Following is a screenshot taken from a video on the ground just as the wave crests, and before it hits:

But watch the video at 4:11 to see it actually hit:

Unbelievable.

Some of those videos were unreal. It's really humbling to witness this kind of destructive force. Speechless...

This make me thankful to live where I do, even if I don't like it at times.

Lol I just spent about 2 minutes clicking on the first "video" wondering why the hell it wouldn't play, then I realized it was only a picture hahaha.

Either way that is a truly horrifying image, doesn't Japan have large flood walls in it's larger cities?

If anyone can watch that video and not be brought to tears, they do not have a soul.

I have posted several articles and videos on facebook. I have all of about three comments. Period. I think most people here (Washington state) would rather just not know about it. Ignore it because that is easier. What is wrong with us?

I could feel the death approaching and I cried for them as they fought to live and now struggle to regain thier feet. God help us if we all lose our empathy. It is what makes us human.

RIGHT????

All I can think of when I watch this is, how much of that debris is people? How many of those houser and cars washing out to sea as the wave went out had people in them?

If you look towards the end, the van the camera was following had passengers in it...

WOW! The power of nature is truly humbling. Those poor souls, my heart aches for them.

Is that a person clinging to that structure at around the 6:45 mark?

Truly humbling and sadly shows how brief our existence really is. My heart goes out to them all.
Towards the end, the large boat around 8:50 appeared to have it engines going?

Man sorry, I don't see anything in that video that looks like more than 20 feet, much less 200. Maybe I am blind, but at 1:22 all I see is vast flooding.

at 1:44 that looks like 20ft to you? That building is atleast 100 feet tall don't you think? The eq was just upgraded to a 9.0 btw

Well, maybe if you count the splash from it hitting the building...

What gets me about the video in the OP at 4:11 is that must be the first wave, cause the ground isn't wet yet and the cars are speeding along as it hits. You know how rare that in itself makes this video, especially for its size? That to me looks bigger than any of the footage we saw of the 2004 tsunami. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean that the waves were bigger- as we know some places reported waves as high as 55 feet or so- some even claimed 100 ft. But sticking around to get video footage that close of such a beast is amazing.

I couldn't stop watching that video, once I started.
So much destruction.

Usually I am not emotional.

But this is an unusual time. Damn I feel for the people of Japan and I feel small in front of the power of nature.
