Bahrain is different. People who view what is happening in all the countries experiencing unrest as the same are not paying attention.

In Bahrain it's the Shia who want an even more restrictive Theocracy, not Freedom from oppression by an insane brutal Dictator.

Look how the Day of Rage backfired due to people not understanding. When those who wanted freedom found out the Shiites were taking over to protest for a Theocracy and tougher Sharia Law, they stayed home.

There is always a back-story to these things. Heck, I even saw people so uninformed they compared the overpaid Teachers protesting to those wanting basic Freedoms. Talk about a slap in the face to those living in these Dictatorships. I think it was more a case of illiteracy than anything though.

Sorry, but that is not happening and I think you have been believing too many posts by bigoted American Haters. They would need reason to believe you were a real threat. I'm sure the other Canadians who cross every day would not agree with you.

If your so foolish as to not do as you want because you are boycotting getting a Passport, it's self-inflicted. If you have a Passport and no criminal record, you are just trolling to bash Americans due to some kind of hate.

Me, I tire of American Haters telling these lies to an International audience who believe the falsehoods. The only people who have problems bring the problems on themselves.

I'm sure we can find a lot of back stories in each revolution. I'm sure there are some not so pretty back stories in the American and French revolutions. My point is that it is up to the people of those countries to choose their paths and that the western or European/American governments should stay out.

Egyptians rose up and took down the government, now they have a military dictatorship. Maybe there will be elections, maybe not. Would you propose taking action against the current military regime if they choose not to hold elections? The people revolted and that is the path they chose.

In Bahrain they are beating doctors in a government hospital! But, hey, I'm sure you're right that it's those evil Theocrats who are stirring up the trouble. Thank goodness the Saudi's sent troops in to help "restore order."

Again I say, "Freedom can not be given but must be earned."

So I cannot be detained for life without even a phone call? I am bashing no body but I speak the truth here.
Sure as you like to repeat constantly " people travel over the boarder all the time" what a simple statement that is......how about sure the sun rises everyday?
Did you not read in one of my earlier posts on this thread that we have many American friends.
Take off the blinders and answer my question...... can I be detained for life for no reason by the US customs?
Regards, Iwinder

I get your point. I'm not really inclined to disagree. It's just hard to watch people who only want Freedom being slaughtered by an overpowering force, against which they have no chance. To say they lost is not premature.

Qaddafi is the personification of evil. No different that Benjamin Netanyahu, or George the Bushes.
They represent the established powers that will do anything to keep themselves in power. Anything at all, the world be damned.
None of us have to agree with everything the rebels believe. Hell, we don't agree with each other on everything. The fact is, though, that they are willing to fight and die for a better life, and Ghaddafi has to bring in people that will fight and risk death for a paycheck.
Big difference.

Why is everyone so down on Qaddafi. Libya belongs to him. He needs to hurry up and slap down those knot heads so he can turn the oil spigot back on. It is not any of our business how others run their countries.. Contrary to popular belief you are not your bother's keeper. We sure do not want some other country/organization coming into the US to tell us how to run our country (such as some UN idiot).. Look how we lost great Cuban items when we got our nose out of joint over Castro. We may still be the world police but we need to pick the battles that are win win.

DO you not remember the revolution? The U.S. wouldn't even be here for you say that if France hadn't helped us out in the revolution. You would be bowing to Queen Elizabeth right now.

I'm not saying police the world. I'm saying that when a dictator is literally attacking his own people, when they only want a better government someone needs to help them.

But I bet you don't care as long as he turns his oil spigot back on.

A NFZ is not a quick-fix solution and it does not mean victory for the rebels at all, not even close. Personally I wouldn't support a NFZ without additional support. I don’t think that it would help an awful lot. I believe that its effect would be predominantly psychological/political, as Gaddafi's air force (what is left of it) has seen only limited use and it is his ground forces that are making all of the gains.

Suppressing Gaddafi’s air defences is a necessity and I wouldn’t put it past him to have these placed in civilian-heavy areas or near facilities such as hospitals or schools. Civilian casualties are very likely in any case and Gaddafi does not need to be gifted with a propaganda coup for the almost negligible benefits (in my opinion) that a NFZ would offer.

The rebels do not need a NFZ, if not overt military support they require training, organisation and arms, all of which can be provided covertly and at least some of which may have been provided already. The international community may be undecided but certain countries most definitely aren’t.

Unfortunately I can see it getting extremely ugly these next few days, but the opposition isn’t simply going to evaporate after all they have accomplished so far. By the way, the US and Germany have stopped their dithering and are now joining UK/France on supporting a resolution which would permit air strikes against Gaddafi’s ground forces as well as a NFZ. The voting on this resolution will probably take place later today. They must convince China/Russia to abstain, though.
