You know, with everything going on I didn't think my emotional state could get much worse, until I read this article.

www.armytimes.com...

So the soldiers will be expected to continue to be willing to give up their lives for a government who has no intention of taking care of them or their families while they are doing so?
Disgusting, just plain disgusting!

First off, it is BS.
Military funding is from different pockets, so to speak.
This is a scare tactic in several ways.
1. It is an attempt by the left to scare those military members and families into thinking that they have their best interests in mind and that if the Evil right has their way, no more paycheck.
2. It is an attempt by the right to scare those same people that support the left into thinking that if the left has their way, no more paycheck.
3. Military funding will not stop. There has been and will be emergency orders in Congress to fund essentials, like the Military, on a shoe string budget.

Shame on both sides.

My husband is retired military, and now holds a position as a "non essential government worker" for the Army, who stands to be furloughed in the event this all comes to fruition. I can guarantee you, it is indeed not what he signed up for.
We as a family, have made sacrifices for the military, and we did not do so under the guise that we would do so for nothing. Being willing to serve and protect your nation is one thing, and a noble thing at that, but to be expected to do so with zero money to eat, or to provide your family with shelter is another thing all together.

I was under the impression that a Federal Government shutdown allowed certain critical departments to continue (Military / NRC / Social security office etc).

I was also under the impression that the DoD budget was from the previous years budget.

To you and the other nay-sayers, I would like to point out that the OP's source is the Army Times, which in conjunction with a separate news source; Stars and Stripes, are the two main news agencies that represent the Army....The Army Times are not known for spreading blatantly false information, nor baseless claims - aside from the normal government propaganda.

This is one of two sources for information that is provided free to troops abroad and in combat, somehow methinks they would not print something that is not a potentiality.

The US gov't has for decades proven it is entirely unwilling to take care of military personnel. Once a soldier, marine, etc has gone beyond the ability to serve, the gov't throws them away. This has been going on since at least the Vietnam era.

Anybody considering joining the military needs to keep this in mind - that you will be used dishonorably then discarded when you come to be a burden.

Here is the same story, but different source: Air Force Times

I'm assuming that if the government did shut down, then the troops would receive back-pay once the government is running again. If that is not the case, then I would simply lay down my arms and quit....even if it meant finding my own ride home. I realize the troops signed a contract, however, a legitimate contract requires consideration (i.e., something of value is given by both parties). If the government can't pay, then they are in breach of contract.

When the money runs out....

Non essential items will be cut from the military budget like the VA, pensions, PX privileges, cheap base housing etc.

But don't worry all the military contractors like Blackwater, Bectel, KBR and high tec wepon manufactures like Lockheed and Boeing, will still get paid. Priorities you know....

I am active duty USAF and this is 100% REAL... As for us being neglected, that isn't true. We still will recieve free medical care and housing if we live in military housing. We WILL RECIEVE BACK PAY! That is 100% guaranteed.

Back in the day (1996) the government DID shut down. We still got paid.

These scare tactics are oft' used when trying to pass bills filled with pork.

No worry.

Actually, they (PMC Companies) as a whole have just made a cut back in pay to their PMCs worldwide.
Pay cut around $20-$60 a day, I believe.

The contracts have as a whole, all been renewed within the last several months. The contracts that the companies hold will be honored by the US Fed Govt, and those contracts are usually paid out 4, 6 or 12 months after the start of the contract, or at the end/completion.

Ain't gonna happen. You will get paid, as the pay is from the military budget, which will get rolled into the essential spending resolution.
