messenger finally got into mercury's orbit. nasa had completed their goal sending messenger into the orbit of mercury. read more information to see. good job for messenger. messenger will provide scientist with data on mercury while on orbit.

I only commented to say that there are already highly advanced space operations on this planet. You have to dig a little, but NASA is merely a front to keep the public occupied. Moon Rising is a nice video that mentions 'space elevators' and there are independent institutes exposing active industrial sites on Mars.* There's much more out there, do some independent research, use your imagination and you can most certainly bank on it.

He did a good job describing an all too common mindset on these forums, in which "independent research" and "imagination" are synonymous.

Why can't some people just be happy at achievements in reality? Just because something isn't as grand as a scenario you can imagine doesn't make it any less meaningful. I can imagine something, the day we land men and women on mars, and on that day it's going to be an amazing accomplishment for humanity. I just feel a little sad for the inevitable amount of people who won't take any pride or enjoyment at such an accomplishment because they "believe" we've already been exploring our galaxy for many decades.

Studying Mercury has much further and wider implications than just that planet's physics & geology! I hear there is an argument regarding the whole black hole theory hanging in the balance of unanswered questions relating to Mercury.
