Texas Teens Killed in Mexico Triple Homicide

www.msnbc.msn.com

Updated 2/8/2011 4:30:25 AM ET 2011-02-08T09:30:25

"CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico — Three teenage boys were shot to death in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez, at least two of them U.S. citizens and high school students in Texas, authorities said Monday.

The boys were killed at 4:22 p.m. Saturday while looking at cars in a dealership in the city across the border from El Paso, Texas, Chihuahua prosecutors' spokesman Arturo Sandoval said. One was found inside a white Jeep Cherokee and ...."

The article asks:

'How do you make sense of this meaningless tragedy?'

and answers:

"Hopefully this can really empower us to make a positive change in the border community because their deaths will have no meaning otherwise."

All persons are just pawns to the drug cartels, to be used or exploited as they deem fit.

I am sure that they are sending some kind of message again with these killings....and it's all the more reason they need to be labeled as terrorists.......NOW.

I hate to be the "downer", but what the hell were high school kids doing in Juarez?

That's just ridiculous. I wouldn't cross into Mexico for anything. Why would the parents let their kids go over?

This is sad and just adds another tally on the board as to why you need to avoid Mexico, but at the same time this should have never happened. If high schoolers can't drink, smoke, go to strip clubs then they have absolutely no business in mexico.

How many more American citizens must be slain before the government steps in and does something about it...

These kids went into Mexico...what should our government do about that exactly???

If American citizens don't want to be killed in Mexico...don't go to Mexico...seems simple enough.

its a sad day when these kind of stories are just a simple part of our daily news stories, and how our newspapers wouldnt be complete without a fresh story like this every day,
society really has gone down hill with all this violence

What can they do about this? Mexico is another country and we have things called jurisdictions.

If you wanted to end the majority of the violence without firing a shot, just legalize drugs. The US has a market that wants them, and that's not going to change.

Unfortunatly, the majority in this country don't want that. They preach about "smaller government", but deep down love the nanny state. They want to have freedom, but don't believe in personal responsibility.

If you want to stop the violence, legalize drugs. That's all you can do. You can kill every single member of every cartel in mexico, and within a week another person will step up and fill the shoes of said cartel member. You can't "kill em all" in this situation, as much as this populace would like to believe.

Well they were at a car dealership. Perhaps they were looking to buy a car? I know plenty of people who go abroad to buy thier cars (simply because the bloody UK government are a bunch of effluent sucking thieves and it costs us so damned much here its ridiculous) from France or Germany, and have them shipped across the channel to England. Of course with the Mexico border, you could just drive across , so its simpler.
For all we know these kids could have been on a rite of passage, thier first motorcar purchase. Pretty crap way to begin a motoring carreer though.

And pretty dumb if you ask me. I live in Austin, Texas and my grandparents live in El Paso. Rule #1, don't go to Mexico.

A right of passage to Mexico these days is plain stupid. That's the truth. Would these parents send their kids to Iraq? Doubtful, even though Iraq is technically "safer".

I hate reading stories like this, it is terribly sad and totally preventable if the American government had some balls. My brother is half Mexican and his sister was kidnapped in Texas, taken over the border, raped and killed. How many more people have to lose their lives before our government decides to do something about it?

Try and cross the border illegally into Russia, and see what happens when you get caught! People like Medvedev and Putin may be overpowered, BUT I have never felt so safe in my life because criminals have no rights here and everyone knows what happens once you cross that line into crime. And crossing the border illegally is a HUGE crime in any other country.

Was waiting for someone to say something like this.

You take a long deep look at any latin-america country, and you tell me they don't have CIA hands meddling in their business. We drone strike terrorist in Pakistan, yet Pakistan doesn't give us the permission to do so. So why not do what we've always done and send CIA agents to totally sh*t-f**k their entire operation... Don't tell me they can't do it, because these monsters (CIA) have taken down country after country, they can manage the Zeta Betas.

