Isn't there an old American saying that goes "them's fight'n words"?

I bet the guy must cringe these days when he remembers how he proved to the world how big a jerk he was...

...Frankly, although the guy is being a royal pain in the butt, Buzz should have been brought up on charges of assault for hitting him as he did.

Assault is assault.

Bart Sibrel would have to press charges, which he didn't.

That's his prerogative.

But the fact remains Buzz broke the law by assaulting this berk, which make him a criminal.
As i say, he wasn't prosecuted for it, so it simply means he is a criminal who has not been convicted.

Or is punching someone in the face not criminal assault in the US anymore?

Hypothetical;

How about if Buzz went home that evening and his wife had a go at him verbally for the way he acted, assaulting the guy in the street, acting more like a drunk or drugged up common street thug and not like a heroic and tempered American who is known and recognised around the world, an real ambassador for the American people. What if she enraged him with what she was saying, and he smashed her in the face for saying something that 'annoyed him'?

Would that be ok too? She would have done the same as this guy did...and got the same for her trouble...so would it be admirable for Buzz to have hit her like he hit him? How about a teenager? What if it was a 14 years old saying the same things to him?

Would you be saying 'Way to go Buzz' then?

If you say no, that no, it's not ok for Buzz to hit his wife or a kid for 'winding him up', then congratulations..you're officially an ignorant hypocrite..revel in it if it makes you happy.

Just a heads up for thoe who missed it (obvious, in the last several pages.....)...

This is OLD news. Gone, past, buried. From 2002!

NO, charges were not brought against Aldrin....based on the prosecutor's office reviewing the footage, and the facts of what led up prior. There WAS no case against Aldrin.

As to Sibrel? His actions speak to his character. Contrary to what some other poster claimed, I have no need to disparage him, he does it to himself quite satisfactorily. (Referring to the "jumping on the car hood [bonnet]" that is mentioned in the Wiki entry for Sibrel. This indicates a character trait that is telling. My pointing it out is NOT "character assassination"!!!)

Some people need to get a grip on reality.....sheesh!

There should be a thread around here buried very deep about it.

I remember seeing it on here and I may have even posted there.

I was probably an idiot back then and sided with Buzz, but I am smarter now and do not accept criminal actions from someone just because they are an astronaut.

It's not about manners and decorum, it's about dignity and self respect. If I live to be 71 and ANYONE calls me a coward they are getting an imprint of my wrinkled fist on their forehead. Any "man" who says otherwise needs to rethink his commitment to manhood.

I don't accept his actions just because he is an astronaut. I understand his actions because he is a human being.

First of all, yes, it is a crime what Buzz did. Second of all, I do not know if I would have done the same as Buzz or not. I can definitely understand why it was done but the Supreme Court has held that words are not a defense against an action.

Second of all, it was not an assault. It was battery. Look up the definitions. Assault is a threat, battery is an action. I did not see it in the video, but someone else commented that the jerk actually touched Buzz with a bible while ranting at him. If he did, then he also committed a battery and Buzz would have been well within his rights to defend himself.

But more to the point. A simple battery, as that was, very rarely results in jail time. At worst, a fine and maybe a short probationary period.

However, I have to say that if someone got in my face and called me a coward and liar I may respond the same way, or not, depending on what kind of day I was having.

But in this circumstance, I back Buzz and say "Great job!"

Sounds like you're compensating for something.....

A real man is happy enough with himself and doesn't dignify fools' accusations with stupid behavior.

But how do explain the main part of video??

Armstrong says something like 100,000 miles out but clearly is not.

Best evidence they have of moon landing is the laser mirror but that could be put there by robot. And I don't believe the Russians would know anything they far overrated.

Buzz's whole fame and name is all based on the moon lie, so of course he is never going to admit the truth, and he will react with violence if anything threatens his fake prestige. I do think someday the moon scam will be widely revealed and mass realized.

