Recoil from a .308??? In an M1A package? You want recoil from an infantry weapon, try shooting a Garand or a Springfield 1903. I don't think the .308 kicks, but then I'm not exactly sensitive to recoil. I do find the recoil spring in the AR-15 a bit distracting though. Hardest recoil I have ever felt was from handload 45-70s custom made for a Thompson Center Encore Rifle. THAT'S RECOIL.

i think the british army should give its troops desert eagles then give the officers smith and wessen .500 cal magnums! now thats a kick only beat my assualt rifles

The desert eagle has recoil and is a very powerful handgun but it is not practical for troops one because it has a limited 7 round magazine and handguns in the military have to be used by even the most physically weak members of the military now we don't want them to break an arm trying to fire a desert eagle

I would like to try it all they need to put on it is a magazine with more rounds and you have a semi automatic rifle
I wish officers were equipped with it

If the rounds are destabilised, they create far greater wounds. The .303 Enfilds and the FN's had this ability.I have seen those lead cores come apart, they are so loose fitted.

Uhh...Stgeorge I also saw the show on Fox about these new ammunitions. We already have the Airburst grenade on the Xm-29, which will become standard issue in 2008. And the smart bullet that can change direction in the air, is already here all of the prototypes and testes have gone well and it will too be standard ammo in tank and humvee machine guns in 2008. By the way have already been to the Moon
There was a thread on here about the bullet which can change course in mid air. You might want to check it out.

Uh huh? A bullet that can change direction in flight? When pigs can fly.And are you absolutely certain as to where that bullet will change direction to?

Uh huh! Like that double barreled gun? Like that M16 you saddled your troops with? Go on.It is a travesty.

It'll be a LONG time before ANY of these plasticy, futuristic weapons ocme out.

Umm... It will be along time since these futuristic weapons come out? What part of they will become standard Army issue in 2008 don't you understand? They are already here but they are being tested. Stgeorge not all the bullets will change course just the air ones used on helicopter, tank. humvee and APC guns. Individual soldiers will not have this "smart ammo". But the troops will have the air burst grenade.

More uncontrolled explosions. I think somebody saw too many Hollywood war pics.High Explosive is nasty stuff.

That is why the full auto feature was taken off the later M-16's. This aint Hollywood and you aint Rambo.
Who said it better? "You can use all the air power and high explosive you want.It is still up to the infantryman to wrinkle out the enemy."

I seen it myself! When we were in Fort Drum ,New york,we let you Yanks fire our weapons. The Sterling brought grins to all these Boo's like it the greatest thrill in life.
The M16's we tried...I see where they got the nickname Mattel's.You are right about the noisy springs.

OMG you are so uneducated about the XM-29! It has a 20mm grenade with air burst capability and with delayed explosion. The gun has a laser only visible on the scope that you use to set the range you want to grenade to explode at. Once the grenade reaches the set range it explodes.

Uh huh! Explodes EXACTLY where you want it? It is THAT good? In fact....don't you have to estimate the range beforehand? What if you are off? But then again, this new gun KNOWS the exact range.

Back to the same question. What do you do in case of a misfire or dud? Put it in your pocket?

The gun has a laser range finder built in do you understand that or is it hard for you? The laser is only visible on the scope if you put your laser on a window it will tell you in the scope how far the window is, then you press a button to increase the explode range by a meter so it will not explode on contact with the window. But it will wait till it goes a meter in then explode. If you still cant understand then you are hopeless.

Ah ha! Laser rangefinder. Does it work under all conditions? What ever happened to the KISS principle? And one last thing, target aquisition...an assault rifle needs to be used in an instant.Do you have to fiddle with the laser thingy? How long does that take? Batteries? The idea was to lighten the load of a soldier. Old soldiers are lazy.Even wearing their helmets at an angle to change the center of gravity.
And once you lighten the load (the reason behind the M16 and lighter 5.56 ammo) saddle him with something else!
