Fact is , the Libyan people do not want the assistance of military forces from the US , the UK, Germany , France, or even thier Arabic neighbours.
Even the staunchest anti Gaddafi demonstrator/freedom fighter will tell you, that they want and need no help to bring down thier leader of forty two
years, just time , determination, and guts. In the early days of the protests there, protestors were shot down by police and military units. All those
who died in those first exchanges were facing front , and did not flinch . That is the determination that those anti Gaddafi forces in the nation have
at thier backs.
The other thing is that Libyans dont seem to want the west there because they KNOW that instead of having to deal with Gaddafi and his bullets,
beatings and murders, they would be saddled with Christ knows how many OTHER problems caused by, or not helped by western intervention. For one thing,
the last thing they need is someone ELSE trying to control the oil feilds out there. They must be left alone, and the wealth from the proceeds of any
sale of oil must be dispersed entirely in Libya and see the inside of only Libyan pockets, unless the people deem otherwise. In short, the people of
Libya must be the ones who free thier nation, who control its transition to peace in the aftermath of bloodshed. This they have demanded of western
governments via the media on countless occasions over the time of trouble there. Ever since the beginning they have asked to be allowed to just get on
with it, without other folks getting in thier way.
I appreciate the hell out of that, because it speaks to thier worldly understanding of the process of intervention by western governments in recent
years, and also speaks to the understanding the Libyan people have regarding the lives of soldiers . They do not want others getting mangled in a
grinder that they see as thier mess, and thier duty to sort out. I have no issue with western nations sending medical and humanitarian aid to the
borderlands surrounding Libya, because that is where the refugees are currently concentrated , and conditions there have been reportedly terrible,
although the red cross, and red crecent organisation has been doing a bang up job of keeping folks looked after as best they can. But sticking our
noses in when even the good guys dont want us around is asking for trouble.