I've often wondered about this incident, if there is absolutely no doubt that we went to the moon, if it is such unimpeachable fact, why would Aldrin feel the need to react like this? Why wouldn't he just laugh at his accuser's preposterous claims?

Why wouldn't he just laugh at his accuser's preposterous claims?

Because Bart Sibrel was pestering him, in his personal space, for far longer than just seen in the short video clip. THAT was just the final straw reaction. Sibrel followed him all the way from an office, down a hallway, through the lobby, and outside....

....and, the final insult? Listen to Sibrel. He clearly calls Buzz Aldrin a "liar" and a "coward".

Justified. Completely. For a twit like Sibrel, he deserves no respect, only scorn....

Impulsive, reflexive "manly" reaction, perhaps, on the part of Aldrin. And, I expect, immensely satisfying....

Yeah I also think it would have been a satisfying moment, Sibrel is an antagonistic douchebag, but surely Aldrin could anticipate the fuel he would add to the fire by reacting in such a fashion. And if it was just an impulsive expression of his anger, that's not the type of person I'd want to be flying to the moon with.

Buzz gets charged, he just needs a jury trial, and he'll be declared innocent.

Thing is, he exhibited extreme restraint.

Should be glad Buzz wasn't "carrying."

Either the moon landings are fake, and Mr. Aldrin got upset over someone exposing what could be one of humanity's darkest secret......or Buzz should be enrolling in Anger Management courses. Either way, physically assaulting another man for his 1st amendment right calls for legal punishment. If any of us had done that, and it was on video, we would be going to jail. Equality starts with treating EVERYBODY the same, EVERYBODY!

Did anyone call you out on this yet? You got some stars for playing the 1st amendment card? Do you know why I am not exercising my 1st amendment right? Why I have to pick and choose my words carefully that I would rather not have to do to respond to your point of view?.....Have you ever seen posts that have just a big "Warning" sign or some other censorship because someone was exercising what they thought was their 1st amendment right.

...you know...not going to waste the time...find a George Carlin youtube where he addresses Rights...YOU HAVE NONE! They are privileges that can be taken from you.......and besides....Buzz was being abused and assaulted and had the "Right" to defend himself...He is an old man and this guy was so angry that Buzz feared that he was in immediate danger of bodily harm.......yeah, even I could win this case wearing a cupid outfit while Gregorian chanting my request for a dismissal.

How many of you 'whoo hoo...hit him again Buzz' types, would feel the same way if Buzz had punched your mother or father or daughter / son in the face, because they told him they considered him to be a liar and dishonest about his exploits? I wouldn't be.

*raises hand*

Me.

Ya see. He didn't put it the way you did. He didn't stand a respectful distance away and say in a calm voice "Buzz, I think you are dishonest about your exploits and a liar."

Instead he got in his face and yelled, "You are a Liar, Coward and Thief!" I'd expect my mom, dad, kids, wife, brother, friends and myself to all know better and to have the common courtesy not to behave in such a manner. If they (or I) did behave in such a manner I would fully expect them to get their (or my) nose broken sooner or later and feel the person who broke it to be well within their rights to do so.

There is a vast difference between being able to call someone a liar and deliberately provoking someone by getting nose to nose with them and yelling it in their face. This was a case of the latter.

I've seen this unedited. That harasser goes around and shoves a bible in former Apollo astronaut's faces. Challenges them to swear on it, that they went to the Moon. Follows them around and calls them liars.

My understanding is that he tried to get Buzz in legal trouble, but the Judge threw it out of court. That's what you get for messing with the first guy to piss on the Moon.

This strikes me as strange for someone who maintains the veracity of the moon landing to hit another over the accusation of it being faked. It seems to me that he acted on a conflict of high emotions....what he considered his patriotic duty to defeat the russians in the space race (cold war) on the one hand versus the moral dissonance for having lived a lie all of these years on the other. Just my .02.
