Well, the footage speaks differently.
Gadhafi's killing his own people to stay in power and reap the rewards of an oil rich country.

Now, I agree that the US doesn't have the right to decide who should control a nation. This is up to the people of thus nation.

But I believe the US should be able to assist, in a very limited means so that the people have the upper hand against their armed, ruthless dictators.

But, as soon as Haliburton, Bechtel.. or ANY other US corporate entities starting licking their lips over the situation.. then im afraid the US has once again sold its soul to the devil.

Im just sick of his posturing on the "humanitarian crisis."

SInce when do we care about human beings? Not when our VIP trading partner China is screwing Tibet. Not when we are bombing the crap out of innocent Iraqis. Not when Saudi Arabia has some of the least woman friendly laws in the world. Oh thats right. We care about human beings when it suits us to.

When there is a leader we dont like, who has something we want or need, then we care.

If you have nothing we need and want, you can abuse your people all day long. Start a genocide, we dont care.

If you have something we need and want AND you happen to be OUR sociopath, and let us have all the access we need to that thing, you can abuse your people all day long too.

But if you stop letting the super rich have access to your resources, including ports, pipelines, etc., anything you do is a humanitarian crisis.

Just call it what it is.

What get's me is why the US has so much firepower sitting on the border getting people anxious another war is brewing when all it would take is a sniper... you don't want to leave? ok can you stay still for a second.

You are right. Its just so hard to make a comprehensive list of humanitarian abuses we dont care about because there are just so many.

I couldn't believe it when the administration actually froze Qaddaffi's assets, quite a surprise. Maybe it was because of Khadafi's speech in 2008 : www.youtube.com... But let's have some fun with stuff.

Okay, soooooo.... obama... wright, quadaffi/khadaffi/ghadaffi/, farrakhan, malcolm x(played by denzel washington) Denzel Washington was in "Man on Fire" with Dakota Fanning , Dakota Fanning was in "Trapped" with Kevin Bacon.... wait??? is that more than six?
www.wnd.com...
terrifying...
sweetness-light.com... (oh, and father pfleger's name comes up again)

Though, would it have been any different if McShame (thank you Savage) would have gotten "elected"? The whole system is putrid

Gadhafi could care less about what Obama says or does unless Obama uses military force...

Yes and let those whom smell money to go in and use Lybias Oil resources for thier own greed. That is what this is all about, to gain afoot on lybias oil wealth. Obama thinks if Gadaffe leaves, the path would be open for US oil companies.

Because to replace Gadhafi with a puppet leader that the people of Libya and the region will find legitimate takes patience, posturing, and manipulating public opinion.

If he just got sniped, his people would cry foul at the west. And other people in the region would too.

Fact is , the Libyan people do not want the assistance of military forces from the US , the UK, Germany , France, or even thier Arabic neighbours. Even the staunchest anti Gaddafi demonstrator/freedom fighter will tell you, that they want and need no help to bring down thier leader of forty two years, just time , determination, and guts. In the early days of the protests there, protestors were shot down by police and military units. All those who died in those first exchanges were facing front , and did not flinch . That is the determination that those anti Gaddafi forces in the nation have at thier backs.

The other thing is that Libyans dont seem to want the west there because they KNOW that instead of having to deal with Gaddafi and his bullets, beatings and murders, they would be saddled with Christ knows how many OTHER problems caused by, or not helped by western intervention. For one thing, the last thing they need is someone ELSE trying to control the oil feilds out there. They must be left alone, and the wealth from the proceeds of any sale of oil must be dispersed entirely in Libya and see the inside of only Libyan pockets, unless the people deem otherwise. In short, the people of Libya must be the ones who free thier nation, who control its transition to peace in the aftermath of bloodshed. This they have demanded of western governments via the media on countless occasions over the time of trouble there. Ever since the beginning they have asked to be allowed to just get on with it, without other folks getting in thier way.

I appreciate the hell out of that, because it speaks to thier worldly understanding of the process of intervention by western governments in recent years, and also speaks to the understanding the Libyan people have regarding the lives of soldiers . They do not want others getting mangled in a grinder that they see as thier mess, and thier duty to sort out. I have no issue with western nations sending medical and humanitarian aid to the borderlands surrounding Libya, because that is where the refugees are currently concentrated , and conditions there have been reportedly terrible, although the red cross, and red crecent organisation has been doing a bang up job of keeping folks looked after as best they can. But sticking our noses in when even the good guys dont want us around is asking for trouble.

Just a side note or simple fact
while it does take an act of congress to declare war... But... (Dont you just hate the buts)...
The Marines can be sent in with only a Presidential order... in essence bypassing congress

We havn't declared war since WW2. The Executive has defacto war declaration powers. The only thing Congress controls anymore are the purse strings that fund the military and our campaigns. One day, even that too will probably change.

You shouldnt use the term "we" so freely though. Otherwise, I agree with most of what you say.

The same people who would love to rape Libya of its resources have been raping the American people of theirs, etc.

The economic elite are not "us" just because they claim to be when they need tax dollars and soldiers. They are only loyal to themselves. They are parasites on nations like the US and UK, they arent "us."

Reading today that many tribal leaders are rising against Gadhafi. It's said this will have big impact as Libya's tribes really are what makes the country. A quote from a senior member of the nation's powerful Warfallah tribe (per CNN) says: "he is no longer a brother." [Gadhafi, that is].
