We moved into a house where the original owner had died in the big bedroom (my room). My wife on many occasions has woken up and is looking at an old man who is telling her to get out. My youngest son (now 7) has woken up screaming. He comes into our room and tells us that there is an old man looking at him.

This really started to spook me. I found the name of the man that lived there and went around one day when noone was home, telling him that everything is ok and we would take care of his house for him. I went through the whole has repeating that. Since then noone in the family has said that they saw him.

I personally didn't see him. But I would get this chill ever once in awhile, while standing in a doorway.

Still spooks me a little.

71LSPC You did the right thing. Something similar happened to me.

I suppose these a ghost stories maybe more poltergeist. I have never seen anything other then some people without faces. Twice I have seen them, once when I was younger I saw a small child in a uniform walking down the road he turned round and looked in my direction. He had no face just pale skin. And again about 12 years ago this time an older guy wearing a suit. He turned and looked in my direction and again no face just pale white skin. This time I followed him but he turned a corner and vanished. Very strange.

We moved into a house that was lived in by an old woman she died in the main bedroom which even on a hot day would still feel cold. She used to rattle the draws in the kitchen. Then one day I sat down and had a heart to heart with her and she calmed down a bit. I always got the feeling she was just trying to let us know she was still there and that this was her house. We moved out.

I used to cross a bridge on the way home from a friends house. One night half way across the bridge something pushed me from behind. I was quite shocked and for a minute I thought it was just one of my mates that had seen me and crept up, but when I turned around there was no one there. Feeling spooked I legged it the rest of the way. Two days later the bridge collapsed. It was weeks before it was reopened.

I posted this quite recently but what the hell.

One night I was in west Sussex id been out for a drive after an argument with the misses. I stopped in this quite lane by a gate which lead into a field and got out. It was a warm night, clear sky, and a big full moon. As I stood there having a smoke looking up at the stars, I got this intense feeling I was being watched. I turned round to get back into the car and I couldnt help but notice across the lane in the bushes these bright glowing red eyes staring back at me. I never moved so fast in my life.

This wasnt the first time I had seen something like this when I was younger my mates and i were always up to mischief, and one night we was walking past this house [you know the one, the spooky place we people say bad things have happened]. In the case of this house someone had been murdered. It was being renovated and had scaffolding erected on the outside and no windows. So course we start daring. "Go on climb up there and go in". So up I go but only on the condition my mates come with me. So we are almost up to the first floor window, and I pull myself up and look through the window and whooooo red eyes staring right back at me. I yelled, they yelled we all descended very quickly and of we went. Whether or not my mates believed me, I dont know they were below me and didnt see. But its true.

I lived for a month or so in this old town house by the coast. It was in a terrible state and had been converted into flats. I had the top flat which was in part the attic of the house. For several weeks I had been disturbed in my sleep. I kept waking up but not knowing why. Then one night not long before I moved out, I found out why. I woke because my bed was violently shaking. It took me second to realize what was happening and as I leapt out of bed it continued for about 5 seconds and then stopped. I know I wasnt dreaming. Positive.

I have many more, not just mine, but things that have happened to my family and friends, but it would go on to long.

Well, I dont know if this was really the type of encounter you are looking for but I'll give it a go anyway.

My father passed away when I was 14... A few weeks later my mom came home and asked me my sister's fiencee came and fixed her closet door and I told her no (because well, he didnt come) as well as asked why. She told me that her door was fixed and theres no way it could have been fixed without taking it off the hinges and putting in new washers/springs in the things that slides it along the rails.

Also my aunt told us that while she was getting a shower the radio in her room came on. After she got out she turned it off and went into another room, surprisingly it came on yet again! This time she unplugged it and left the room. Once again it came on (remember - it was now unplugged) so she said "mike stop it" (my dad) and it never happened again.

Well, a few days after my grandmother died, I was getting ready to go to a family dinner type of thing and the music box that she had gotten me started to play. This music box hadn't worked in the longest time too. I know, it sounds a bit general, but it really did happen.

My first encounter with ghost? I was six years old and I was playing with my cousins in the backyard when I saw a man standing in the bushes in the next door house but he was not only standing he was kind of floating and it was day light, I tried to tell my cousins if the could see the man but I was the only one that could see him, he did not talk just stared, later I found out by a picture from the neighbor that I recognized it was her father and he has been death for 30 years. After that I started to see them more often, and could heard them calling by my name.

I have this in fiction, but besides a few minor changes to the name, it is pretty much first experience with a ghost

This happened while I was in the Army, Stationed in Japan ...

I was with two friends and we were lost in Kamakura, near the Great Buddah. We were walking around the old part of town, trying to find our way to the train station when we happened upon an old cemetary. Japanese cemetaries are very interesting, at least to me. We decided to take a walk through and look around. There was an old Japanese man with a white cat sitting on a big rock in the center of this over grown, musty old cemetary. He said 'hi'. We said 'hi'. He asked what we were doing and we told him that we were just looking around. He told us that a family had just been to the cemetary to take care of the grave of relatives and that the candles and offerings were still at the grave. We walked the 15 feet over to the grave and looked. The candles were still burning, the offering was still there, and the little bucket and scrub brush that they use to ritually clean the grave.

This took all of 10 seconds to walk over and notice. We turned around to speak to the man again, but he was gone. The cat was still there, but the man was gone. There was no way he could have ran out of that cemetary that fast. AND ... why the heck was this old Japanese guy speaking perfect English with a New England accent (where I'm originally from)????

He had to be a spook.

I have never see any in my life, and I wouldn't like one chasing me around. . . but I'd love to examine one in a quarantine, and I would take some pics, too. Might even talk to him her whatever:-DD

This is pretty dull compared to some other stories here but this is mine

I was 8 months pregnant with my first child, it was a hot august day, my hubby had ran out to the store and I dozed off on the couch, sitting up.
I wasnt fast asleep, just dozing, and I felt someone run their hand from my forhead to the top of my head, my husband does this often so I thought it was him, he had just come in without me hearing him, I opened my eyes, and there was no one there, my husband didnt get home for 10 more minutes. I think it must have been someone in my family, it felt like a caring caress, not an invasion.

there was this kid around me (st. Louis) who lived in a century home. He had this "dream" one night that a little 6 year old (or so) woke him up saying "come play with me, come get my toys" and then he would lead him into a room in his house, point at the wall and say "there!" Well, he kept having the dream, so he told him mom about it. She said, well you know, you did have a 6 year old uncle who died in this house....The dream would not stop occuring. So eventually the family tore down or broke into the wall and sitting in the middle of the wall was a box of toys. The boy never had the dream again.... do do do do!

Heh, that's the way I feel... I love reading about true ghost stories, but there's no way I'd tempt fate and go where the ghost(s) would be in control. If I could examine one in quarantine like you described, knowing it wouldn't follow me home or something, I'd be able to approach it like a scientist, doing tests and asking it questions.

Should any ghostly encounters before, say, age 18 count? We've all had our imaginations run away with us, and the younger we are, the less likely we are to distinguish our imagination from dreams from reality.

Also, what of the people who have dozens of ghostly encounters to speak of? How is it possible that most people have little to no ghostly contact, but then a few people here or there see ghosts all the time, everywhere throughout their lives?

the people with many have just realized how to pick up the signs while others ignore it. Also...my friend was reading this thing in spanish and he realized what it meant (in english and spanish) and the book/short story said that kids with imaginations are normal, grown ups with an imagination are odd/out of place/immature/etc. I thinks its true because society sucks.
