With the news of the nearly 28,000 white Pelicans who have dissapeared from ND, now brown California Pelicans are washing up on local shores, weak, dehydrated and near death. More than 100 of the brown pelicans have appeared in this condition and have been brought to be treated by specialists.

Sick Birds Washing Ashore Puzzle Avian Experts
So far, bird experts are unable to explain the phenomenon.

"I don't have a clue," said Jim Peugh, chairman of the conservation committee of the local Audubon chapter.

"They're acting as if they're starving," St. Leger said.

While some outbreaks of avian sickness or depletion can be anticipated by changes in weather or fishing patterns, there has been no warning that the pelican population was being threatened, officials said, until the sickly juveniles started arriving.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Ten of the pelicans were nursed back to health but more keep arriving each day as they are found. Over harvesting of fish had been a problem over a decade ago, since it reduced several sources of food for the pelicans, but efforts by the Department of Fish and Game are thought to have brought the population of fish back up according to the article. According to St. Leger this situation is very unusual.

Is it possible that this has also something to do with the same thing that is happening to pelicans in ND and Arizona? Perhaps this has nothing to do with the cause, but the birds that have been found in California are young, just like the small amount of pelicans that are left in ND are young ones.

Biologists question pelicans' disappearance
A couple of hundred "loafers," or pelicans not yet of breeding age, remain at prairie potholes in the Chase Lake area, Erickson said.

Perhaps the mature pelicans know something that the young ones have not learnt about, we can only speculate, but it seems that the young ones are the ones being affected in both cases.

This scares me way more than any news about terror attacks or WMDs. Nature knows when something is wrong, and these pelicans are aware of something we aren't. We need brainstorming sessions and research done on this. I'm up for it, who's with me?

This scares me too. Other incidents too, like those pelicans crashing on asphalt they've seemingly mistaken for water, and the anomaly of the 28000 white pelicans en masse deserting their nests in North Dakota. Someone on that thread speculated that perhaps this is related to a near future natural disaster emanating from Yellowstone.

It appears that a research project is definitely needed here.

I'll get started and post whatever I find when I have it all together. Probably sometime tomorrow.

We have been working on getting this research project accepted, but I am still waiting to hear from the member that asked for the research. As soon as the member gets back to us we will start posting what we have found. I would ask the member about it if you want when he responds back. i don't think he would say no if you want to join the team, but he was the first one to put this as a research project, so we have to ask him. I send him a u2u 4 hours ago or so. i am certain by tomorrow or the day after he will respond.

I'd like to be involved, if there's room for one more

I'll ask him.
But I don't see why he would say no.

Could this be due to some kind of govnt bio/chem testing on the birds?

I have no idea if this is related, but there's a colony of Heron that have completely disappeared sometime in the past week or two. Here's the video related to the story.Heron colony vanishes into thin air. This is kinda spooky.

I remember reading on ATS that there were many birds leaving their nests in Florida near the Everglades I think. But, I can't find the the link for it. If the member in the Research project is still looking for people, I would be interested too.

On over 28,000 birds? I don't think so. I could be wrong thou.
To me this seems to be something else.

Man, this really is scary... there was a thread about animals not drinking water and stuff like that (they said the pelicans were dehydrated... an animal will usually not eat when it is dehydrated):

i can't help to think about the magnetic fields the birds uses to navigate.
i have a distinct feeling that the deterioration or reversal of the earths magnetic field is related to these events. that would explain a lot. can anyone confirm on comparisations between compassheadings and gpsdata. if it is way off then.......

In the recent movie The Core the earth's magnetic field had a weird effect on birds, but I don't know if it has any scientific basis or not.

scientifically speeking : birds uses the polarity of the earths magnetic field to navigate when migrating. (have not seen "the core" yet). i learned this in shool several years ago.

BTW this could also have something to do, or maybe not, with the 10,000 birds that dropped dead in China in 2003 I believe, let me see if i can find a link to that. Actually it was in February 2004 here is an excerpt to the article. I kind of doubt that 10,000 birds would all die from bird flu at the same time and drop from the sky like rain, as the article says.

10,000 birds die mysteriously in China, drop like "rain" from sky
BEIJING, Feb 5 (AFP) - More than 10,000 birds died mysteriously in eastern China's Jiangsu province, dropping like rain from the sky, state media reported Thursday.

Farmers and other witnesses in Sangongdian village in Taizhou city saw flocks of bramble finch suddenly fall from the sky Tuesday, the Beijing Youth Daily said.

Most of the birds were dead when they hit the ground and some were injured, it said. The birds look like sparrows and are small in size.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Perhaps it does have something to do with what has been happening to the Pelicans and other animals in the U.S. recently. In the report it is said that since the birds died while in flight, that it must have been something from either contamination in their food, water, or their environment.

OHHHHHH! Emphinay (sp?)!!

Could this be some kind of avian flu virus? If it is, hopefully it will no be spreading. I dunno, could this be possible?

They haven't reported yet that their deaths were because of avian flu. China has reported, reluctantly and with the help of a Chinese doctor who is under custody with others now for uncovering the Chinese government coverup of bird flu, that over 49,000 birds have died from bird flu. But those 10,000 are not included as dying from bird flu. Also 10,000 birds at the same time falling from the sky dead or dying from bird flu?.... That sounds more as if they perhaps couldn't breathe when they were flying, there was perhaps some form of high radiation, or as it is stated in the article the food, water or environment was contaminated.

Since birds use the magnetic field to navigate(2 ions in their brains line up with mag. field) I would tend to say that all of these incidents seem to point to this area. Birds from vary different geographic locations are all acting very strangely. Maybe they're starving because they can't find their food supplies as a result of their navigation abilities being affected. Just a supposition on my part.

Very strange indeed and the movie "The COre" did cover this. Kind of a stupid movie but the special effects on how the Earth would act during a period of severe geo-magnetic disturbances is great.

Is it a possibility that the solar flares are interfering with the Earth's magnetic field?
therefore, causing the birds weird actions.
