Chavez says capitalism may have ended life on Mars

finance.yahoo.com

"I have always said, heard, that it would not be strange that there had been civilization on Mars, but maybe capitalism arrived there, imperialism arrived and finished off the planet," Chavez said in speech to mark World Water Day.

Chavez, who also holds capitalism responsible for many of the world's problems, warned that water supplies on Earth were drying up.

Headline Number 2: Hugo Chavez is **SNIP** crazy! I know he thinks that capitalism is the devil, but that's a pretty big leap in logic there big guy.

How about we just try to figure out if there ever was sustainable life on Mars before we jump out and condemn "capitalism" for killing it?

Hugo... why are you so defensive hommie? You're proving to the world how socialism works in the rich success of your country... oh, and the stealing of private property to keep your government funded.

I understand how easy a target he is; but really, I doubt this was meant as anything other than a light-hearted jab at his ideological opponents.

What's more important is the very factual reality that the future of potable water is becoming an issue around the world.... But I guess that's off-topic from the OPs point of view.

I like Hugo Chavez.....I think those that don't probably need to watch something outside of the news regarding the information provided about Hugo. Try a documentary and not one that is funded by the GOP. He was a soldier that took command over his dying country. He revived it without the use of western philosophies that do not work. He's human and he makes mistakes but at least hes HUMAN, and hes trying. He's helped his people by letting them stay in his mansion in the event of catastrophies etc. Do you think the White House will open its doors to save your butt? People are so quick to cast judgement on people they know nothing about. It's one of things we need to change about this country.

I am sure some of you will try to blast this comment out of the sky because I said I like Hugo Chavez but I don't care because my mind is open and I am about tolerance even if I am alone.

Just some more grandstanding by our flamboyant Latin American friend, Hugo Chavez. Maybe Capitalism ended Mars, and maybe someday an astronaut will find a rusted out Coca Cola can or a fossilized Big Mac? Perhaps, he has just skipped over reading about the ills of the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, or even China for about the first 30 years after Mao seized power. Millions dead, horrid infrastructure, lack of food and housing, disastrous policy decisions through central planning, and other social misfortunes associated with Socialism/Communism. The government can't do everything for the people. I think the perils of history associated with the two "isms," have made it clear and obvious that in action it does not work.

His people aren't living to well as a result of central planning and social reforms. Perhaps, he should just bite his tongue when being invited to these speaking events, because it seems more often than not his foot ends up in his mouth. Now, I am not saying Capitalism is not without its faults either with all the depressions, currency manipulations, joblessness, and other ills associated with that. However, if I had to pick between the two "isms," it would be Capitalism, because I know personally I would not want some big baby sitter with an iron fist forcing me to this and do that. Just my opinion on what Chavez said.

The only thing more ridiculous than him saying this, is us sitting around discussing it. He might as well have said he had a difficult BM that morning.

The day Chavez can keep his country prosperous without oil and without stealing he will be a good capitalist and an ornament to the global community.

I think you're taking his joke a little bit too seriously OP.

Might have been a low ball, but still just a joke imo.

Seriously? So if I call it "sterilization" is not castration?

"A rose by another name is still a rose"...

The government inherently doesn't "own" anything unless it steals it from PEOPLE.
