Radiation has arrived in Southern California

Thursday Jan 9, 2014 Radiation level in my yard spiked several times up over 72 CPM and in Tierrasanta the high today was 91 CPM. Shocked because it is usually around 17-28 CPM in Escondido (took reading this weekend). Went to Carlsbad Beach where the highest reading was 38 CPM atop of some dried seaweed. Need to have someone collaberate with someone locally to confirm my readings. I would really wish that my meter was malfunctioning. (how i wish...) Doea anyone know of any material other than lead panels that provides so protection or shielding from this fallout. Note: readings inside my home while taking a shower topped out at 68 CPM when just last week they were no higher than 28 CPM.
My meter is a GQ 300-E Geiger Muller Counter
