I've just been replying to a post in RATS and it made me ask a question... A bit of an interesting question if you're that way inclined.. a bit of number crunching perhaps, for those who can do so.. It's a task way above my abilities

My question was.. How long would it take one person to read every thread, every post, every video on ATS from the beginning to this current date (leaving out having to read links to external sites).

a lifetime? four years?

Would be interesting to get an idea just how much info there is here on ATS.. we've got the sites stats regarding how many posts/threads etc.. but how long to go through it all?

It would be like one of those stats that says you'd need 15 million pennies stacked on top of each other to reach to the moon.. or all your blod vessels and veins would stretch around the world three times.. for example

Any ideas???

I'd say it's impossible as you would probably end up blowing your brains out 3% of the way through.

Trying to filter through the garbage would take at least a decade alone..

Could it be impossible?
Would you die of natural causes in your 90's before you completed it all?

Or could you have it all done in a couple of years?

some people read faster than others... so we'd have to get an average speed

Yes it's impossible. Here's the graph : For every 10 threads you read, another 20 are added. - Plus you need to re-read everything all over again to check for new posts.

Talking about re-reading everything... try re-reading my first post..

hold on, i'll save you a few minutes

I'll copy and paste the bit that doesn't make it impossible

from the beginning to this current date

So assume that every thread has been put on hold in order for this task to be carried out

OK, I'd say it's entirely possible then. Go ahead, lock yourself away and start reading and give my head peace.

There are 10,710,436 posts (according to site stats).
assuming an average of 200 words per post.
assuming 300 wpm reading speed.
it will take just over 7140290 minutes.
that is 13 years 210 days 22hours and 26 minutes of nonstop reading and I would say its safe to assume the vids will take at least another decade or two.

I'd be clocking up to being about 70 by that time then
including the videos that is...

Incredible when you think about it.. a mine of information.. you'd never stop learning.

someone once said to me 'nobody can spend their life studying, you gotta get a job.'. lol..

think I'd rather read ATS
