You hit the nail right on the head. Someone made a whole lot of money on this rumor.
If he was shot and killed it would be all over the news by now.

Now there are reports on twitter that President Obama will announce that is dead. Seems this rumor is running rampant! If he is really dead, maybe those oil traders have a CIA friend? That would not surprise me one bit.

As for the rumor itself, if not started to manipulate oil prices, could have started by people questioning the phone speech today. Many are saying it was not Gaddafi.

Upon first hearing/reading the "rumor" my first thought was that it was indeed spread to manipulate oil prices. However, it is not inconceivable that one or both (he really is dead) situations are true. I guess we shall soon find out. So, by the way, the man does or does not have multiple body-doubles (ala Sadam Hussein) ... do we know?

As far as his doubles. I have not heard of
Gadhafi using doubles. However, in light
of recent events, he may have adopted
the notion.

Maybe that's how the rumor started,
maybe one of his doubles was offed.
Who knows at this point?

But it is def something to look for.
We may find Gadhafi dead in a bunker like
Hitler was found.

Gaddafi Fleeing with Gold, or “Going to go like Hitler”?

Libya’s dictator, Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi, has filled his personal private plane with gold bullion and is seriously considering fleeing the nation, according to ABC News.

The report cited London-based Libyan political activist, Guma el-Gamaty, who told ABC’s Lateline that “quite reliable sources” believe Gaddafi is preparing to “flee to Zimbabwe to stay there with his friend Robert Mugabe (the current President of Zimbabwe).”

el-Gamaty went on to say that “We think this could happen very shortly because the (United Nations) Security Council is threatening to impose a no-fly zone and we think that Gaddafi will try to escape before this no-fly zone is imposed, possibly by tomorrow…So this is the most serious story we’ve heard today. It’s very indicative of the fact that Gaddafi is totally isolated, surrounded more or less and is probably in a state of mind where he’s just concentrating and thinking about how to escape and run away and stay alive.”

Obama does a press conference just to
tell the world Gadhafi is dead??

The only way I can see this happening
is if Obama declares that Gadhafi was
killed on his (Obama) orders or orders
from the UN Security Council.

Otherwise, we would be hearing this type
news from the WH Press Secretary, not
Obama.

Typical rumors (it seems) as there is no mention of a press conference on any news site nor the WH site, that I can find (granted, I didn't look that hard) but as of now, it's looking highly dubious.

Yeah, knew way before we did / do. That is why I always find it funny when there are articles published about how these "insiders" know something is going to happen in the market before it happens.

It doesn't work that way. It happens in the market before the article has the first word printed.

Most likely dealers and commercial wholesalers knew something was up first (the biggest interest). That leaves the other 99.5% of the marketplace taking stabs in the dark.
