Let's Create the Ultimate 2012 Survival List!

IMO I don't think you can prepare for everything...and I think it's going to be more of a "use your wits and be very attuned to your gut" kind of thing. Be prepared to move and move fast.
For myself and my family we have a nice relatively new crossover type vehicle so it's big enough for the three of us and our supplies, yet small enough to be very manuverable. I have enough canned and dry goods to last us a month and other things handy so that we could leave very quickly. I even have stuff for our cat because she would go with us!
Things that are going with us include the aforementioned food, cat supplies and hubby's medicines (we have a month ahead supply of that), clothes, gun and bullets, lockbox with all important papers, small amount of gold, silver and cash (don't know how good that cash will be though!), pillows, blankets, first aid supplies, binoculars, and maps. Other stuff that I can't recall offhand....

Although I want my family to survive, there is a part of me that realises that this may not be possible. I figure that regardless, we have all chosen to be here at this time to witness this change.

Is their anything to prepare for? I'd only do all that stuff if something bad was predicted to happen.

All scenarios you say? An RV for all scenarios? Hope you're ready to surrender all that to the military, gangs, or salvation hungry humans. And good luck maneuvering that through tightly packed road ways with abandoned vehicles. Unless you're hoping to leave in advance of a SHTF scenario, have a few possible places in mind, and are lucky enough to get that advanced warning sign. For me...

My Starfire Steel Sword... Check (holds the power)
My Wife... Check (holds the love)

Want to survive? Learn about nature, ecosystems, the environment, wildlife, forestry, etc... and you will live. Look towards technology for survival and you shall fail, like the world is beginning to fail now.

Ever heard of "highwaymen?" The roads will be a dangerous place to travel when SFTF. It might be better to either bug out early or dig in. Those planning an ambush have the edge - even if you are in an armored vehicle as they can disable it so you cant drive away and you are a sitting duck.

No, you cant prepare for everything....First, prepare only for likely scenarios and contingencies in your area. Second, focus on food, water, medicine and barter items (practical not necessarily gold and silver but they could be bought to convert into real goods later just before the SHTF if you want to try to time it). Third, cultivate your mind and emotions to be survival savy (to be survival conscious and able to live by your wits and off the land if necessary and to be able to act decisively without panicking). Fourth, practice prayer (it will help with #3).

The LDS church sells canned food for food storage, because they command all their members to have 2 years worth of food supply for their family. They claim to sell it for the price they buy it at so they don't make a profit. They let nonmembers buy their food if they will work in the cannery for a day. I'm not LDS nor am I particularly sympathetic to their belief system, but LDS canneries are a good way to get massive amounts of food storage for almost nothing...

You sound very prepared! Your plans are similar to mine... The only thing I would suggest in addition to what you already have would be a bulletproof vehicle with nuclear insulation, to prepare for conventional war or nuclear war, which I believe to be just as likely as natural disasters. Also, you might want to convert your engine to run off hydrogen so that you won't need gas. Gasoline will be almost impossible to find when SHTF.

Something bad IS predicted to happen. You have a lot of research to do... If you look on the 2012 threads of ATS, you will find tons of info and predictions. You will also find a bunch of people who will do anything to get you not to believe in it... You have to wonder why those people waste their time on the 2012 threads. I guess its to boost their egos by saying things like "I'm so scientific that I'm better than all you fear-mongering primitive beings."

Yep. I'm planning to leave in advance. I've been planning for quite a few years. I'm sorry, but its very unlikely that you can win against someone with greater technology than you. It reminds me of the Boxer Rebellion in China. They thought they were impervious to bullets and tried to get their country 'back to nature' and drive out the westerners using only martial arts. They failed miserably. There were lots of other incidents like that in history. You're right that it is important to learn about forestry, because there's a chance of a magnetic field reversal or an EMP, but there's also a chance there won't be one and in that case, people with guns will kill those who only have swords. Actually, EMPs and MFRs don't even affect guns... So you are basically guaranteed a battle with people who have guns. Unless you go to a country where there are strict gun laws, but then you'll have to face criminals and the government, which is a lot worse than just regular people!

