Some of the earliest English-speaking colonists in America were ill-tempered, puritanical religious extremists who wore belt buckles on their heads and publicly whipped people who danced.

The general culture hasn't changed all that much since the seventeenth century, really. Just the fashion sense.

A star for ya, TheWalkingFox. I agree. The mentality
in the USA is still quite puritanical.

While you were laughing at America. I was reading about Belgian law. I am assuming that this is where you live from the beer remark. I found some interesting articles in your constitution. Mainly this.

Articles 19 to 21 guarantee the freedom of religion. Article 19 protects the freedom of religion and the right to exercise it publicly. It also guarantees the freedom of speech by stipulating that everyone has the right to express his or her opinion freely. However, Article 19 also determines that abuses of these freedoms can be punished, a principle which is controversially applied in the Belgian Holocaust denial law, which made it an offence to publicly "deny, minimise, justify or approve of the genocide committed by the German National Socialist regime during the Second World War

en.wikipedia.org...

It seems that someone is "brain washed" by their own media propaganda. Let me point that out again for you.

Keep on a laughing there fella. I did some research into your "rights" there is more in the fine print if you read it. Or is this all you read about.

nice girl, Taylor Corley, alias Taylor Stone, cheerleader, Mississippi State University, has to quit her job because of being in Playboy

To tell you the truth I live in The U.S. and I have never heard of this young lady. So carry on in your own little world of denial. These articles are made to keep your mind off of the real issues. It looks like it is working well in your country.

The US has laws against libel, slander, incitement, intimidation, and perjury. These are "abuses of free speech." Do try to keep up, bucklehead.

I am aware of this. I was only pointing out to the op that maybe if he/she would spend more time..............

Oh the hell with it. I took the time to research some info. You are obviously mad at something to stoop to call me a bucklehead. What it that anyway?

I came on the op's thread to maybe have a good debate with data to back it up. You are rude and awfully trollish. This is the remark you leave? Really........

I could say publicly that your a murderer without proof or ruin your career by falsely testifying that you stole from your job. I should be able to incite a mob of people to kill someone or intimidate a person though words to give up the deed to their house lol grow up there has to be some rules to it

This post is so ignorant, and stupid, that it doesn't deserve a proper reply. Specially coming from a guy living in an artificially created "country", that can't even form a government; a "country" responsible for the most brutal genocide in African History. A "country" that has no actual sovereignty, and that the majority of the population wants to disband...

What a truly sad, and perverted, example of "Euro-Trash" ignorance, and stupidity...

I'am not against capitalism i do not believe it is a flawed system. i think it has taken a very long time for people to destroy what it first stood for and should stand for. Ps i don't take the fact that my countries founding principles are being crapped on funny in anyway. Too many people have died to protect those rights or risked their lives to give me that right and for that they deserve my respect. So you can see why this isn't a laughing matter. I think most of my country is waking up to the jingoistic "you might want to look that word up" nature of our government as a tool to get only the elite richer this isn't what our country stands for and it is being corrupted. So when you mock our country for its laws without knowing what the true intent was behind it, it makes people like me want kick you teeth in. But hey I'm not violent so i will just tell you off.

right man, right, some problems here also !
but here we do not like people denying historical truth ....
because we really know about fascism ....
so, because not all 100 % of people are clever to understand history and truth it's better to defend ourselves against talking about not-historical blabla !
you know, denying history is denying humanity !
too much manipulation of history is bad for everybody ! so, yes, some circuitbreakers are sometimes necessary to protect history from falsification .....

If you where a bit more careful, or knowledgeable, you would see I'm posting from Lisbon/Sintra, Portugal. So, I am not "up There". To you, I am "down here"...I also know your "lovely" country, and most of Europe, Asia, and North America...

As for your political views: we would only have the same enemies if I where to become my own enemy...

I'm not a couch-potato, in the habit of giving opinions about things I know nothing about

The world is an international stage these days matey, ATS is certainly international.

Simply because someone is not a citizen of a country, does not mean they cannot pass comment or express opinion about that country.

You never passed comment or opinion, positive or negative about any other country on Earth then?

Maybe you need to reign the hypocrisy/xenophobia in a bit? What do you reckon?

you may walk around with lots of guns all over your body to TRY to feel secure

Hmmm true.

When are we going to see the US authorities arrest that dumb cow Palin and the others that were inciting people to commit murder against Julian Assange, i wonder?

They may have the laws, but of course they are only effective if they are enforced...Palin hasn't been arrested as far as i can tell, or even officially questioned in relation to her comments (it's not just her either), nor has anyone else who openly called for Assange to be killed.
