Former israeli President Moshe Katsav gets 7 years in jail for rape

www.haaretz.com

Former President of the State of Israel Moshe Katsav was sentenced to seven years in jail Tuesday, for after he had previously been found guilty of rape and other sexual offenses.

The court also ruled that Katsav must also serve two years of probation and pay NIS 100,000 to his rape victim, a former employee of the Tourism Ministry known as A., and to pay NIS 25,000 to L., a former employee of the President's Residence, whom he had sexually harrased and abused.

With all the criticism on Israel I think it comes to show what I great democracy it is, with a great justice system. Even their president is not above the law.

Any other western country would have covered it up or silence it because of embarrassment. Let alone all the political power and friends someone at his position had. But despite the countries interest and his power, no one in Israel is above the law.

I wonder how many other Middle Eastern countries would have done that?

Mind changing your title post to former Israel president? It's kind of misleading if some of us don't know who the current one is.

Cool, I'm glad one of these bastards was put in jail for something. So many politicians and government officials get away with things that they should never have done in the first place, Kudos Israel.

I don't know about the US, but in Italy, Silvio Berlusconi is getting his ass whopped by the people and the media for paying for sex even though he has a family!

Are you actually trying to say that Israel is a great country because their country's former president had SEVERAL charges of sexual misconduct filed against him by his former female staff, but yet, he was sentenced to a mere seven years for rape?

I gave you a flag and a star, but not for your personal view.

Your personal view sounds like a PR agent trying to soften the reality of this.

And then... you compare his sentence to the probabilities of other Middle Eastern countries doing the same, only to declare Israel "great" by using this same faulty comparison?

Your personal viewpoint is loaded with appeals to emotion and your previous statement of "fact" was based upon probabilities.
These are logical fallacies my friend.

He should be in jail for much longer and Israel should be held accountable for war crimes against the Palestinians.
They are not "great", nor are they "democratic".

They certainly want the world to think that they are "great" and "democratic", but the reality of this is far from true.

There are plenty of people operating above the law in Israel, operating above UN resolutions and apparently even their own laws.

I guess it just takes you having to rape the wrong person to actually get in trouble. It's not like soldiers aren't doing the same things and getting away with it all the time, Israeli soldiers in Palestine even US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's a sick and imo racist obsession that these monsters have, no matter what country they are from.

arch-terrorist? what an ignorant remark. You mean as opposed to Hamas or the dictators of the current muslim countries.
try getting ahmadinejad or Bashar assad in jail in their countries and let me know how it goes for you...
