I have seen a similar thing once before not when I was directly looking out a window but I was right next to one with a view of the sky. I swear the whole sky that I could see lit up for a second. Blue in colour not like a sky colour though didn't look natural. It was almost unbelievable because it happened so quickly. I really don't know what could have made that much light. Planes normally fly across here but they are no where close to what I saw.

While my ignorance may be subject to ridicule, I have to admit to scratching my head over this question myself within the past 48 hours.

Night of March 19th, we grilled out & enjoyed a fantastic view of the supermoon big & bright in the eastern skies. Even took pix...next night the 20th, we had rain & cloud cover, so no good views on its closest night, but every so often, it would peek thru & it was still definitely eastward. The following evening, the 21st, hubby & I outside & no sign of the moon anywhere even though well past the hours it had been visible the prior 2 nights. In the wee hours of the AM the same evening, took the pups out for a visit to the bushes & the moon was positioned in the SSW skies, almost 90 degrees from the previous nights...HUH??? Ok, because we''ve had the spring equinox, maybe it had something to do with the axial tilt...

The 22nd, last night took the pups out & the moon is back in the eastern sky...WTF??...I know we didn't just have another equinox, so what gives ??...Looking for an honest opinion as I'm not proficient in higher math or astronomy, but with all the other strange stuff going on, I'd like to try to get a better grasp on this...

Hi OP.
About those flashes to the East of you. I am afraid I am to blame for those. You see I just bought this HUUUUGE refrigerator to keep my stock of cheese in. It has a light inside and when I open the door it comes on. And when I shut the door it goes out. Just recently I haven`t been able to make my mind up as to whether to have Cheddar or Brie. So I open the door and then close it again repeatedly. This causes the light to flash on and off. I didn`t realize you could see it from where you are, but that is what it is allright. Has to be.
I`m just going to reach in and grab some Camembert so look towards the East and see if you can spot the flash. I`ve changed my mind and I`m going to sample the Stilton instead. However, this should not affect the light flashing.
I need crackers though, which is another problem.......

I am in Oklahoma and at this time the moon should be above my house! I
Can't see it anywhere! There are no clouds and nothing is blocking my view! I find it odd that the moon was huge and bright last night and tonight it's gone. It's like it just vanished! Its odd the moon isn't visible!

Also I have a compass in my car and it was going nuts on my way home. Never done it before but it was going crazy! Spinning and everything!

I just saw a huge flash in the sky! I mean huge! No airplanes no helicopters! No search lights. I wonder what it was! And I still cant see the moon. I'm looking right at the horizon! Nothing blocking my view!

Not only can I see the moon, but I can see plenty of stars.. and a farm in the distance.

Seriously. The moon is there, my friend. No need to panic.

Cheers,
Strype

Last night was normal.

The moon's behavior is entirely normal.

Nothing is going on.

Cody

I find it odd how people jump to bewilderment but don't take the time to check anything out. They are so quick to say ooh ah about something. It's always a "mystery", "so strange", "they never seen before". Most people don't look up very much, have little or no clue about astronomy yet they are the ones that start all kinds of nonsense that leads to pages and pages of foolish discussion.
Look up your moon rise time. www.timeanddate.com...

Hills, light, heavy clouds and buildings can effect the time you see the moon in the sky. I've been moon gazing for years and I know well enough by now that the moon never disappears nor does it decide to not pop up one day or arrive late.

picture this, if the moon randomly decided it was going to edit its orbit for a little while the earth would be in havoc! the whole tide system would shake up, causing huge problems everywhere.

Also I would never trust an iphone app to tell me percisely when I should see the moon, nor would I trust one with a compass, regardless of what they claim, anything with iPhone before it I just can't take seriously.

There mite be an 'app' for everything but it doesn't exactly mean its the truth.

Lol. Yes, it is seriously time for some of you to see a shrink, or get a better education. Because all of this moon crap is really getting annoying.
