I’m not brilliant on such matters, but I thought that your body only absorbs what it needs and that the body release what it doesn’t need through your urine.

To me it sound like a witch hunt.
It won’t be long and we will have to visit back yard herbalist and natural therapists .

Too much of ANY thing you ingest can have very bad effects on your health, including supplements, natural plants and vitamins.

I'm only replying to your post, not commenting on the OP.

I see them mention Vitamins a lot, but I see not references to Vitamins, only Natural Herbs.

And whie that sh!ts me endlessly, I doubt they will be making it illegal to buy vitamins.

Thinks like valerian, st johns wort, passiflora, etc, which fall under natural herbal remedies, they may possibly force to undergo the same regulations as medicines, but vitamins?

Either way, i give up. if this trickels down to the most strictest bloody country on the planet, Australia, I will just stop breathing... may as well, they'll ban that one day too unless they can tax me...

This does not apply to the USA, we have guns.

UK is the police-state guinea pig. I cite the CCTV cameras and the weird monarchy-thing.

If vitamins really do get outlawed, will we see revolt or complacency?

Is there a new country called USA that I have yet to be informed of?

Because you could not possibly be referring to the United States of America. The people who will accept anything and always remain complacent. Might as well not even have the second amendment here, people are so damn willing to just sign it over for a couple bread crumbs.

The "twist" in this article that relates to banning vitamins is that it's not the vitamins themselves being banned, just the vitamins that are sold with claims of curing some forms of diseases when the FDA has not verified it to be accurate.

There are about 1.4 Million records on goggle scholar for 'vitamins'. So since the FDA has not done any homework it justifies restrictions?

It's not the FDA that hasn't done their homework, but the Vitamin distributors not giving their homework to the FDA.

The FDA is the moderator here, not the researcher.

The funny point being the origional hype and now the anti rehype... There are so many issues in the world, real troubles and real people hurting.. And you all are going on about this? If you all as a whole put a fraction of this effort into doing something good the world might be a better place.. Instead its just over amped fear and blah.

Trust me, on May 11th we will all be able to buy vitamins still.. And we wont be forced to either.

I agree, your post just came across as if it was one or the other, no middle ground for those who complain.

I know we'll still be able to buy vitamins - the issue I see that has merit is the ability to buy herbs from non-chemist stores. They'd done a whacking job where I live, I can't buy SH!T unless I pay a mate over east to send me some blue lotus even, due to AQIS laws here, let alone the quality of what we can buy NOW (as opposed to years ago) in the herbal stores - this legislates it, as opposed to making it a non-compulsory requirement...

Slipper slope, the day I cannot buy herbs that have been used for millennia is the day I will really start hunting...

The OP should get a ban for posting such a silly baseless scaremongering headline.
I'm being serious. It's time sites clamped down on this sort of thing. 'Denying ignorance'? Give me a break...

VITAMINS ARE NOT GOING TO BE MADE ILLEGAL - as indeed other posters have pointed out. Frankly they are just trying to curb the quackery that exists in the vitamin industry. What - did you honestly not know that it was an industry? The LIITLE PHARMA version of BIG PHARMA? Talk about gullibility...
And yes of course you can do yourself damage and create unbalance with certain vitamins (which are just manufactured chemicals people). Not all 'vitamins' are flushed harmlessly out of the body. Just google it. A 10 year old could do the research.
Wake up.

this directive has been slowly creeping in for years, I remember reading about it in 2005.

Now they are trying to ban so many things, it really is beyond ridiculous.

Pharmacies in the UK are the least helpful places and I have found them the most arrogant, you can barely buy cough medicine without interrogation and I have heard of them refusing the silliest things.

Recently I heard a guy in boots saying he wanted something for sinus pain and was told because he was taking some other medicine they wouldn't sell him anything for it.

I tried buying hydrogen peroxide a few years ago, as a general medicine cabinet staple and was told they wouldn't because it can be used to make bombs, same with glycerin when trying to buy some from a pharmacy for making soap.

In many lands, antibiotics are available over the counter and they do just fine letting people decide for themselves. In the US it's possible to buy lactase enzyme for lactose intolerance and antibiotic cream, these things just aren't available in UK pharmacies and if you ask for anything they want reasons and will demand answers regardless of being in a public place, absolutely no respect for peoples privacy.

When certain pharmacies give prescriptions they demand the person says their address out loud in front of other people then proceed to say the contents of the prescription and how to use it. This is a blatant disregard for peoples right to privacy and they should be banned from doing it.

One of my previous jobs was front line public sector, we regularly dealt with violent people and keeping our details like address was to be kept strictly private for our own safety, try telling that to a power crazed pharmacist!

People have the right to purchase non poisonous herbal medicine, sure it should be regulated for safety, but these recent regulations look like big pharma bullying tactics, quelle surpris!

The government ruining our lives by banning products that make unproven claims? Certainly. I'm positive they intend to hurt us by banning false advertisement from various products. I'll be sure to check my multivitamin bottles and see if they still cure cancer and such in later 2011. This is almost directly related to the START ban. We're allowing objects of misuse to be banned from us, because we misuse them. Don't blame the government for the actions they're needing to take. You need only blame yourselves.
