Old news, but It's no mystery that the older folks get they start speaking their mind, Reagan was nipped in the bud before he started exposing
government secrets.
I recently did read somewhere that Reagan served his last few years as President after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Definitely something to
look into and most likely a way of shutting him up.
During his second term, Reagen used to fall asleep during meetings, have trouble having any real coherent discussions, etc.
Ultimately, reagens second term was not reagen at all, but his advisors...he simply was required to read from teleprompters and thats about all.
Luckily he didn't make any major blunders. We really need a better way of determining the mental health of a leader in power...
I don't know hindsight is always 20/20 and perhaps looking back there were some signs of what he was headed for, but I doubt there was an official
diagnosis of dementia while he was in office.
This was an LP sent out by the American Medical Association
i thought Reagan had something going wrong back when he was paid mouthpiece for anyone with cash in hand - "20 Mule Team Borax" (detergent) -
"Chesterfields" (mini-cigars) - "Union Pacific" (railroad) - "Cigar Institute of America" (lobby) - "General Electric" and list rolls on...
Back when he was Govenor of CA. comics made fun of his doddering ways. He was merely an actor who spoke for who ever paid him. His "Tear down this
wall" speech was given after it was pretty much assured the wall was going to be comming down...
Here is a clip which shows one doctor posing the question to another doctor on if Reagan had Alzheimers while in the White House. Personally in my
opinion Reagan was already loosing it by the time he finally won the election, this is a man i watched my entire life on my television and even in
that spotless realm of TV you could actually see the decline (it was like watching Grandpa).
Just for some useless info... Back then i was a libertarian and i voted for Ed Clark. Out of the other two, Reagan the aging actor -vs- Carter the
nuclear engineer/farm owner there wasn't much of a choice.
i also always felt the Reagan/Bush presidency was akin to the Bush/Cheney presidency as both times the office was run by the V.P.
i know quite a few people who voted for Reagan in the primaries just so Bush wouldn't get in. Neil Young (the songster) publicly came out for Reagan
in fear of Bush 1 getting the Republican nomination.
Anyhow that's getting off topic (it's just that in my life time i have always felt Reagan to be one of the worse presidents)...
And wasn't Nancy into psychics and astrology and stuff? Between her nuttiness and Reagans dementia it makes you wonder who was running the country
during Ronnie's second term. Oh wait, it was probably GHW Bush. Figures.
Sort of makes Reagan more of a puppet and a sympathetic figure in my eyes