And even so, I would almost guarentee the Mexican government will accept any help they can get in battling this crisis.

So don't come here and say there is nothing the government can do about it, when on the contrary there is a ton they can do. They're just preoccupied finding a man who doesn't exist, in a cave in mountain-country. Or their to busy blowing up centrifuges at Bushr

Sorry, but I don't think legalizing coc aine will help very much. Maybe it will answer our border problem, but what about when there are crackheads running the streets on a coc aine-cowboy spree, and you're family gets killed domestically rather then internationally?

Its interesting that you have thrown Iraq into the mix. Have you any idea how much it would cost to ship a vehicle by air from the Arab nations to the South of the USA? A boat load !
Other than that I dont see what relavence the likelihood of a parent sending thier child there has. More to the point, who the hell gets SENT anywhere by thier parents? What, are young adults in America directionless wusses that never go or think outside the box? I dont think so ! Rule one, dont go anywhere you dont want to go. Do not be prevented from going somewhere you do want to go, unless God himself appears to you and tells you its a bad plan. Everyone else on Earth lies occasionaly , even parents.

Because of course people who live in the border town don't have any teenagers!?

I know lots of people who live there, and going to a car dealership isn't the type of activity a parent usually frowns upon.

Your logic is a bit flawed... you do know that at 18 you can die for your country, but can't drink, go into strip clubs etc right?

If you send drones to Mexico, like we do in Pakistan, there will be retaliation from the mexicans, who happen to border the US, unlike pakistan. Not only that, but I believe Pakistan has allowed us to do predetor strikes, correct? Apples and oranges.

And if you're truly scared of "crack heads" running around if you legalize coke then I've got some breaking news for you, and no not that crack and coc aine are different. The united states already has crack heads, and plenty of them. Are you afraid if we legalized coc aine you'd become a junkie???

This goes back to what I said, nanny state. People need to have personal responsibility. Besides legalizing coc aine won't mean that new users are going to be wanting coke by te droves. There's a drug that's legal called salvia, you can buy it at any head shop, and I don't know anybody other whos tried it or even wanted to.

Time to grow up USA

The Government has done nothing about the thousands of deaths due to illegal immigration. What makes anyone think they will do something about people crossing into Mexico?

I don't understand any of your responses, I'm sorry.

I do realize that 18 year olds can join the military and can't indulge in the things I listed. What's your point? Finish your thoughts please, even though I know where your going.

By the way, I think anyone at any age should be able to go to strip clubs, drink, and smoke if their family allows it. Back to personal responsibility.

I lived in El Paso for 11 years and it was really common to go to Juarez for a lot of things back then. Of course, some things have changed, but it has always been "dangerous" to go over there and it never really stopped anyone. It's really easy to say "Why go to Juarez?" until you realize that El Paso and Juarez are basically one big city so it's no different than going to the West Side or going to LA if you live in Orange County for people that live there. I left in 2002, so it was before you needed a passport to cross the southern border and what not. I don't know how different the experience is now. I do know that all this news about drug cartels and border violence is very old news for people from the region so they might not see it as terrifying as many other Americans.

Of course, none of this changes the fact that there is a major problem along the border and everything else. This was just a really non-political post by me. Just commenting on the "Why would they be in Mexico anyway" posts...

ITS CRAP LIKE THAT which allows our government to keep getting bigger and bolder. You want to change something? Get a group of a couple hundred people with guns, cross the border and start shooting the cartels. OR better yet END THE DRUG WAR.

I thought you were talking about Mexico.
You can drink, smoke, get laid and whatever else you want if you've got cash - age is not a factor.
Best reason to go to Mexico (or any other country for that matter) would be to be able do and enjoy all those things you aren't allowed to do and enjoy here in the USA.
That's exactly the kind of business all ages go to Mexico to conduct.
"You pays your money and you takes your chances" sometimes it's just a killer deal you can't pass up.
