The Secrets of Schröteri

Haven't had a good Moon Anomaly thread for some time... mostly due to lack of time to search images. But in one of the LRO images NASA uses the title "Secrets of Schröteri"

Now when NASA uses a term like that, one just has to be curious

Exhuberant1 wanted to see... and started searching... he just had to find the 'secret' Below is what he found...

The Secrets of Schröteri
PIA13688

This is the full image of the area scanned... the black strips showing the sections...

Original Caption Released with Image:

Vallis Schröteri is a magnificent sinuous rille and of particular interest is its inner rille, which diverges from the primary rille near the arrow. This nested form indicates that multiple eruptive events occurred or there was a large change in the volume of a single eruption over time. LROC WAC mosaic, 100 meters/pixel (328 feet/pixel).

NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center built and manages the mission for the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera was designed to acquire data for landing site certification and to conduct polar illumination studies and global mapping. Operated by Arizona State University, LROC consists of a pair of narrow-angle cameras (NAC) and a single wide-angle camera (WAC). The mission is expected to return over 70 terabytes of image data.

Sweet!
Any ideas? I'm guessing 'Made Here'.

Quick edit to ask what the 'divergences' in the track might be?

edit on 15-2-2011 by JohnnyCanuck because: (no reason given)

Hhmmmm thats a interesting object indeed. Kinda looks like some kinda of left over equipment from the moon landings? even tho i dont think this is the same location as that, right? Also it clearly moves, as is evidenced by the trail left in the ground.

rover , mining equipment ?

ive always had a sneaky feeling after watching the werner von braun disney series that it was some sort of whistle blowing of mining ops on several planets in our solar system ,

sure in the series it was aliens eating rock and making tunnels but one has to read between the lines so to say ,

mining and tunneling equipment , if i recall correctly , during 1820´s there where actual planing on how to make the bodies habitable and the first steps where to send drones/robots over there to make the facilities and then send humans ,

s+f for the find

Come to think of it, it reminds me of a movie that I have seen recently "Moon" staring Sam Rockwell & Kevin Spacey

Love the Mega sized photos!

I had to download them to have a proper look. Plus the page hadn't fully loaded up by the time I got to the bottom of the thread!

Want to know something more?

Schroter's Valley was the planned site for the cancelled Apollo 18 mission...

Nice coincidences...

I love anomaly pics!

Is it just me or does it look like some sort or track or road is leading up to the "structure"

I say structure because I don't know what it is. It does look highly out of place and the tracks or whatever those are make me wonder as well.

I will have to look at the pics on my own

As always Zorgon awesome thread!

Am I the only one that was hoping to see a "Made in China" sticker or something? Not trying to take away from the topic, but, I would have laughed pretty hard.

Well if it is, it's not one of ours that are listed

Exuberant1 did a sketch... I am sure he will be here shortly

Reminds me of this one from the old Lunar Orbiter images LO-5-168-H2

The bright object is about the size of a house and it too has those odd tracks

If that is a rover, wouldent it make a bigger trace? I mean, where did it come from? What I have been told, is that the traces will be there until disturbed.

So has the rover landed on that rocky ground beneath it? and then begin to harvest, stone, or whatever they want to do with it

My best guess is that the image shows a boulder that was dislodged and tumbled a bit, leaving an odd trail in the fine, loose soil of the lunar surface.

Cool image though!

This is bar-none the best anomaly pic I've ever seen. It almost looks as though it has "tumble" into place leaving a trail behind, BUT there are no impact markings. Is it a rover of some kind? If so, they must have placed it there from the air because there are also no landing markings. I'm extremely curious about this one. Great find!!

I was wondering this as well. They are very consistent, so I assume the "divergences" are just due to how the "rover" moves. I can't think of why this would happen though. Maybe for taking consistent samples? Just my first thought. Anyone else have some input about this? Has anyone seen tracks like these before? S+F
