For those that don't know him, Jim Berkland is the geologist that successfully predicted the 1989 World Series earthquake (in fact he lost his job with the USGS for making his prediction). His methods are based on the lunar effects on the tides and observing where fish and mammals start dieing off.

His claim is that the next big earthquake along the ring of fire will be this weekend. He was just interviewed on FOX News (March 15th, 2011) and here is that interview segment

Sign of California Quake to Come?

*edit to add*
Just found a youtube video of the same interview..

This thread was started on this same prediction/prophecy forum last summer and the OP clearly says that a major seismic event on the west coast/ca will happen no later than the spring of 2011 which coincides with Berkland's prediction:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

There are also links from other psychics who foress a major seismic event happening on the west coast this year as well.

So even if we get past this month without incident, there are a lot of psychics pointing to 2011 regardless.

It's due. And it fits in with the other three big quakes around the ring of fire. Get ready? I'd say so.

I've been saying this for quite a while here on ATS...

I have posted on it several times, and just recently posted right after the Japan quake, BEFORE Berkland's interviews hit the airwaves. In my post, I show, what I believe, are a few observations of the same behavior that Mr. Berkland has spoken about... dead bees, dead fish, strange pet behavior, magnetic field anomalies, solar flares, tidal forces, etc.... and these have all been just in the last week.

I firmly believe he is on to something, and he himself said that being able to "predict" quakes is not an exact science, but that there is roughly 12 or so factors that if you are aware of, you can see those changes align on certain dates that greatly increase the possibility of quakes in a given period of time.

Mr. Berkland was also on the Michael Savage radio show... in it, he said that animals and humans have magnetite in their bodies, and it is highly magnetic. He goes on to explain that in humans, this magnetite is store above the pineal gland, which is why some people get headaches and pressure in the center of their heads right before a quake, because of the changes in the magnetic field. It COULD also explain why some people who are not clairvoyant sometimes have visions or powerful dreams before a major quake.

With animals, however, they use this magnetite in a different way. For them, it is used as a type of compass for navigation. According to Mr. Berkland, the period leading up to a quake, there is enormous pressure in the plates which causes the magnetite to give off strong magnetic fields. It is these disturbances that cause animals to "loose their way" or become scared and confused. An interesting FACT that he presented was the documented missing animals within a 7-10 period before a major quake.

These findings are hard to ignore... I never equated the magnetite relationship like he did, which I found to be fascinating, but I posted several times that I felt it (magnetic field changes) was related to the fish and bee deaths.

S&F Mr. Anonymous!

I hope this raises awareness for people that we are not above nature, but rather simply part of it.

The west coast is certainly due for another major earthquake... it's been, what, 17 years since Northridge? It would also make sense that it would coincide with so massive tidal changes due to the equinox and the moon being so close to the earth. I'm not going to speculate on whether or not this guy is a crackpot, but he did make some pretty decent points.

All in all, I'm just glad that I live in Central California, far enough away from the major fault lines to be in any immediate danger. In theory anyway; though I suppose something could happen along the Sierra Nevada fault, or the San Andreas when it runs along the eastern side of the coastal mountains.

You are in much better shape in Central California.

However, I wouldn't get too comfortable.

In 1650 the entire Valley was flooded. If we had a huge Tsunami?

Here is a link to a 1650 California map.

Haven't seen this topic cited in this thread yet.

I ran the thing this morning. Next alignment is 25 March. So, this guy could be onto something big.

Does anyone here have the ability to cross reference the moon/alignments using the linked thread above?

Here is another of Mexico which also shows Cali divided by water.... I have to wonder where it came from and how accurate it was at the time....

Also, what event caused the land to rise and the water to flow back in to the ocean??? Does anyone know?

Hi There, I picked up on your comment on how things happend prior to that earthquake. There is a thread on here were an ATS member was asking if people on the West Coast were feeling sick. Here is the thread. Just thought i would bring this into this thread. I hope i sign into ATS at the weekend and find that this is a non event. Good luck and be safe to all.