I'll be bugging out early. The roads will be dangerous. That's why it will be an offroad capable vehicle, designed specifically so that no one can just disable it. Our base will be on an island in a lake, and we will only leave the island when we are ready to get involved in whatever's happening.

Oh come on, there's a lot to be excited about! I don't blame you. In 2012, their true nature will be revealed, and we will know who the enemy really is and how bad they are. Right now, we can't justify anything because we don't know anything. But in 2012, something is going to happen that changes everything, and it just might bring an opportunity.

There are ways to win a war even when you are outnumbered and out-technologied. You could infiltrate them, evade them, have your nerdy geniuses hack into their systems, trick them into doing something stupid...etcetera.

Who wins the victory really comes down to two factors; who's smarter and who has the most passion. Brainwashed peeps don't have much passion, determination, or intelligence, and generally, rebels are smarter than authority-supporters because its pretty dumb just to play along and go with the flow. Those at the very top might be smart, but...all they care about is their personal gain, and there are a lot of ways to manipulate that desire.

I'm trying to choose an area that has a minimum of likely contingencies. I think my emotions will be okay, because I have no family members that I'm attached to and I don't panic because disasters fascinate me and I see them from an outside perspective, though it is very sad when people die. We will have a lot of food, perhaps two years, and some stored water in addition to water filters. I don't know about the prayer part... I'm kind of agnostic. But thanks for the advice!

As for what to prepare for, you can't prepare for everything, but you can prepare for everything imaginable. There is a quantifiable amount of scenarios for disaster. It could be nuclear, biological, chemical, earthquake or volcano based, climate change leading to food shortages and civil unrest, warfare and terrorism related, EMP, or Magnetic field reversal. Those are the things I'm anticipating. If you think of any more, tell me.

Nope. . I didn't give up, and I never will. If I disappear for a long time, that probably means I've been caught...by my parents, or NWO government conspirators, or something... In that case, someone else will be in charge temporarily. Its all arranged so that we don't give up under any circumstance. If I disappear for a short time, that just means I'm overwhelmed with recruiting, which is what I've been doing for the past few weeks. If you are, by chance, interested, just email me. People should have survival and emergency provisions at all times. Regardless of what the media agenda and the general current SHTF scenario is.

A few years ago I started having major gut wrenching feelings to "prepare". Then I discovered ATS and started reading and learning more about the world we live in...and got even more motivated, lol. I learned how to shop and get food almost for free using coupon shopping. And I started stocking our emergency supplies. I did a lot in a relatively short period of time and not a moment too soon.

The company that I was working for, dissolved, and we were up to our eyeballs in debt at the time. We lived on our emergency supplies for almost 2 years while we worked on simplifying our life and paying off our debt. We never would have made it if it hadn't been for the well stocked supplies.

I have mellowed out a lot since then, but I am a firm believer now in being prepared. Regardless of the possibility of the world ending tomorrow, you just never know what may happen to you. Why leave yourself out in the open with your pants down?

I think it is supposed to be something much deeper than that. The city was one of the most important major centers of the continent because of its being the gateway to North America, but myself and another scholar have other theories that are being researched presently.

Would you consider yourself to be a religious person? I myself, believe the bible was made up during a period of history as a guideline and history text to explain to a generation in terms that they could understand why things did and will happen.

I believe that God may exist, but that doesn't automatically make him and his ideals right. I have a complex theory about how he was once a human but evolved to be able to do anything... My mom's religion--LDS--believes that he lives on a planet called Kolob. It sounds straight out of a science fiction movie, I know, but it was thought up in the late 1700's, I think. To tell you the truth, I have no idea about religion. Do you?

Don't forget to add a laptop to that list!
