In a few weeks the aftershocks will stop. That's pretty much how it is after a big earthquake.

Get over yourself. Gullible is one of the main reasons we have as much info on these threads as we do. And EVERY SINGLE aftershock is relevant, if you know anything about quakes.

Perhaps YOU ought to keep your opinions to yourself, considering you contradict yourself by posting an opinion filled diatribe telling someone to leave their opinions out.

actually a few scientists interviewed have said that the aftershocks are quite normal for this size of an event, and there may be aftershocks for several days after

Why? You think God can't decide what to do and he needs your input? Or maybe you think you can convince him to change his plans? He's making a cruel game of it based on votes? Maybe you should have been praying that there wouldn't be anymore earthquakes.

I know I'm supposed to make every post matter, and yadda yadda yadda...however....extremely cruel post, adds nothing to the conversation, collection of information, and in fact steals the conversation from what is truly important right now, which is in fact hoping for the best for all of those touched by this unfathomable disaster. Just saying. This thread has been nothing short of amazing, as far as attaining hasty updates and information that allows one to put this whole situation into perspective. This is a history making event. Not a couple of misguided teenagers killing someone with a stolen firearm or a "corrupt police officer" tasing an elderly woman. I've seen some disturbing/disgusting/selfish posts today (which isn't exactly uncommon here, but never in my life would I think I'd read some of this things some people have CHOSEN to say. If you don't want to say a prayer or keep the people of that ravished country in your thoughts, then don't. But that makes you an awful person.

I have to say that I'm appreciating your updates - I'm a complete newcomer to seismology, but I'm finding the frequency and strengh fascinating and shocking. This does not mean I am enjoying this situation of course.

Anyway, thanks for the updates.

not normal, i have heard people on the news saying this is strange , that the place has not stoped shaking,

The only reason it seems not normal and strange that the aftershocks are so high is that the main quake was enormous and we're used to seeing what are now the aftershocks as the main quake.

I haven't heard anyone on the news say that it is strange that the aftershocks are large; only commenting on the magnitude of the aftershocks and then saying that they are so large because the main quake was 8.9.

No, Japan hasn't stopped shaking yet; that just is how it is after a big quake. It is not like a tornado that comes and then goes.

A very good question. I have not any evidence yet checked all news sites and have gone through every available video footage.

Earthquake occurred during after noon so might be that if there were any earthquake lights as a precursor they might not have been recorded.

Thanks

I personally like seeing the updates of the quake activity I have been researching quakes now for close to 20 years, but today I got ticked at CNN. They said 50 after shocks yet there was over 100 after shocks, the after shocks were up and down and at different depths. That is not normal.
