Watching on Al Jazeera, tens of thousands of them at Tahrir Square. The whole place is filled end to end. They just finished midday prayers then began chanting for Mubaruk to leave now. Military set up checkpoints to enter the square checking IDs. During the prayers, while the islamic community prayed around the center, the other protestors of christian and other faiths formed a protective cordon around them. It's a bit awe inspiring to see.

They're saying hundreds of thousands attending with thousands more waiting to pass through checkpoints.

Hopefully it will stay peaceful and the military can keep out the Police that started the conflicts the other day.

Seems whatever scuffle there was in Alexandria was quickly quashed. They're determined to keep it peaceful.

This brought tears to my eyes.

It's incredible how extremely stressful times can bring people together and break down the barriers.
I hope they stay safe and end up with a government worthy of them.

Watching everything on tv is saddening though. People give Americans so much crap about sticking to our gun laws, but at least when SHTF we won't be stuck throwing rocks at tanks.

I'm not sure you grasp the concept of "tank." There's a very good reason why they make special rounds specifically for shooting at tanks. Unless you've got some nice DU .50 rounds laying around, pretty much anything you shoot will be about as effective as a rock.

Less, 'cause you'd be wasting good ammo.

My brothers and I (4 of us) used to have rock fights with the kids down the street. That was when I was 12.... How old are the Egyptians?

Tanks are quite indestructable.... the people inside are not. Have you ever heard of a thing called percussion? Hit a tank hard enough and those inside will bleed from the ears....

Yes, you won't be stuck throwing rocks. You will all be shooting each other in the head. There is massive unrest in egypt. Official figures are saying there is about 10 dead. Maybe unofficially it is 4 - 5 times that. That is about 50 people. The country is in turmoil and was in a state of mass paranoia during the rioting. If the egyptians had all been armed just imagine how many would be dead now. There would probably be a full scale civil war in progress.

You can keep your stupid bloody gun laws in the U.S. God help yis if society breaks down like this in the U.S. What good is a gun when everybody is just shooting each other.

Murbarek will be gone very soon. Hundreds of thousands of people protesting. No guns needed. It works.

Maybe some day Americans will mature as a society and understand guns are not a good thing.

reply to add: ...a lot. just imagen how many people will die in the us in the first night of protests and if everyone was at the protest, all the homes will be looted same as the shops. The differnce with Egypt will be like this; in the info that is spread now all the looters/thugs are connected to the (former) government. The looters in the US will be just looting for the sake of self enrichment. (get your free Bluerayplayer now, even if you haven't got el;ectricity anymore)

For what is happening in Egypt now, it is big, I think it has been pretty decent. We could see civil war, we see protest and some rioting.

Every group that wants to participate in the formation of a new democratic government has met with Murbarak except for the radical mulsims - Obama's and Soros' "progressive" pals - the Muslim Brotherhood. Few Egyptians want the fascist and brutal Muslim Brotherhood stepping into power which they will do if the government is dissolved amid chaos.

Obama has created a real mess for the US, Egypt and our other Arab allies in the Middle East because of his alliance with our jihadist enemies. We really screwed up putting a Muslim Marxist in the White House who hates America so completely. O baaaaaa ma.

LOL That's RICH! You do realize that Mubarak is a "brutal fascist" and that's why he's hated. Do you even know what fascist means? It's completely mutually exclusive with Marxism, which you claim the Muslim brotherhood is trying to institute.

I suggest you read some books, instead of just watching Glenn Beck.

I suppose it wasn't the brightest idea to rush in to a sea of people with eight horses and a camel. I wonder if they were protesters themselves or if they were authorities?

LOL that's rich. Trade one brutal dictator regime for another brutal dictating regime. That's "progress!" That's "Change!"

Try to think about complex situations beyond political slogans. If the goal is to create a democratic representative government in Egypt, why would Obama be insisting on the instillation of a Muslim Brotherhood government? Why would he not be supporting a cooling down transition period to give everyone a chance to organize and create a democratic government representative of all factions (people) in Egypt?

The Muslim Brotherhood is a minority and the majority of Egyptians do not want to be ruled by radical Muslims.

I have to disagree with you. The Muslim Brotherhood spoke to the protesters early this morning, just after sunrise, and stated that they were not interested in having a place of power in the new government. They admitted that they refused negotiation talks with the vice president, but that is because the people's demands have not been met. I think a lot of what you hear about the Brotherhood is fear-mongering. Now, if they turn around and do something different, I'll be wrong, but for now it seems they simply want to see a better life for the Egyptian people.

The people in those tanks will run out of ammo and need to open the hatch at some point, then they are just as weak. Stupid argument really. Their upper hand only lasts so long.
