Normally when I sleep I do not remember any of my dreams when I wake up. However, this time may have been different. I took a nice afternoon nap today for about a total of about 60 minutes. When I finally woke up, I didn't really wake up.

Apparently I was in some sort of sleep paralysis -- I couldn't move physically. But at the same time I could move, if only mentally. When I tried to move physically nothing worked, but when I tried to move mentally, I felt -- in some sense -- a movement.

When I got to the point where I felt I was going to mentally move out of my chest, my eyes went hay-wire. I couldn't see much anymore but flashes of light and gray, with the mental sensation of something (an entity or force) beating (in a physical but nonphysical way) me back into myself.

A few moments later I was fully awake and could move. All-in-all, I thought this was interesting, exciting, and a little bit scary. I just wanted to share my experience and possibly get some feedback.

Sounds to me like you were approaching astral projection or an OOBE. Nothing to be scared of, and definitely fun when achieved.

Well, the beating was the scary pary. Wouldn't you find it a little odd for an entity or force of some kind literally beat you back into your body?

Maybe the beating was your own subconscious fear of the experience.

Yep, the beating doesn't necessarily have to be an entity.
