Quit pipe dreaming...without federal aid Texas would sink within the year...simple mathemetics!! Can anyone explain to me how long the state could survive on its own...and how!! We're no longer in the 19th century. The US is already down the tubes, so what on earth do you think Texas ( which I love profoundly!) can do to survive alone against a failing national economy, a pathetic international image ( thanks to a bunch of political moro.

===============================================================================

You know what, you need to open your damn eyes.

Texas could return to sound money. based on precious metals, and idea that the feds don't want you to know.

Texas has a hard working and industrious population, it could fend for itself.

Without the inflation tax of fiat money, and without federal tax, Texas would prosper beyond belief.

Please tell me, what you have been smoking.

Exacatly.Texas could create it's own currency based on their resources.Cause the dollar is gonna take a dive and be worthless in a few years if not within a few months. The nation of Texas could happen when you get rid of the corrupt politicians.

If this happened:

- No more federal income tax
- The "national debt" owed by those living in Texas would become irrelevant
- People would move to Texas
- Business would boom
- Jobs would be created
- The economy would recover (in Texas)

I'm for it.

Ever eat Deer? how about Squrrel? Snake? or Turtle? I'm with Boondock on this one I grew up on the land in Michigan and the rule was in my family if you kill it, you clean it and it will be cooked and eaten what ever it is other than human. 99.9% of the time it was great eatin' not just good.

Not quite sure what point you were trying to drive home with that graphic, but the map shows Texas, in combination with the entire southeast except Florida, to be the most racially diverse area in the entire country...

Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin.

While it is noble for you to want to defend your fellow ATSer, I am quite certain that you fully understood that my point was not that no one would be tempted by the promise of critters but that it would hardly translate to a popular drive toward revolution. 2 people on ATS do not a majority make, but I am sure you know that.

Sidenote. My problem with deer is the singular standard response all venison eaters parrot when I express my dislike for it. They all say word for word - "Then it was not cooked the right way." You know what I like about good food? You do not need to cook it the right way for it to taste good.

Some people believe racial diversity to be the end all of civilization, mostly its the race obsessed...

I chose to live in Missouri.

I hardly ever think about a persons race only thier qualities; however, for #s and giggles...a search reveals:

Carrol County Missouri Statistics: Demographics 98.5% White alone.

I have no problem with this I have all my antural teeth and no tatoos - I think instead of checking that ratio we should chek the debt to income ratio of the state in relation to demographics and then the rate of public assistance to demographics in relation to the political party in power as well.

Wonder what we'd discover? I think we'd all find that the democrat run states have higher "diversity" greater urban density, tighter gun laws nore crime, higher dropout rates, higher taxes and more...

Statewide according to that source MO is 89% white alone so perhaps we are "worse" than Texas - lol!

As for your attitude towards laborers, they are not underpaid.

--Texas ranked 16th highest in wages nationally and was the lone state in the Southwest to place among the top half of all states.--
www.bls.gov...

Now couple that with a lower cost of living (most place you can get a one bedroom apartment for $600-800. In 2000, we had a posh 4 bedroom apartment in Dallas. We payed $1400/month).

Median cost of owning a house is $120,000.

As for Wal-Mart, they only exist in Texas, right?

But keep making up facts to try and prove your point. I am not the one getting egg on my face.

There are actually 26 states now in the Florida hc lawsuit, and the judge gave the govt a week to file a appeal! This suggests to me that a lot of people are willing to separate from draconian laws.

Likely soon to be more, I think. I know that the NC legislature passed a bill to exempt NC residents from the Individual Mandate and joining the FL lawsuit along with the other states already in it, and the governor vetoed it. Now the moves are afoot to override the veto.

I saw several pages back a map showing the states where secession had been bandied about, and one thing that struck me was that they were too spread out to form any sort of mutual assistance pacts against US aggressions in that event. one notable exception was TX-OK-MO, with contiguous borders. If the states involved in the lawsuit were all to take up that torch, it could prove a wee bit more interesting, giving them a decent chance at a run of it.

As a note to those not familiar with Texas history. Texas has the right to secede from the Union/U.S.A. something many other states do not have the right to do. it further allows that Texas could divide itself into 5 separate states if wanted as well. IMO it's good that D.C. and all of our representatives be reminded that we the people are frustrated and they are there to serve us, not we serve them.

I do not care for deer either - like somoene said it's hard to prepare in a palatable maner. However, about any meat with a high fat content tastes good.

I am partial to duck/geese myself for that reason and I raise my own. Mmmmm grilled duck breasts basted in itallian dressing.

Map reading lessons would assist him greatly in not making such egregious blunders. He was trying to make the point that Texas is racist, and actually claimed the map showed a decided LACK of racial diversity to back that claim up - as in "we don't 'low yer kind 'round here" backup. Problem is, he didn't read it right - those lightest states are the MOST diverse racially, with the northeast and northern Rockies the least diverse.

Isn't the northeast the home of rampant progressivism? Seems they have a racial diversity problem... Frakkin' racists!

Eh, as much as I'd love this to happen, it won't.

We're pretty much self sufficient. We could get by, but there's a lot of crooks here in Texas, just as there are in Washington.

The adjutant general is commander of the Texas Military Forces, and subordinate only to the governor in matters pertaining to the Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard and Texas State Guard.

Furthermore . . .

--The Preamble to the United States Constitution contains the basic mandate for the
maintenance of military forces: "to provide for the common defense." Regarding the
National Guard, Congress is authorized in the Constitution "to provide for organizing,
arming, and disciplining the Militia” – reserving to the States respectively, the appointment
of the Officers, and the authority of training the Militia according to the discipline
prescribed by Congress" in Article I, Section 8. The Constitution further specifies that the
President is Commander-in-Chief of the Militia "when called into the actual Service of the
United States." The Texas Constitution makes the Governor "Commander-in-Chief of the
military forces of the State, except when they are called into actual service of the United
States."[TX Govt. Code, Title 4, Chap. 431, Sect. 002.]-- (Page 6)

edit on 3/8/2011 by Lemon.Fresh because: Clarity

Precisely. If you read that it shows that the divisional commander is in charge UNTIL they are called to arms. Then the President takes over. Read it carefully you just proved my point.

The day that Texas declares independence is the day the president takes complete control. Even if he didn't, I'd wager the current commanding officer would still do Washingtons bidding.
