In my opinion 2012 is nothing but a belief at this time as there is no proof for or against it!

Who is to say it will happen?
Who is to say it wont?

All we can do is believe either or!

To laugh at people who believe it will happen is wrong and also the same goes for people who dont believe it will happen! Until there is concrete 100% percent evidence we cannot judge anyone on there theorys or beliefs!

Me personally i believe it could happen, not so much that it defo will but that it CAN! Also the same thing could happen tommorow, five minutes from now or in twenty damn seconds! The fact is its only a theory as of now, no proof! So stop hating each other for believing certain things!!!

Peace and love to ya all

Exactly, there really is no evidence to say it won't, and not enough conclusive evidence to say it will. Only time will tell, however, 2012 is really irrelevant in the scheme of things. We all know that through history and geological evidence, the earth goes through cycles and encounters natural events that impede it's equilibrium. Something will happen, whether it be a magnetic pole reversal, Yellowstone, massive solar storms, or the fact that there is definitely a giant asteroid out there somewhere with Earth's name written all over it; these things are inevitable, and it's just a matter of when based on our perception of time. History has proved that our planet has suffered some massive blows, but not enough to achieve extinction. Although, if a third of the worlds population and evolved technologies are wiped out, it's back to the drawing board and life as we know it must go though another rebuilding period. Let's just hope our generation didn't get the short straw..but why would we be so ignorant and stubborn to think that it can't happen in our lifetime; it ultimately has to occur at some point, therefore arrogance is really not the best way to anticipate such an event.

That is because you do not know the back story.
I don't think you are aware why people think something might occur.
This isn't like Y2K.

I am not saying anything is going to happen out of the ordinary either but if it doesn't that would be almost MORE unusual considering how many converging though unrelated peoples set their ancestry clocks to start going off... for something... at around this time.

Sorry to say, but their is a lot of evidence. However, their will be no epic ending or end of times involved with it. Take all prophecies and whatever was written about the past and throw it out the window.
Fact, we enter a new age in 2012.
Fact, the ages represent change, not the end.

As we pass closer to the Galactic plane, the magnetic gravitational forces represented wreak havoc on our system of planets. The whole system is affected. The forces pull and contract on the planets like a rubber ball. causing many magnetic and gravitational anomalies. It affect the sun, increasing solar storms and solar bursts.

What you can plan on seeing is. An increase in crazy weather. Increase in earthquakes, some small, some large. An increase in solar flares and activity. These solar flares have the potential to knock out our entire electrical grid. Michio Kaku publicly said, on the world news, we need to prepare for this. The solution is affordable and simple. This phenomena, increases activity and heats up all planets. Our planet is not alone. Could cause a pole shift as well.

This is not magic or myth. Its a fact of life. Its a cycle that's been happening before man was ever a thought. Its something man has lived through before, and will live through again. Technology, is where we will feel the effects the most.

Expect to see changes in the planet, but don't quit your job just yet ....

Agreed. I'm hedging my bets. I am prepared for a survivable event, only because I don't know what may or may not happen. If a catastrophic event occurs, been a wild but fun ride. I am also planning 2 parties.
One on Dec. 20, 2012, and the other on Dec. 22, 2012. Hope I get to enjoy the one on Dec. 22, 2012. See ya on the other side!

hahaha i have exactly the same plan on the two parties
hopefully ill be rocking out on the 22nd
time is a great story teller so we shall see what events may or may not occur

I think you've misunderstood a few things.

Fact, we enter a new age in 2012.
Fact, the ages represent change, not the end.

Sure, it's a new baktun for the Mayan Long-Count. The relevance to anyone who doesn't study Mayan history of observe Mayan cultural practices is essentially nil, save for discussions like this.

As we pass closer to the Galactic plane,

Our solar system is nowhere near the galactic plane and is currently moving away from it.

the magnetic gravitational forces represented wreak havoc on our system of planets. The whole system is affected. The forces pull and contract on the planets like a rubber ball. causing many magnetic and gravitational anomalies. It affect the sun, increasing solar storms and solar bursts.