How bold and novel! An earthquake on the west coast. They get pretty much daily small earthquakes that go unnoticed by most people. More fear-mongering, but I'm sure Jim Berkland's bank account will be the only thing rocking that day.

I think it is safe to say, we are all a little earthquake hyper aware right now. (Could I type a bigger DUH! statement? )

That being said, I hope this doesn't come true, my Nana lives in San Jose

That's indeed a very good point. Though if my memory serves me well from my California History classes, the Valley was flooded sometime during the mid 1800s. I'm certainly not getting very comfortable, but it would also take a fairly massive tsunami in order to hit this far inland, even if it were to overflow the San Luis Reservoir.

But if it did happen, the economic impact would be massive, and there would be a huge hit on food prices, as this area supplies more dairy products than anywhere else in the world, not to mention all of the other crops like tomatoes, pistachios, oranges, lemons, almonds, strawberries, and a whole host of other crops.

that map is quite accurate, the california you see there is not the "american california" but BAJA CALIFORNIA a mexican state, the size of it is a little off but keeping in mind its a map from the 17th century makes sense. no event caused the land to rise. its a different california

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I worked in as hospital ER in the '80's. The New England Journal of Medicine had actually combined data on presenting symptoms (the reason people came in) and they found correlations between eight or ten atmospheric phenomena ( barometric pressure, humidity, moon phase, etc.). When these conditions are in certain combinations they influenced the prevalence of heart attack, stroke, MVA's, etc.

I don't doubt this gentleman's observations for a moment!

In response to your question, the water in the Central Valley was drained/guided by a complex system of levies. These levies are earthen, very old, and now very unstable. I lived in Manteca CA for a decade or two, and it was a topic of discussion then, If water comes in with the force of a tsunami, it would run up rivers like the Sacramento, and destroy those levies. Hence, inland flooding. I lived immediately behind a levy, and remember vividly when we had flooding of the river, going up on the levy and watching it drop away in pieces. The govt actually enlisted the public to report these, and they were running fast to keep up. Oh yeah, the river at that time rose to about 30 feet above my roof. I now live in Tennessee.

If a big earthquake hits of the coast, those levies will liquify and let the valley flood again.

Yes...this guy is on to something...so whether you believe in psychics, biblical apocalypse, the Mayan calendar, or prophets, the bottom line is this and all scientists agree: the earth goes through cycles of changes. It is the earth's way of building itself. The earth is so many years old that we (in our tiny little life spans) cannot even fathom that many years since we (as humans) have been around such a tiny amount of time in comparison. All we can do is study these cycles by digging down and seeing the different sediments in the earth which show when and where major earthquakes have happened and at what interval.

Every Discovery Channel, Science Channel, or PBS Documentary I have ever watched on earthquakes or volcanoes have all scientists agreeing that we are actually long overdue a "Big One". It is just part of the cycle of earth building that happens and they don't know for sure. And when they (being scientists) don't know 100% for sure they keep their mouths shut, even when they think they may be on to something.

The simple fact is that since they don't know 100% sure, they aren't sure if a big quake on the west coast will awaken the Yellowstone volcano (also overdue) or start a chain reaction with the New Madrid fault. So even if they had a good idea of when the "Big One" will hit here, they could not give us warning. Where would they tell us to evacuate to? They don't know. No scientist wants to be the guy who causes mass chaos and panic and tell people to run for a certain area for safety and be wrong.

So, the only thing they do tell us is that there is one coming at some point, that we are overdue one, and to prepare in the best way that we can: i.e. stock up on food, water, make plans of a meeting point with family, have a battery-powered radio on hand, flashlights, batteries etc.

I listen when Jim Berkland speaks, I also hope he is wrong. I have followed his work since the early nineties, wasn't aware of him when I went through the Loma Prieta Quake in 89, but do remember how strange my little dog was acting preceding the quake.

I remember his first interview with Art Bell and him talking about losing his job and why.

I am praying that he is wrong the West Coast is spared.
