Live updates: Christchurch quake

tvnz.co.nz...

www.stuff.co.nz...

Hope everyone in our family is ok, no one is answering their phones. Can anyone in New Zealand give me an update? I know this one felt more powerful than the last one because it is more shallow.

Unfortunately there are some fatalaties. This was smaller than last September's quake in magnitude but was much shallower & has done a lot more damage.

Just watching news reports. Phones are down & there are several buildings completely flattened. It's bad.

I think we should send some prayers out for Christchurch. They just had another aftershock & the ground has liquified under a lot more buildings. Won't take much to bring them down.

I'm in the US right now, but my entire family is there (in-laws) and we can't get a hold of anyone. Some of them are on holiday 2 hours away and we don't know if the house is still standing or anything. CNN says the phone lines are down.

The New Zealand Herald reported that phone lines in the area were out, roads were cracked and water mains had burst.

In Australia we are getting Live feeds on nearly every tv channel. Heartbreaking film, confirmed dead by police, injured people running and screaming, people getting pulled from rubble, evacuation, flooding. Aftershocks are the issue they are saying are frightening for them. Man we really are copping it in this part of the world.

Yep just turned on the TV after my sister mentioned it, looks like its worse than the last one, not as strong but very shallow... Christchurch cathedrals been heavily damaged, and it wasnt even scratched the last time.

Lots of buildings down it seems and it happened during the busy part of the day. Dont think the no deaths miracle of the last one will happen this time unfortunately.

Not good... back to the news.

Here is a video of the destroyed cathedral in the center of the city, it was our icon...

www.3news.co.nz...

2.08pm: Police say "multiple fatalities" have been reported at several locations in the central city. This includes two buses crushed by falling buildings. A doctor and emergency services are attending.

Are you really going to come in and start criticising ? Every thread...

One more for the ignore filter I think....

--

Now they're saying MASS deaths, but as yet still no count, the city has run out of ambulances to take the injured to hospitals so they're using police cars..

As night approaches, with the threat of severe aftershocks, I can only see this getting much much worse..

The entire place appears devastated... jesus..