Utterly false. The only gravitational effect of passing through the galactic plane might be the dislodging of materials in denser dust clouds, which might create a higher chance of comet and asteroid impacts. There would be no detectable direct effect on the planets as you describe, because the forces are far too weak at those distances to accomplish to such amazing feats, per the inverse square law.

What you can plan on seeing is. An increase in crazy weather.

Possibly, but not because of the galactic plane. Climate change, maybe.

Increase in earthquakes, some small, some large.

Baseless assertion. Tectonic activity is well within expected levels for the last century. Averages, by definition, will see above half of the values below the mean and half above it.

An increase in solar flares and activity.

Probably, but again not due to the galactic plane. The Sun is on a roughly 22-year cycle of polarity changes, and about every 11 years we approach a new Solar Maximum, which gives us an increased chance of solar storms and the resultant geomagnetic events when charged solar particles collide with our magnetosphere. This is routine. The upcoming maximum is currently projected for the spring of 2013, and NOAA maintains that this cycle "will be below average in intensity, with a maximum sunspot number of 90."

These solar flares have the potential to knock out our entire electrical grid.

Very, very unlikely. Too much focus on the Sun these days with a veritable fleet of satellites, too much warning available to utility companies. It is possible to see localized outages in some areas. Ultimately, it will depend on the reliability and response time of specific providers. Some areas might fare worse than others.

Michio Kaku publicly said, on the world news, we need to prepare for this.

Michio Kaku is a brilliant man and gives good advice that we should have a contingency plan for geomagnetic storms, but he is not a heliophysicist, and his appearances on news programs have been more hysterical than factual at times. Also, one of his original appearances on FOX was released prior to latest NOAA forecast.

This phenomena, increases activity and heats up all planets. Our planet is not alone. Could cause a pole shift as well.

Solar maximums do not cause any appreciable increase in temperature, nor do they cause "pole shifts." In fact, average temperatures on Earth have continued to climb even as sunspot activity has decreased.

The few bodies in the Solar System thought to be warming are attributable to:

1. seasonal changes (e.g. 1 Saturn year is equal to 3 Earth decades);
2. lack of data (e.g. we knew almost nothing about Mars' climte prior to the 1970s);
3. expected extreme variations (e.g. Uranus rotates on a 98° tilt and take 84 Earth years to complete an orbit);
4. models without observation (e.g. Jupiter has not been observed to be warming, but warming was predicted by a climate model that considered storm activity affecting the planet's thermodynamics).

Even without considering any other information, how can the Sun explain warming planets when solar output has diminished over the last 50 years?

This is not magic or myth. Its a fact of life.

Unfortunately, it looks like you've latched onto a fair number of myths.

Its a cycle that's been happening before man was ever a thought. Its something man has lived through before, and will live through again. Technology, is where we will feel the effects the most.

This much is true.

2012 is definitely going to happen. I will bet on that. It will follow 2011 and precede 2013. Look it up, it's in the calendars.

Wait, we're talking about 2012: Some world changing thing? Oh, well um, yeah I use to be into it but the older I get, and the more I look into stuff, the more disenchanted I get with it.

No, there is not enough evidence. Yeah, sure we get the people saying this and that to sell books, but if you actually look at the truth, then nothing will happen. It really bugs me that people really believe this is going to happen. When the day comes, and nothing happens, i can imagine how depressed they will be, but im betting the same people will believe the predictions that come after that.

Finally some sanity! The 2012 forum should be more like sunk works because its all speculation.

I don't know how many times ive tried to say I cant prove it to people because it hasn't happened yet. For the record I am what you would call a believer in "end times" transitions but not in 2012, I don't know when this cycle end and transition will take place.

Its kinda like the silly athiest vs. believer debates that always rage over the boards. Neither side can actually prove their point and are both as bad as each other.

people like UndeadDinosaur are just as bad as the people who swear it's going to happen...futile argument...I often wonder why posters like UndeadDinosaur are so vehement about it not being true...no one knows either way.

