Nope, not at all (I found Florida's specific definition of "neglect"):

'Neglect' occurs when a child is deprived of, or is allowed to be deprived of, necessary food, clothing, shelter, or medical treatment or a child is permitted to live in an environment when such deprivation or environment causes a child's physical, mental, or emotional health to be significantly impaired or to be in danger of being significantly impaired.

Source

Key words in there are "to be in danger of" in the last line. Leaving infants unattended in public places constitutes danger to their physical health in many ways.

"to be in danger of"

holy rusted metal batman. that's so grey, they could take your kids away for nearly anything, like having trouble paying your bills (you might run out of money to buy food). at least the people who enforce these laws, tend to be compassionate and logical, otherwise, that's some seriously dangerous grey area.

It definitely is a lot of power, but remember: states don't have big concentration camps where they send kids to be used as labor or profit from them or something, so they really don't want to add to their already-stressed social services load and horribly inadequate foster care system. They [usually] only take kids away when they really feel like possibly ending up in a "facility" or crappy foster home [on the tax dollar] and then eventually becoming part of the problem with society is worth it. They don't take kids away a la 1984----there's nowhere to send them.

well my one run in with them, was positive. i mean, she could've raised the roof that my son had taken off his clothes and run down the street naked. i remember taking him to the doc, who said i needed to get him off sugar, cause he was too full of energy. lol i did several steps better, i put him in karate. now he's a third degree black belt and a qualified sensei.

put that energy to good use, i did! lol

anyway, she was very kind and understanding and we solved the escape aritst problem right away. had the police been called instead of the child protective folks, could've turned out worse, i suppose. although maybe not back then. this was over 20 years ago, in utah (and we weren't mormons). lol

Forget terrorists....
For these kind of "parents" they should use waterboarding.
It makes my skin crawl when I hear things like this or about abusive parents.
Those aren't humans in my book and don't deserve to be treated like one to be honest.

I think you would have probably gotten the same reaction (if not an even more minor one) from a cop, because they deal with kids running out of the house and whatnot all the time, seriously. You're totally not in a small minority of parents who have had a least one kid be able to go bolting out of the house down the street at least once. Kids are insane, they have no sense of seeing-around-corners, so they do stupid stuff like that all the time! I've heard stories of wandering kids from great parents that would make your skin crawl. It's amazing more of them don't die.

Really? I mean, I get the sentiment of not being able to understand how parents can be so stupid and wishing they get hard justice for their idiocy, but this is stupid neglect. Potentially fatal neglect, but neglect caused by a combination of stupidity and carelessness. She deserves to be tortured for being stupid and a bad parent? That's a bit harsh. I think most people would only reserve that for rapists and horrible murderers, if anyone at all.

She's an idiot for leaving her kid, but the cops went too far. Even if she needed zapping, im sure once would of been enough

Wow, what is humanity coming to these days? I take my daughter with me everywhere I go. If she couldn't be responsible, she should of given that poor child up for adoption. No one deserves a stupid mother like her.

child abuse, resisting arrest and battery of a police officer

resisting arrest TAZE!

battery of a police officer TAZE!

I fail to see the issue outside of a crap piece of meat wanting to be labeled a "parent"

All what ifs.

Lets not to anything because what if something happens.

All what ifs. That's the problem with competence and the decline of society. Nobody plays chess. It's always about the next move. A majority of societies unthought of "what ifs" have become actual horrors in realities which have altered muylitple peoples lives, not just their own because of their ignorant actions.

And just because a person can make kids doesn't make them a good parent. How many people are running around who are nothing more than sperm donors? It's obvious that from your stance and the fact that you would actually side on the debate of such an act explains enough about your character to me to understand why society is in such dire situations these days. There are plenty of "GENIUS'" w/out a shred of common sense.

1)Your child can choke
2)Your child can be kidnapped or taken while your car is stolen
3)Your child can put the car in gear and roll into traffic or a lake or a wall with no seatbelt
4)Your child can get out of the car and wander off

These are just off the top of my head. The first two apply to even infants.

A woman with that much disregard for her child's safety should not have one...at all, ever. It's people like that who raise their kids to be horrible parents, then those kids raise their kids like that and the circle goes on and on. Parents like that are one of the main problems with our society in my opinion. At the risk of sounding like some kind of Nazi I think there are people who should be sterilized for the good of society.

All of thse could happen when a parent is with their child. I think the thing here is, we all know she's a f**king mong when it comes to kids, but she's learning. When i was a bairn, i fell out of trees, smashed my face on the radiator and numerous other things. Sometimes my mam was there sometimes not. Sometimes stuff happens, and other times it doesnt.
I know the mother done wrong, cos it was out in public with gods knows who's about, but also dont forget the police went way too far, and that is a sign of things to come, and more and more the offences will be unjustified for that kind of action.
