This picture was taken by Alan Friedman, who is no stranger to this blog: his picture of the boiling Sun last year was hugely popular, and so amazing I featured it as one of my top pictures of 2010. And with this he’s done it again…

Found this floating around and thought you may like to see, apologies if already posted.

To think that is what provides life for the entire surface of this planet.

Truly mind blowing picture.

The Sun is as close to staring in the face of God as we're going to get.

For many it is the face of God. Awesome picture. Looks very van Gogh.

you have a real small conception of God, lol it looks like a close up of an unfertilized egg. i think looking inside a atom is a closer look to God than something as large as the sun. they do the same thing more or less yet look at the scale difference....that is God

If there is a God, it IS the Sun as far as I'm concerned. Just how much life would be here without it (None, is the answer)? Without the Sun, there would NEVER have been life here...period. And it's as easy as that in ANY rational mind.

It, as opposed to the Earth, is the nucleus to this atom we call the Solar System, yet still only an obscure section of "human" life on this planet realizes what it provides, let alone the potential threat it represents to us if things go wrong with it.

Thank you for truly one of the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen of it - and I've been studying it for awhile...S&F

You wouldn't even be here to pray to whichever God you believe in, if it weren't for the Sun.
