Working OK now. Difficult to say if that was the quakes moving it or the ring spinning. You would be better able to tell looking at it.

You might invest in a proper plumb bob as a makeshift seismo. The spin on the ring was a bit distracting whereas a plumb bob is hung from the centre so any spin does not really matter.

The real question is did any movement coincide with any feelings?

Thank you for doing that video, Susan. Besides the tiny bit of spinning, you could definitely see it start to show other signs of movement.

Next time, would you let the kitty have a go at it? I kept expecting a leaping cat to jump out to attack her "new toy". LOL

What about a fising weight for tight lining, would that work as a plumb bob.

Not really while filming it, but the one I mentioned after wards did.I wish I would have still been filming on that one.I'll do it again in the morning with something better.

Well yes possibly. You need something heavy (4 oz) and centre hung and with a point so you can see the movement clearly (and even measure it)

You could try using the fishing weight if you could tie it in the centre and just blue tac a short sharp pencil onto it.

I was take aback by something later in that article.

Interesting to note in all of these events is the United States Army announcing this week that it is holding a rare training event involving the US Military, the CIA, Canadian officers, US Treasury and State departments, the US Agency for International Development, the Defense Threat Readiness Agency and the International Red Cross between March 21-25 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and which should the worst happen they will certainly be prepared for it.
As this report concludes, that as of yet, “no firmly reliable” method for predicting earthquakes has been scientifically recognized, it is well worth noting the too many to be ignored anomalous coincidences leading up to catastrophic mega-quakes are breaking out all over the World and should only be ignored at ones peril.
In other words, it is always best to be prepared should disaster strike, wherever the warning comes from.

Nice video. I could see some swing beyond the spin. And yes a heavy bell sinker used for fishing would make a great weight. Another improvement might include a clock in the background.

I would like to do something like this, but I'm about 50 miles south of Greenbrier. The only quake I've felt was the 4.7 back on the 28th. It would be just as well if I didn't feel another.

In the last hour ive had 8 low flying jets, navy a6's and 2 p3 orions fly over my valley.
they do it a lot in the summer but its now a raging snow storm seems there flying pretty low in bad weather god speed boys. and dont forget to close your eyes luke, it will make the force stronger.

A cheaper version than a plumb bob, use a fishing sinker, can get fairly large sizes at any bait and tackle shop. Even walmart.

Was thinking you could also use a glass , fill 3/4 full of water, then add veg oil mixed with food coloring (so the oil shows up) the oil would float on top and you could see movement in the oil. (it would also eliminate movement due to drafts.)
