What vid are you talking of? Got a link?
I`m familiar with the area and the power plant. Interested in seeing the video for that reason.

Ok I see the OP video is from the Ohio River area so I`ll take it it must be that one?
If it is from the power plant it`s like nothing I`ve ever heard it make. But there are many conveyer belts running in that place. Not saying that`s what it is but a possibility one went bad.
They off load coal out of the barges with the one I`m thinking possibly could be it. It has fins on it that grab the coal and pull it up the conveyer.

If you go to this website on the left you will see the coal barge unloading thing in the first picture and think it is getting the last coal out of the barge perhaps. Not that `I`ve ever heard it do that though but do know that`s what they use there for offloading.

www.allor.com...

Something that also hits this area is it is not far from Stratton where the trucker witnessed the UFO and whatever it was going on there.
www.abovetopsecret.com...
The Power plant security guard also is witness to sightings there. Very interesting whatever these happenings are.

I came across this youtube video and I think it's interesting and the sound is similar to the ones people have been hearing...although I don't think this is the cause.

also fast forward to the end to hear it.

This vid is really creepy. I think I would really be unnerved if I were there. The sound totally reminds me of the sound the alien crafts made in War of the Worlds. It was actually posted as a response to that video. www.youtube.com...

Just heard about this on WJR radio 760 a.m. that the Essex County area has a facebook site called Windsor Essex County Hum, and that they are trying to get to the bottom of what is causing it! Many people hearing it and it is consistent...and getting much louder, stronger, regular. I was amazed to hear about this on the MSM radio! wow. Anyone's comments?

It is causing the ground to shake for as long as the sound is happening a sudden flash of light then stops seems to b the general consensus
most recent reports hail from : San Diego, LA, West VA, Florida, New York/New Jersey, Canada, UK,
iv found one theory that is worth investigating 8.9 Richter scale earthquake rocked Tokyo resulting in a tsunami causing incredible amounts of damage and deaths
My first reaction was to check the University of Tokyo's HAARP induction magnetometer to see if HAARP was fired up around the time of the quake.
Sure enough, following a week of electromagnetic silence HAARP was turned on at approximately 0:00 hours 9 March 2011 UTC and has been going strong since

I live in Casselberry, Florida near Orlando. Around 3 a.m. this morning August 26th I was in and out of sleep when I heard what I thought was a landing airplane, being near the airport and half asleep I dozed back off. I popped back out of sleep a few minutes later and heard the same noise, upon looking at the clock it was 7 minutes later. I went onto my patio and heard how loud it actually was. I realized it was in no way a landing airplane. I woke up my Mother and made her come listin, I was kind of scared. She was equally freaked out. We stood out on our portch and it went on until 3:16am then just stopped, like a snap of a finger. Living near the spacecoast I would almost describe it very much the same as the sound of a rocket launch on a clear evening but much louder much more constant and much closer. I've been looking online all day to find someone who heard what we did to no avail. Although found many posts describing the same sound and even one video that displayed it perfectly. I saw no flashing lights, but I can say I felt fear. My Mom is convinced it's a "natural phenomena", I'm not so convinced. Can anyone tell me what the hell it was?

I've heard this "rumbling" noise twice now. Both times were at around 2 or 3 O'clock in the morning. The first time I heard it I didn't think much of it because I thought it was just a plane. I only remembered it though because it didn't sound like most planes. It was a very low rumbling noise that stayed for about minute (like it was hovering), before it faded a little then suddenly stopped. That was about 2 months ago.

The second time I heard it was actually last week. I was laying in bed, the only thing on was the air conditioner, and this low rumbling noise started. Then it got louder (like how a plane starts low, then it gets louder, then it fades out as it passes) but this didn't do it. It started faint, then got louder and stayed that way. Even louder than the first time when I heard it. I was actually afraid this time because we've been having some really bad storms lately (I live near Chicago, Illinois) so I thought I was hearing a tornado. I've heard how some people describe tornadoes like a really loud plane or a train. But the noise was constant. It never faded. I finally got up to see if I could see anything but I couldn't see anything besides my neighbors house and all the trees. And I didn't see anything above either. It stayed like this for a good 2 minutes before it finally stopped. It didn't fade, it just stopped!

