have seen on this site. Don't get me wrong. I frequently indulged in the "herb superb" for many years, so I'm not really being holier than thou. I think I wasted many years of my life getting stoned when I should have been doing better things.

An increase in substance abuse should never be heralded. It is bad news for any nation.

Pot does make you stupider while you're on it. And lazier. It can quickly become a crutch. It's kind of like drinking in that regard. It becomes difficult to enjoy things without it if you're a chronic user. I guess it should be legal because it's not really hurting anyone. Tax it and use the proceeds to fund schools. The US government is currently suing tobacco for like $284 billion and cigarettes are already taxed out that ying yang. The only reason pot's probably illegal is because the industry is difficult to control and earn proceeds from, unlike heroin and coc aine, which the government can fly into the country itself.

I don't agree with it...

My friend was a very active person smart got good grades, and then turned to pot...

Now she's a drug dealer and sits on her ass all day and smoke 6+ joints a day.

She's a total loser now.......Pot makes you lazy, my step mother goes on it and gets fat, she sits on her ass as soon as she gets home and munches out...

Her son smokes joints w/ her, then he dropped out of high school and started smoking pot.....he works now, but he can't hold a job...

All the people I know who smoke pot are really stupid...... They think their relaly creative and brilliant but imo they are far from...
And they get paranoia!!

False statements: people that are lazy and are going to be lazy no matter what. I smoke pot and am not lazy nor am I fat. I have a friend that would smoke pot and do his calculus homework and score A's in all of his classes in college. Weed in Ohio has been decriminalized. You can posses up to 100 grams before you can be charged otherwise it is a $100 dollar fine and sadly loss of your weed.

Here in North Carolina, you can get caught with half an ounce or less and face nothing but a month-long probationary sentence... but the regulations imposed by the college I'm attending are a lot more rigid.

The thing I don't get is this... there has never been a time when any sort of substance prohibition has really worked, and yet we are insisting upon keeping the stuff illegal.

A major fraction of the gross national products of several nations come from drugs... it's obvious that prohibition is doing nothing but costing the government (and thusly the taxpayers) money due to the ludicrous number of people imprisoned on drug charges.

i've read alot of the posts in here and you pepole can argue until you are blue in the face about how good and how bad it is but lets just take a look at the laws and how they come about.
i will not supply the links to the info but if you do a search on hemp embassy nimbin you will find a heap of stuff in there about it.
if you take the time to have a look at some of the old posters that were used to demonize pot made out that it made your sexual urges uncontrolable and made women easy to get into the sack SEX SELLS PEPOLE just like today.
by making pot illeagal it created a black market the price in this country at the moment is up $450AUS an ounce (in queensland where the law are most strict you can pay up to $30AUS a gram that's $800AUS an ounce)
goverments world wide sell drugs why wouldn't they pot is one of the cheaper drugs on the street and in some cases worth more than gold.
making addictive substances illeagal is not the answer moderation is the key.
just think if every old lady had a cannabis plant in their front garden most of these kids would take a few buds smoke them and be sick as a dog and probably never touch it again.
but instead goverments around the world have banded togeather to keep it illeagal and keep the black market going to line thier own pockets.
NOBODY SHOULD PROFIT FROM ADDICTIVE SUBSTANCES weather it be tobacco, pot, alcahol what ever you should be allowed at least to produce your own if you want it but if you get caught selling it capitol punnishment must apply. nobody should profit from the missery of others.

People who think they are not racist and make racist comments like Pot heads are lazy and stupid . Are only fooling their selfs into thinking they are not racist. People don't have to have the same skin color in order to be a race. Think about it would you call a black person the N word? If you say no I would not do such a racist thing. Then turn around and call a person A Pot Head/ Lazy Pot Head/ Stupid Pot Head. It is the same thing as saying that N word/ Lazy N Word, Stupid N Word. Guess what it makes you a racist.

There seems to be alot of racist on this board.

FYI no I don't smoke. I just choose not to be a racist. I choose to deny ignorance.
