This is really hilarious. This person is talking about being a christian, what is appropriate.....And is going to charge a cover charge for her guests at her wedding. This is the sole reason why i stopped practicing religion years ago. These people are so far gone.

Bernard should run like hell.... no offense... I'm signing my divorce papers today so I'm just in that kind of mood.

So you want your wedding guests to pay a cover charge eh? Will there be live music? dancing? a buffet? and maybe even an opportunity to throw stuff at your head?... Hell I'd pay for that for sure....

Congratualtions BTW....

If you can't afford 'em all, don't invite 'em all. There's absolutely no shame in that.

I would never pay to go to someone else's wedding. Most people probably don't want to be there anyway, they just feel obligated.

Peace

There is no ifs, ands, or buts about this. As you can see everyone here agrees that charging or asking for donations would be incredibly rude. It seems you don't want to take no as an answer though. So I guess that being said... Do whatever you want.

Peace,

AS

Let me break it down.

You invite people. They come and usually bring presents or cash. If you provide dinner at the reception, they usually increase their giving to cover the costs to you. If you provide an open bar, you'll make a crap-load if you do a dollar dance (which is also tacky, but a nice money maker).

Got it? There is no other answer. There is NEVER a cover-charge at a wedding.

Not one flag all the way to page 3. I guess "survey says" has given you ATS's opinion...
SOME weddings will supply wine on the table and a cash bar. But charge? I have never heard of that. Ever.
And I was in restaraunt business for over 30 years....NO free booze AND charge a dinner cover?
Put that in your invitations and see how many RSVP's come back....DECLINED..
Funny though...
Awww heck....Put up the stripper pole, and send me pics of the strippers with the invite.
Maybe I'll come.

And welcome to ATS.

Here is what you do.Dont charge anyone at the door. You set up a roullete wheel at the reception.Hire a skilled dealer for the game.Everyone will be so drunk, they will be betting their asses off.You should make big money. If you really want to rake in the cash, set up a small dancestage with a few strippers and a pole, make sure they are real hotties.Make a deal with them to split the profits.Couchdances extra,of course.Good luck and have a beautiful wedding.

considering this is a religious christian wedding i do not consider that very appropriate

It really does not matter how you rationalize it to yourself - it is going to be considered rude by the majority of people.

I've done about 30-35 weddings as a photographer and I can honestly say I've never even heard of anyone trying to charge. What I have seen is people set up a full bar and hire a bartender and then hand out drink tickets, so each guest only gets 2-3 tickets to get them started... if they wish to keep drinking they can buy from the bar. Anything other than that would be pretty rude, Christian or not. (I'd say 2/3 of the weddings I've done are Christian, across the US West Coast).

If you can't afford it don't do it so expensive, and don't expect others to finance your wedding - most people don't like going to weddings, it feels like a burden for most, especially guys. Having them pay would be a sure way to give them a reason to avoid the next dozen weddings simply based on the experience of yours.

Hope that helps,

Khar

If I was invited to a wedding and asked for money at the door, I would give it.

However, I would be so uncomfortable and embarrassed, I doubt if I could ever look the couple in the eye again.

If you can't afford a wedding, don't have one. Elope, or something.