I have no idea what any of this could be. I tried playing it off as "maybe it was just a plane" *shrugs* (though it honestly didn't sound like it. It's very hard to describe) but then I found this thread and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has heard it. My husband even works third shift so I thought maybe he might have heard something but he said he never did. So (with this thread) I know I'm not going crazy hearing things.
He's tried figuring it out what it could have been, like a helicopter but I know what a helicopter sounds like and it wasn't one.

Good job my friend! I see you've added all the way back to 2000.

What do you think of the Taos Hum phenomenon? Is it worthy of being added to this list?

Right! If you look far back enough, it goes back to the 90's, only it was sporatic then.....now it has gotten to be almost daily reports.

I've been hearing some unusual sounds too. I searched around the web hoping to find some similar sounds, but nothing similar yet...

It happens once and maybe twice a day. Not always at the same hour. It seems to have started a few months ago but I can't remember precisely when... (or when I started to pay attention on it)
I first assumed it was some town alarm tests, without paying much attention to it, but after a few days, it still continued... and since alarm tests occurs only 2-3 times a year, I had to admit it was something else... Paying more attention to that audio anomaly, I noticed that it just couldn't be the town alarm like I first assumed... The sound is relatively loud, and goes high and low in tone, just like an alarm would do, but the problem is... 1) Alarms are louder 2) alarms doesn't speedup/down regulary as this strange noise does, 3) sometimes, there is more than 1 same-type of sound in the same time... always seeming to come from the same direction the more I noticed was 3.
That sound could also sound like a plane (or an object) that falls relatively quickly, then goes up slowly, then fall again, and again...
Each "sound concert" lasts for 10-20 minutes. I'll try to record it within the next days, but i'm trying to get a better recorder than a smartphone to do so.
I wouldn't pay any attention to that sound if I were living in a big city, but i'm in a fully rural zone... a few little towns (1000-3000 citizens each) separated by 3-5km from each others...
No airport anywhere near, no military base, no highway... Nothing anywhere around that could produce a such sound. We have a few power stations, but they're dams on rivers, so I don't think a power station is the cause...

I tried to "follow" the source, but this does not seem to lead anywhere... It's quite weird since the sound seems to come from one unique direction, but I can't identify accurately that direction...

Also, when talking about that sound with local friends, they've heard it too from their home, but never paid attention to it... "Do you know what this sound could be ?" "Dunno, Never asked myself..."

Has anyone experienced a sound that matches that description recently ? or better... has anyone an idea of what could cause that ?
I'm almost sure it's something completely earthly and natural, but I can't figure out what could be the source of that sound.

If I don't find a similar sound somewhere on the web, I will post it in this thread in a few days as soon as I find a decent audio recorder.

Yes they sound similar at first, but when you compare the two the first one sounds like a faster cycle than the second.

However, they both sound the same in terms of pitch.

So far all of the sounds recorded in the UK seem to have the same pitch.

Edit: I was wrong. The second clip is from Ohio, not UK. So they do sound the same. But when you compare these sounds to the ones recorded in Florida, you don't hear the same wobbly ups and downs. Infact, the second video is 2 years old.

The Taos Hum has had a lot of 'coverage'. The video of it on You Tube can only be heard if you're using a headset.

And to compare the taos to the videos mentioned above, the taos sounds a lot higher in pitch and kind of annoying to listen to.

Oh and of course it has its own Wikipedia page
But I haven't' come across any updates from there as far as whether this sound is still continuing or not.

Just wanted to toss in a comment because this has been the most fascinating phenomenon to me, ever since it was introduced to ATS when the "Florida Rumble" made it's rounds back in March of 2011. I suppose it's actually been happening for some time before then in some places, though.

Credit due to everyone who has compiled lists of locations and dates relating to this event (indisputable, nice job), or have found related videos... Obviously this is still unexplained for the most part, and from one occurrence to the next there are similiarities, yet at the same time they differ in audible characteristics from one recording to the next. Very mysterious, and like everyone else I have wondered what the heck has been the cause of it.

During the months of March and April I began collecting a list of local news reports that seemed to be related to these events (the reports within would describe the common traits such as 'unable to locate direction of source', or 'sound would abruptly end'), but the local reporters would all seem to come to silly conclusions like "Jets may create extra noise", or "Mysterious sound heard by hundreds might have been a (2.5) earthquake".

Fourth line in the name of keeping this thread (and the search for the cause of this mystery) alive.
