My friend at work told me that I shoulden't see this movie If I have a loved one over seas can anyone tell me why?

Most likely because it is a form of propaganda, and those over seas do not approve of such "explanations", that may be contrary to why they volunteered to serve in the Armed Forces.

Don't let anyone tell you what not to see, if you want to see it do so. But keep in mind it is a movie and there for has bias.

He may have meant if you had a loved one in Iraq or Afghanistan.
There is a scene in the movie which follows a woman who lost her son in the war. That may be painful to watch if you know someone over there.
