have you tried changing the water?

That will definitely help some.

Another thing to try is when the cough is bad, try a little bit of Manuka honey on the end of a teaspoon. It has anti bacterial properties. It works for me.

Being winter, and living with pollution, make sure you're taking your Vitamin D. It will help keep you healthy, and fight off whatever the reason for the cough.

This time of the year in East Texas just about everyone has some kind respiratory congestion, sneezing, coughing runny nose or something... I woke up at 4AM because of it and feel like I have a bag over my head and my wife has a sinus related headache.. The dog says he feels fine though and wants to go for his romp in the woods... Sometimes I wish I was a dog..

When i saw this thread i thought to myself im not crazy! My cough started in november and heavy respiratory problems. I was on my to Athens, GA to watch the Georgia game and I stated to feel like i was getting sick and i couldnt breath. Since that time i have had trouble breathing i wake up and it feels im suffocating. I have been to the doctor several times. I take very hot showers and the steam seems to help i also have an inhaler that the doctor gave me. It usually only happens int the middle of the night it wakes me up except for yesterday when it was all day. I understand that its winter and people get sick but i have been sick before i had brochontis when i was younger. BUT.....this has been on going for months now and no amount of doctor trips are helping. For those out there who understand what im talking about your not crazy. So all you people with your honey and doctor visit remedies you can SUCK IT!! Until you experience this you have no clue what its like. This is not your normal "OH ITS WINTER" thing!!! I am a very healthy individual i workout, i take of myself and i watch what I eat. So tell me how a healthy person living a healthy lifestyle after months with at least 4 doctor visits can seem to cure this" respiratory problem?" Im not being paranoid something is definetly going on here.

Sounds like some mysterious invisible infecting agent is being spread around the world. Maybe even by those who are already infected.

Very insightful post, OP.... I dont think we have discovered anything like this before.

I wouldnt worry, i would drink something warm and soothing and perhaps get a bag of cough drops. This where where you put on the big boy pants and ride out "the cough".

Dont read my entire response at once though, you should peak through your blinds and double check your locked doors every few words. You already have "that cough". Never know when "they" are coming.

Last June I quickly developed a nasty, terrible cough after my brother seemed to have it. It stuck with me unfortunately.

It came on strong and was bad enough I had to make a trip to the doctor for the first time in about 6 years. She told me it was bronchitis, which I quickly protested, as when I was younger, had somewhat chronic bronchitis(2-4 times a year), and could tell a concernable difference between the two.

So she gave me heavy cough syrup and antibiotics...nothing. Steroids...some aid, lessened the severity. She refused to continue with them for whatever reason. Claimed cigs had done this to me, and while I admit to being a half a pack smoker for 7 years, I gave up at that point, thinking it was closer to pneumonia than anything and that time was the cure.

Well I still have the cough, nothing like it was back in june through august, but it's there. Mostly after sleeping through the night, it's my wakeup cough a few times a week. Sure I smoke, but this has been a continuing bad cough, with sudden onset, it's certainly strange to me.

DITTO!!!!!!

You can add me to the list. My guess is CHEMTRAILS

When I look out at the sky or horizon all I ever see now is a white mist - not a clear deep blue sky or curvature of the earth anymore...

I really think we're breathing what they're spraying and that's why we're coughing

I have been suffering with a persistent cough and excessive congestion and NO i don't and never have smoked....

I went to the GP in Feb after 3 months of it and I was put on a combination of anitbiotics to clear what had become ' a chronic issue'......

It was a bloody nuisence because even talking to people I would have to interupt to clear my throat continuously......

Happy to say that I am back to my normal talkative and clear self...... thank goodness..

It's been a rather virulent cold/flu season, at least here in the south. I got sick for the first time in over 5 years and the cough lingered for a few weeks after all other symptoms cessated. It's nothing to get all worked up over, really.

I haven't been coughing lately and haven't noticed people around me coughing. However I'm in South Carolina and it is supposed to be 71 degrees later today. Pollen season will start within days and I'll need to take an allergy pill. Then I'll likely suffer from runny nose, sneezing, etc. etc. The trees have starting blooming and it looks like spring. You guys up north will get our weather sooner rather than later I believe.

The sicknesses started here around Thanksgiving and have been ongoing since. It got so bad that I went to the ER after having trouble breathing. I was given antibiotics which I thought cured me but soon after I finished the medicine, all the symptoms came back. Just about everyone I know is sick.

Co-worker has been fighting off a cold since last year around thanksgiving time. Another one seems to be coming down with something as well. Then again the weather over here has been crazy going from Sunny to light and heavy rain also to snow and sometimes sleet and or wintery mix. So temperate flying from around 20 to 40

Yes!

Normally, a thread like this wouldn't get any attention from me, but everyone I know has a cough. My boyfriend, who never ever gets sick (hasn't taken a sick day in the 4 years I've been dating him) has been out this week with a horrible cough. Whenever he laughs, he'll start coughing... which is unfortunate, since everything that comes out of my mouth usually induces laughter in others.

I have a cough as well, but I'm not worried... my cough is there for a reason. I smoke too much. xP

I don't want to discount many of these cases are just cold or flu, which most likely are, however, it seems with some, including myself, have been getting a cough that isn't temporary by any means. It's like getting a flu that takes 30% of your lung function out for good. I think we ought to focus on that aspect in this thread.

That's not abnormal at all. Why do you think the flu can be fatal for the elderly and the young? Severely compromised lungs.

Not to mention, people are ignoring the fact that a viral, upper respiratory infection (especially the flu) is followed by a similar bacterial infection more often than not. One of the main abilities of influenza virus is paralyzing the ciliated cells of the throat and upper bronchi. When these are functioning at a less-than-optimal level, it's much, much easier for a bacterial infection to set in (as normally, they would be caught and coughed up).

Why does every easily explainable phenomenon have to be turned into a giant ordeal? Don't you see this is why the media plays up the "bird flu" sort of stories?

My husband and I both caught a cold around Thanksgiving. It wasn't that bad for either of us bu the cough has lingered ever since. I have more of a nagging cough and sore throat that I swear feels like day 2 of strep throat almost every morning. But by the time I get up and get around it starts to go away and by the time I'm ready for work its's as though it never hurt. For the first time in my life about a month or so ago I woke up from coughing in the middle of the night and for about 10 minutes I could hardley breathe and felt horrible, then it was just gone and I was totally fine and fell right back asleep. My husband just has a slight cough that seems to come and go but he's had the waking up in the night and not being able to breathe because of the coughing more often than me. Strange thing is neither one of us have any signs of illness whatsoever except for the moment of coughing or the few waking up incidents. We have decided it must just be the vog where we live since Kilauea is so active even though the levels are said to be low. We've been advised to get an air conditioner.

I've been coughing, but that is entirely because I QUIT SMOKING 16 days ago! Woo!

To answer your question, no, no one else I know is coughing.

But it is barely spring, so... like... aren't there usually tons of people coughing like every single year around this time? I don't really understand the significance.
