ATF gunwalking scandal: Second agent speaks out

www.cbsnews.com

(CBS News) WASHINGTON - South of El Paso, Texas, on Mexico's side of the border, lies Juarez - the most dangerous city in the world. CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports ATF Special Agent Rene Jaquez has been stationed there for the past year, trying to keep U.S. guns from being trafficked into Mexico. That's why Jaquez tells CBS News he was so alarmed to hear his own agency may have done the opposite: encouraged U.S. gun dealers to sell to suspected traffickers.

This confirmation of the gunwalking scandal makes it pretty clear to me that the Obama administration is using its police agencies to stimulate the problem of gun running into Mexico to make the people demand tougher gun controls. If they can make the problem bad enough they I think hope to increase pressure to create a more intrusive and increasingly draconian gun sales tracking system. What do you think?

A.T.F is the largest distributor of guns in the world. Its a racket. Look up Jay Dobyns and how he infiltrated the Hells Angels by smuggling guns and providing them to H.A.. The investigation went belly up and they only got a few minor charges. Still sold those weapons though!

It's beyond the Obama administration. Anyone in office would be doing this. This is just government creating problems for its own benefit. If McCain were sitting in that office the same thing would be happening. If Ron Paul were sitting in that office it would still be happening but at least he'd be asking about it or calling attention to it unlike Obama or McCain. Until he was assassinated anyway.

The government is a miserable cesspool of evil and corruption. The affiliations, names and the faces of the players is inconsequential.

Good catch. S & F.

The manifesto says "the ends justify the means", so I guess these actions by DOJ of the obama administration fall under that axiom, as well.

That they want more gun control is no secret.

That they would stoop this low to accomplish that is the definition of sick IMO.

Slightly off topic... on my drive home today I heard an NPR piece on the radio where Holden was evoking outrage at how many law enforcement offices have been killed by gunfire in the line of duty,

I thought... "oh... it's another gun-control push inbound..."

Then this.... hmmmmm

Amen brother just don't buy rifles from wal-mart, unless you want the ATF to have your address. Went in the other day for a twenty two for my son to learn with and because I did not have my current address on my license I could not purchase the weapon. When I asked it was explained that it a new wal-mart wide policy to allow the ATF to track weapons purchased "in case of firearm related crime". They may have already been on ATS but if not I figured I would share.

I'd like to know more about that.

Most of the time in my dealings with Walmart these oddball "policies" were nothing more than idiot clerks who had no idea what the hell they were talking just making up nonsense as they went.

If there really is some sort of chain-wide program to submit to a national registry/tracking system I'd love to hear more.

Found this from 2008 where Walmart says they'll start videotaping all purchases:

Outstanding, thanks for the link. I am kind of glad that I was unable to purchase one there now.

This one isn't exactly like I was told but here you go radioviceonline.com..." target="_blank" class="postlink">radioviceonline.com...

This is a little more like it www.wmsa.net..." target="_blank" class="postlink">www.wmsa.net...< br />
This is all I can find on it right now, the only other advice I can give is if you have a license with an address that doesn't match your current address give it a try if you want. Who knows the guy I was going through could have been a pain to save himself the aggravation of working .

It has been my experience that in the tag team Dem-V-Rep 2 headed snake system that the Dems are the gun grabbers and the Reps are the not so much. This is ever since the Bush Sr. temporary ban on the importation of semi-automatic rifles because the gun lobby made certain he was not reelected.

That said the gun control push is mostly Dem but we all know that both parties are for more government and more government control of our freedoms.

This is true the Dems are the take the Reps are the keep em, but the are both the same coin. Reminds me of the Federalist party which once existed in the US that pushed for a strong central government that individual states where beholden to. Sorry I am a bit of a history buff. The question I have is how far do you guys think they are going to take this one before the Dems are out again for at least four years?

i do not buy the official line here that mexico gun violence is due to gun running from us.

any one with half a brain knows that an ak-47 is cheaper than a semi auto ar-15 priced at anywhere between $900 and $2500.

this story and all related information smells like a setup to push for gun bans and since the national firearms act has crime stopped? has murder stopped? has robbery stopped?

the answer is a resounding no!

keep showing your true facist nazi colors with gun bans the only thing you people have accomplished is the military and police and real criminals better armed than you civilians.

the biggest reason that want the ameican public disarmed and for all intensive purposes they have accomplished this because try getting a bullet proof vest to protect yourself in a drive buy or home invasion and just see how hard it is to get one or try go buying a gun right now 99% percent of people have no clue to even where to go locally to buy them.

the second ammendment was written for a reason its a shame people simply cannot comprehend its meaning and the true intent was not what a gun can look like, it wasnt about how many rounds it can hold it wasnt about wether or not how many rounds were fired at the pull of a trigger.

for decades the american public had one thing going for them the right to keep and bear arms and that right is all but a shell of its former existence.

the biggest thing thats wrong here is that the majority of people accept giving up that right and where was the police when someone breaks into your home or tries to rape your wife and daughter and you have no means of protecting yourself by picking up a phone and dialing 911.

people wake up do not let them take a step further support your rights as protected by the second ammendment and tell them you will not yield your rights any further.

As you can probably tell by my writing style, I really could not have put it better if I tried.

A microcosmic strategy similar to the FBI saying something in Sept of 2001 like "let's not stop them from boarding....we want to see what buildings they are planning to fly into.":

I agree that they are using backdoor methods to try to minimize gun availability and drive up prices, but I noticed that the FBI NCIS firearm background checks for 2011 so far are 20% higher than last year. Over 2.7 million through February. I don't think it's working. The more difficult they try to make it, the more guns are being sold.

The ATF has been tracking guns for decades. When you fill out the yellow form for background check they are supposed to be destroyed but they are not. It is clandestine gun registration. Any dealer will ask for ID cause you have to be a state resident in most states. But yeah I don't buy guns anymore from walmart. They made me wait one time for some reason I cannot remember when I had a CCL and that was it. The main reason I got a CCL was to skip the check and hassles but I got one anyway from them so screw them.

they are succeeding like you wouldnt beleive gun control has other forms such as gun price and ammuntion prices

and availability check out gun prices either online or elsewhere and check ammuntion prices.

the majority of people simply can't afford to either shoot or own one and that is buy design.

rules and regulations on a massive level there is no industry in this country that has the regulations that firearms and ammunition has not one.

Isn't Walmart teamed up with the "If you see something, say something" thing, too?

Big Brother, already at a store near you.

i keep hearing about how acts like this are to get public support for gun control, Maybe so, but what this old cogger has seen is more victories for gun owners. Since al gore was defeated [ ya i know he won. but he would have really won big if he wasnt attacked by our patriot organization called [THE NRA] i have seen a reversal of oppinion to favor gun rights.
The government knows a bloodbath would occur if gun rights were to be infringed on to the point of obvious banning, or over restricting.
One bloodbath would occure in my yard when they try to take mine.

Our government likes to cross the line on many issues these [days of the sheeple]. This is one line they better not screw with to much.
Cops are already being shot at alarming rates across the country. DO THEY WANT MORE???? .
