Of course I'm sensitive about it...you basically said you approve the fact that 56000 men died for absolutely NOTHING. Get a job and contribute to the country?
Look who's talking...you will either be flipping burgers, or shooting iraqis 5 years from now...good luck with that

I don't know what casualties are well perhaps since you were out there in the field and have seen it can explain it to me...oh wait you have never served...I will enroll next year when i am 18 im not 45 like you and sit at home post on ATS im joining as soon as I am eligible and I have never said I have served in the army then I would be a poser, so to you anyone who gives military ideas is a poser. Than what does that make you?

Yea, exactly, I HAVEN'T served, and WILL NOT unless there is a reasonable cause for a war. But I'M NOT THE ONE TRYING TO SEND PEOPLE OFF TO DIE, so it makes no difference that I haven't served. You are saying "oh yea, casualties have to happen in war"...yea, they do, which is why you only go to war if you have a good reason, and you'll understand this if you do enlist...it's serious business, not video games. And you're only 17, and going off to the army next year...wonderful. That confirms the fact that you're too much of a dumbass to get into college, and that you are too ignorant to speak on this matter...if you were smart you wouldn't fight in this war. Congratulations.

I know many people currently serving...they were gung-ho about killing terrorists before they left...now they are stuck out in Iraq for something that they don't believe in, because friends are killed out there...this makes you ask yourself, why? Why did a friend die? You can't answer that question.

dont you talk to us about "oh im joining up and this and that bull **** ,what have you done?" frankly i ask you what role in the armed services are you going to play? with an attitude like that you aint going far!
i know this. iv seen and smelled and touched and felt stuff you havnt even dreamed up! dont preach to me about bloody patriatism you dont need to join to be patriotic all you need to do is support your men and women and frankly sending them to die in some godforsaken jugle/swamp is not the way!

Exactly. This kid thinks he is going to go off and shoot terrorists, become some war hero, etc...people with these kinds of egos, attitudes, and just plain stupidity are the ones who don't make it in the military. He will be in for a surprise, but it's his own fault.

And I would just like to add Keep It Clean.

It's fine to debate, but please don't let personal insults and such degrade this thread any more than it already has.

ok I can respect that devil its true I let my ego get in the way of my common sense sometimes but who doset plus the US is not good with gorilla warfare due to several factors that is one downside the US military has to adapt to also it takes a man with Ballz to offer truce so I accept

Wow there seem to be a lot of warnings coming from this thread, even I got one (its gone now). Well back onto the topic I think that the outcome of a second Vietnam depends on did we learn our lessons from the first time. But it would be a lot different since its one country now. If I'm not mistaken there not even communist anymore.

vietnam was a complete and utter waste of lives. but it was necessary for america to learn which lines it couldnt cross. with hindsight we can see it was even more pointless. america interfered not because they rigged the election to join the half of the country but because the government system that the election was rigged to be was communism. if it had been democracy the us would have ignored it as necessary. but since it was communism they thought that that was a bad thing. im not saying it was good, but it failed any way like most communism.
if vietnam happened now, well america would go in with its unreliable M16's that are still in service, use all their high tech weaponry to eliminate the sams and we'd just have another iraq. you cannot expect a country to accept the fact they were beaten and get everyone to accept the changes. there will always be people who were well off during communism and that by entering democracy they are now just an average joe because their position in the party, or whatever the communist government had there, doesnt mean s*** now.
so the people who got most screwed over would be unhappy. now they are going to do something to get back at the new government or the country that caused the new government. there we have terrorism.
terrorism is every countries fear. why? because it causes disruption inside the country. these are people who are ideolistic. some are willing to die for it, eg the pilots when they crashed into the world trade centre.
no amount of force by soldiers is going to resolve this. its like northern ireland. britain doesnt want it but it has to stay there to prevent protestants being killed by the IRA. like in iraq.

Read the Pentagon Papers. The war was unwinnable and the politicians knew it. If we go there again what are the conditions that we 'win?' Because even after we destroy the standing military the civilians are still shooting at us and throwing grenades into MP stations. Without killing the entire population and making 'lebraunsam' we would never 'win.'

Well amigo I'm a military veteran, USMC 1992 - 1997, and recieved my honorable discharge when I was a sergeant.

Heck, you can go from private to four-star general if you have the ability and motivation. A few years enlisted, take college at the same time, graduate with a 4-year degree, get into ROTC, and you're on your way.

I left the military because after I got used to the adventure of it, I realized I was old enough (22) to make my own decisions and I wanted to live my life my own way. Also, I learned about geopolitics and the nature of defense. Once I realized that the US Military is not being used to defend CONUS, but as an offensive tool, and the military-industrial conglomerate is an entity living outside of US law, I decided it'd be best if I left the military, and I did.

That's just my personal view, though.

Make up your own mind about things, but remember that you need to look to all sources of information and not reject things outright, otherwise you're missing information needed to make up your own mind.
