Ashcroft pushing Patriot Act extension

WASHINGTON - Attorney General John Ashcroft launched another defense of the USA Patriot Act yesterday, echoing President Bush's claims that the law that gave federal agents more latitude to spy on U.S. citizens and foreigners has made Americans safer.

During a news conference on Capitol Hill, Ashcroft waved a Justice Department report he said proved the law's most controversial provisions should be renewed before they expire in December 2005. He said the law has led to the arrest of suspected child pornographers and computer hackers.

Can someone tell me how child pornography is related to terrorism? I don't approve of child pornography but what in the hell does it have to do with terrorism? The Patriot Act is out to get us, not terrorist.

I totally agree...

I do know it has made us safer, but if there is going to be more attacks on us and they don't now when or how, then it's not really doing it job...

If they were really concerned about terrorism they would be using that law for Immigrants , not us citizens...

There is a big difference, and by the sounds of it, child pornography and hackers don't really fall into the fight against terrorism... I shouldn't say don't really, I should say absolutely positively don't fall into that ...

Exactly! No wonder we're getting reports from the government about terrorist cells here in the United States. We're too busy scouting out those child pornographers and not concentrating on keeping the terrorist cells out. What is this world coming to!?

Not a damn thing. Asscroft is obsessed with sex. Besides, it's about consolidating as much power as they possibly can. And it's way beyond what is needed.
