These are all articles about Chavez and the government trying to intimidate the media. Surely if he was such a great leader, he would welcome a media with a different point of view?

Funny how that glaringly stands out while people bash America on forums made possible by us....
"When I came to power, we had to import all our corn.
Now that is not necessary. We broke production records last year (as they're flying over crop fields)
Now we're building processing plants. This is where [they say] we're building the Iranian atomic bomb. Their corn bomb. (laughter)
We process our own corn, in our own plant. We make the flour, in this case with the help of Iran, and we sell it very cheaply to the people."

You can be spoonfed truth by the media or you can watch this alternate video by someone who actually bothered to find the truth himself .

The media in Venezuela is overwhelmingly anti-Chavez. Venemously. The media in Venezuela cannot be imagined in the West. It simply doesn't happen. Infact, I'm glad you brought that up. While you think it shows Venezuela and Chavez in a poor light, it actually confirms Venezuela has arguebly the most free media in the world. Which has been abused by enemies of the state. Anti-Establishment media in America or Britain is unimaginable. And you know it.
Chavez only shut down media outlets which supported the attempted illegal coup against him. If there were an attempted military uprising against the civilian US Government tomorrow, and CNN told people to get their guns and join it, would you expect the US government to just let it go? Absolutely not. The media has social responsibility, which includes not endorsing violent oppression of legitimate democratic processes.
Also these media networks in question are overwhelmingly hated by the people of Venezuela. But still, he allows them to speak out against him. And they speak out against him, his government and Democracy on a daily basis.
Your post highlights a complete lack of understanding of domestic Venezuelan issues, especially regarding media freedom and positions.