Yeah the old "Nothing is going to happen in 2012" line gets used a lot around here with way too much certainty. I think to myself, how did they get their ability to see into the future? Forecasting off of the current world state it would seem we're in for tumultuous times. The signs of all the end times prophecies seem to be coming true, and million maybe billions of peoples intuitively feel it coming...

If I were a weather man and had to forecast I'd say we're in for apocalypse considering all the signs, in fact going by the actual definition of the word we are already in the apocalypse as we see the truth being revealed all round us and an awakening taking place.

More than anything, I intuitively just sense something really big on the horizon, and my intuition has never been wrong before. Its more of a personal knowing that unfortunately cant be shared to others as proof.

Thanks for the post OP - I gave you a star.

I think this needs to be said.

There can be no absolute proof, but IMO its looking likely that something is coming down the line.

UndeadDinosaur's posts are well reasoned and clearly stated. His argument is very much unlike the believer-atheist argument. His arguments are base don what can be seen and studied and measured rather than the unknowable position of the believer or atheist.

No one knows? That's ridiculous. There are many 2012 claims that are demonstrably false such as solar flares being able to flip the world upside down. Or the claim of an unknown planet approaching the Earth. These are asinine claims that are easily shown to be impossible.

To claim that no one knows really means that the person writing the post does not know.

I completely doubt that your intuition has never been wrong before. Intuition is often wrong.

A good example of how people's intuition fails them is the idea that jumping in a falling elevator may protect them because if they are not on the elevator floor at impact they will be spared the impact. Another claim is the "being thrown clear of an accident" excuse for not wearing a seat restraint in a car.

There can be no absolute proof

Sure there can for some aspects of the 2012 claims. There are so many claims and they are so widespread and the claims cover so many varied phenomena that there are lots of issues where the claims can be absolutely proved false.
1. Nibiru is demonstrably false
2. Solar flares flipping the Earth is demonstrably false
3. The existence of any Mayan prophecies associated with the long count calendar is demonstrably false
4. A 3600 year cycle of destruction is demonstrably false
5. An increase in earthquakes is demonstrably false
6. An increase in volcanism is demonstrably false

This is a starter list. I'm sure it can be expanded to cover more 100% false claims and predictions.

so are you saying you can see into the future...that you know, or someone else knows what is going to happen?
talk about arrogance...admit it, you cant say for sure either way...im happy to admit it

To me that is laughable...a joke right?...no one knows what is coming either way, that is my point. theres no argument to be had here sterio, none. it's a point of fact that you cant see into the future, no one can with absolute certainty therefore no one can say exactly what is going to happen...like I have said before, FUTILE ARGUMENT

Your point is wrong. People can know what is going to happen tomorrow with certainty.

This claim that people can't know the future is an utter failure. It screams a personal lack of understanding. There is a huge difference between seeing into the future and knowing what is going to happen.

Your argument simply expresses your personal lack of knowledge.

Here is you expressing your personal lack of knowledge - nothing more, nothing less.

no one can with absolute certainty therefore no one can say exactly what is going to happen

Examples of 2012 claims that are a certainty:

    1. No new planet can enter the orbits of the known planets in 2012. That's a certainty. The hoax claim of Nibiru is a failure. That's a certainty.
    2. No solar flare will flip the Earth upside down as claimed by some 2012 hoaxers. That's a certainty. That can't happen.

like I said no argument here, you cant predict the future other than the obvious things such as the movement of the tides or the sun

your argument makes no sense and is pointless, utterly pointless, I will leave you to argue with yourself

e2a: I have never claimed any of the things you mention will happen...I simply pointed out that no one knows what is going to happen either way, it's as simple as that. Im not saying thosae will happen, but Im not 100% certain they wont either, Surely your not going to argue with that?...no hold on of course you will, you cant help yourself
