I've seen nothing out of Obama that I haven't seen out of every single POTUS for the entirety of my adult life.

One of the "best" endorsements of obama's "hope and change" campaign mantras I've seen lately.

A nice change. Since it's a job that's going to get pretty lonely and much harder to accomplish in the next 2 years IMO.

I don't understand why his travel is a problem, did I miss the part where it was the US suffering these tragedies? He is off on US business, drumming up buyers for our exports is official US business and I don't have a problem with that. If this situation occurred in California or some other state I may have a different opinion, but because one nation is facing great hardship does not mean our country stops.

he's probably out setting up new free trade agreements....exactly what we need!!

I find this interesting when someone mentioned a post bout people taking advantage of the crisis in Japan. Right now their industry just got shattered and someone posted a comment that mentioned using this as an opportunity to see our way our of out debt by taking up some of Japans industrial slack.

I told a friend this morning that the reconstruction effort and the US "taking up slack" will boost us out of the slump at the same time we rebuild Japan.

Young people who now dominate ATS do not understand the "zero-sum-game" that this presents. It was a world war mobilization that pulled the US out of the Great Depression, the rebuilding of Europe that ended their empire building across Africa and Asia, and the "race to the moon" (which half of them do not believe or remember) that fueled the technology explosion.

Who will build and sell the Toyotas, Hondas and semiconductors now? Who will produce the steel, aluminum and concrete to reconstruct entire towns? Who will step up production of natural gas to replace the Middle East resources torn asunder during revolution and suppression of rebels? This is an opportunity that SCREAMS to be jumped on for everyone's benefit.

The biggest downside is that a recovering economy will see Obama win another four years from the same idiots criticizing this effort. Too bad; but re-blooming capitalism may effectively neutralize his socialist/Marxist agenda.

How is the President of the United States supposed to help Japan from Washington? He can do exactly the same thing from Brasil as he can do from Washington. It is 2011 and we can communicate in real time from anywhere. His orders still count of he isn't on domestic soil. We are talking about a Japanese disaster, not an American one. If you want to pick on TPOTUS, you can find much better arguments.

That is rather misleading advice because it simply brings up every single thread that I have posted in that has Obama in the title, or where I used the term "Obama". I've actually taken your advice and read the first 3 pages... so far the only Obama specific commentary, by me, is that I don't buy into the birther concept.

But, please, feel free to actually hunt through that mess and find any posts where I cheer lead for Obama and I'll be happy to address them.

BTW searching your member name with "Obama" also yields a mountain of results.

What do you expect him to do? America sent all the help Japan is going to need, they basically need a few warm bodies and some gear. The Japanese are among the best qualified to deal with that sort of thing.
