AF1-

Serving the Country isn't serving the government. All the freedoms and luxuries I have, I feel I should pay back and do whatever I can to ensure that this country stays strong.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am getting really tired of the greed. Look at all the people who have immigrated here, and were proud to serve this country, versus the people who were born here who feel they have an inherant right to sit on their lazy butts and let everyone else do the dirty work.

Face it people, the world is never going to be a peaceful place. There will always be wars. This is no utopia. There are really evil people out there wanting to do alot of people a lot of harm, and I for one would like to see them weeded out.

It's good thing that China is such a great place, with Tienaman square massacres and all. It must be SWELL having a second child and having to kill it in China. What a GREAT place you live in. GET A CLUE

Too often we forget the sole reason for government. To protect life and property. While it would not be possible to do this without human bodies to do the protecting, lets not forget that the gov. is THE PEOPLE. If you have to be forceed into service by the gov., the gov. is no longer you.

How can THE PEOPLE force THE PEOPLE to do anything?

AF1, good point.

Thats great! westpoint IS a kiddie! he is 15, and just WANTS to go to west point someday. Lets not fly off the handle here and put our foot in our mouth when correcting others. If you dont know what your talking about, dont talk. Deny ignorance, remember?

Dont use the sites tag line for own half jokes. This board is for posting discusions not cheap shots because of your opinions, If you dont have anything to really add, you shouldnt add anything. West point may be a kiddie, but he is correct in his statement of most countrys have a mandatory draft. If you would like to discuss that or anything that has to do with the topic please do.

Yes. Our economy is thriving, the living standards are improving. Do you think you have freedom here in US? You can speak, but you have no means to convey your message to the mass. In China, we can speak as well.

At least Chinese people and member of PLA do not need to die for aggression and occupation. Think about those poor boys and girls in Iraq, and think what if they are your kid or your wife/husband. If you are proud of what they are doing, you will soon get what you want.

I trust that our Government is working hard for the well being of all Chinese people by spend money to build road, dam, and powerplants, unlike US leaders like Cheney started war to benefit companies like Hurliburton, and suck the average american people.

Have you ever been in the Army? Half of the peole who volunteer don't make it through MEPS, much less boot camp.

If you asked my husband he will said the military will build character on young people he even is pushing my son to join, I am the one that is against, but the true is, I remember when he went to boot camp and it was not funny. But he made it and gave the US 23 years of his life, and two conflicts.

I just turned 18 and as I registered for the draft on www.sss.gov I was totally reassured by the home page that says

Notwithstanding recent stories in the news media and on the Internet, Selective Service is not getting ready to conduct a draft for the U.S. Armed Forces -- either with a special skills or regular draft. Rather, the Agency remains prepared to manage a draft if and when the President and the Congress so direct.

but anyways here is more info a draft conspiracy

Have you folks actually read the proposed bill HR163? If you did, maybe you would cease chattering on about "draft" and "military" service. The bill proposes "National Service." It states quite explicitly that every cititzen has a CHOISE as to what type of service that they would perform. Enough with the knee-jerk reaction already!

There are a couple of edits I would make to the proposed bill, however I am still in favor of the legislation in general.

Actually I am not 15 thank you add 2 more years to that and IF I don't get accepted to WestPoint that is a big IF since I am awaiting their reply to my admission letter I will still join the army after high school.

Westpoint,

If you don't get the Army, go into the Marines, I have not problem with voluntary service, I was a Marine wife for 23 years, so you should try that.

That would be all of you then, except the Native Americans

A draft could only be justified in the event of a third world war.
Fighting the nazi menace was a noble reason, trouncing third world countries is not.
