Originally Lahore Stadium, the facility was renamed in 1974 in honour of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi following a speech he gave at an Organisation of the Islamic Conference meeting in favour of Pakistan's right to pursue nuclear weapons.

I wonder if Pakistan will change the stadiums name?

Probably not but if they did what will they call it?, suggestions welcome.......

I believe they will have to........

Is one line still a violation on ATS? Sometimes there's really not much you can say.

This is the stadium where the Sri Lanka cricket team was heading towards when their bus was ambushed and attacked by gunmen in 2009, killing 6 policemen and a driver, and injuring a number of the Sri Lankan players.

Since then, all international cricket matches in Pakistan have been postponed indefinitely, as they can not guarantee the safety of visiting teams.

Whether they rename it or not may be a rather moot point, because it may not host anything of any international note for many years to come.

Also, they may not want to rename it, considering they've kept this name throughout many previous years of Gaddafi craziness.
