Honestly? If you've not taken the day off yet, just go in. Call back and say that you feel better, and then time it so that you deliberately puke in the most inconvenient of ways. Keep looking chastened and repeating over and over how sorry you are.

Plus, if you go to the hospital to get checked out, and have a contagious bug, you'll bring that bug to the hospital. If you're not really really really sick, I would make sure you have juice or gingerale, chicken soup, call someone to get these things for you. Avoid dairy, get some good sleep, bring your bucket to bed. Keep your fluid levels up, the chicken soup helps with electrolyte loss.

Chances are, it could be just a stomach bug that will pass. Or a flu, which aren't usually too much to worry about.

If in a day or two, you get worse, then you'll know if you're sick enough to risk a hospital. Keep a phone close by, and make sure you have someone to check in on you through the day.

I don't call any doctors until I'm sick for about a week or more, and that hasn't happened in over 10 years now. Diseases and germs are present in hospitals, I only use them as a last resort ( and they're free up here! ).

Call around and check the web to see if there are any low income clinics in your area. Usually they charge you on a sliding fee scale, based on your income. I had to do the same thing when I had the flu. I waited till I was feeling a litle better and able to drive. I only needed a note to "return to work", not to verify that I really sick. Your employer can't determine your return to work date, ie: Tuesday, the doctor does that!

Hope you get better!

In my opinion, if you are not happy with your current job, you should commit some time to looking for a new job. That is the mistake I made with my old job, throughout the two years working it (as a part time student), I should have been looking for a better part time job, possibly more relevant to my field.

DO NOT quit your job without another job waiting for you, that is a huge mistake.

Everyday there are new jobs available so always put a couple hours at least every week to check job postings in your local paper (preferably Saturday paper), online job postings and your network (pretty much anyone you talk to within a given year). Also make sure you have an updated generic cover letter and resume but also make sure you customize them to each particular job you apply to.

If you need any tips on finding a job, I have learnt a lot about it this past year (even though I have failed so far) so feel free to U2U me or post here.

If it was me, I would stay home and get some rest.. People get sick, thats life, they need to get over it. People need to remember we work to live, not live to work. Handle your life outside work, before you go to work. You could get everyone there sick as well..

Just lay back down, get some rest.. Hope you feel better.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I can't believe people are complaining that they HAVE a job! Count yourselves lucky.

To the O.P...sitting in a hospital is not good, they are unhealthy places. If you get worse then do something about seeing a doctor, otherwise, stay at home, eat, drink, keep warm and look after yourself.
