I really hope this thread is wrong. Those poor people can't endure another big one so soon. Also I still want to go live in Japan for a while someday!

I understand your concern for the Japanese people, but to say that they are all good people is naive and insulting, actually.

I was robbed of $10,000 from a friend who was a Japanese "businessman" so I can assure you that not everyone there is good. They are just people, like you and me.

Please don't put them on a pedestal. Let's just help them, okay?

Just noticing something, when you go down the list of eq's for the last few days, that it has been almost constant aftershocks in that region. However, there has not been anything...at all, in the last couple of hours. Shouldn't that whole region still be rocking?

There was an hour and a half long break earlier, but until that break, it was very constant. But it has basically stopped since that last, very southern 5.5 that I posted earlier.

For the experts around here, is this normal to see such a decrease in activity this soon after an eq of this magnitude? Thanks in advance.

That whole area is indeed still active, with quakes coming in constantly. Problem is, the USGS is only reporting those with magnitudes 4.5 or greater. Please let that sink in. I have been watching this pretty much non stop in GEE, and they just keep on coming, one after the other, with very few breaks. You are only seeing a portion of them, but the place is literally on fire with non stop quakes.

Which is why I decided to put the GEE tips thread back in my signature. Those interested, please read. It will save us all a lot of needless posting on the matter.

lol, no need to take it that way, my friend, that's not how I meant it, I promise. Sorry if it sounded that way.

But it is true that had you been running GEE and watching IU.MAJO and JP.JHJ2 stations, you would be seeing it for yourself- and yeah, you probably wouldn't have posted that. No biggie...carry on.

Thanks for the input. I will be watching this for the next few days. Without any hard facts, I just have a gut feeling that the quake that happened on 3/11 is not the last one. I've been trying to placate my gut feeling with facts that prove me wrong, but unfortunately the contrary seems to be happening.

Just to put this in perspective.... here is a current list of after shocks for the region since midnight on Saturday

Gulf of California got hit again today as well

Well it should stay up because Japan sits on the plate that is going over top of the Pacific plate

Here is a look at the plates. You can see the Japanese area has many small plates all moving in different directions

The Sumatran quake in 2004, which generated an Indian Ocean tsunami that left about 220,000 dead or missing in 12 countries, sent aftershocks that continued for years and killed hundreds more.

Here is a chart of the scale. Anything below a 4 causes no damage so they don't really list them on the main tracking lists

There was just a quick interview on Sky News with a French woman in Tokyo.

She was saying that they are being told that "they" are expecting another earthquake on the same scale of Friday with a probability of 70% within the next 48 hours

Her Embassy is advising them to leave Tokyo asap. but the currently cannot as the roads are jammed full.

I am looking at the progress of the aftershocks moving south. Could it be that if they join up with the rogue QU at the bottom, then the whole area would unzip!, or am I being overly alarmist.

I sincerely hope not. and that I am talking rubbish!

Good luck to them all.

What an absolute nightmare situation.

I reat through entire thread and I am impressed by your analysis.

I am not an expert in geology, therefore I do have some questions for you.

Q1. In your opinion all the smaller earthquakes even though they are migrating southwards, do they not relieve stress on the plates, specifically the area you mentioned will have the next big earthquake?

Q2. How big do you think this earthquake will be?

Q3. In your opinion will the super moon/CME/Solar flares accelerate the time it takes for the EQ to occur and will its intensity be increased as well?

Q4. what the time line involved in your opinion? bluntly put it when do you expect it to occur?

Thanks

I am planning to get rid of the dark lord and become Emperor myself.

any response to my questions??????????????????????????????

I read this thread earlier in the day, and to my amazement, this evening my son was reading his "A Really Short History of nearly Everything" the kids version, and he was saying about the meeting point of three tectonic plates, and that if it goes, it would be horrendous,

Gave you a star for your reply. But if my attention today goes farther than quick peeks at ATS and USGS, my two little guys would have been cracking my entire home in half.

I came online, peeked at USGS, got puzzled and asked a question.

Anyway, I hope that there is not going to be a new quake, but I think there will be.

Peace
