Hello Good Folks at ATS

After lurking here for a couple of years and a few moments of frustration caused by my inability to reply, flag, ... I've decided to join.

I'm a 45 years old European guy. I've studied sociology, psychology, semiotics, epistemology... I try to understand at least the fundamentals of neurology and quantum physics but I have no authority in these fields whatsoever.

While I keep an open mind I tend to stop participating in debates as soon as the others don't feel the need to think in a logical way. Unfortunately that happens a lot here on ATS. However, I've been impressed by the quality (both in terms of content and presenation) of certain longtime members. And that's why I here, at last.

As I'm unfamiliar with the ins & outs of the ATS policy, I'll probably remain rather silent for the first couple of weeks.

Hi, welcome to ATS.

Don't worry about keep quiet, yes there are a few rules and regs to abide by but a mod will advise you of where to look for those soon.

You sound like you will be a knowledgable contributor here on the forums, and i look forward to seeing you about the site.

In the mean time, if you get stuck with anything, just shout.

It's encouraging to feel welcome. I'll try to become more active soon. Unfortunately duty calls right now. Furthermore, after finally signing up to ATS opened yet another world that needs discovering.

For those wondering where the nickname comes from... it refers to a book that interprets the old Chinese zen poem hsin hsin ming. For an atheist like myself, zen is the only "consession" I'm willing to make, thereby refusing to accept any argument that has no other ground than a religious statement or assumption. If it's "not subject to proof" (even if that proof can't be given at this moment due to a lack of understanding yet), it has no place in a decent debate.

Hey, it is good to have another aboard with some experience and interest in science. Some of these debates can get pretty technical so all ideas help in getting to the bottom. The main thing to worry about with the terms and conditions is don't be rude or silly, don't try and make some money and don't try and recruit people for a cause. There are a lot of complex issues going on and just trying to get to the point to identify the problems and solutions is tough enough. Apart from that, let the comments and questions fly. Take Care.

Welcome to ATS. We both took the same route on becoming a member. It gets to you after a while viewing posts and things like that and you have no say, until you join
I see your into some interesting fields there. Also don't worry about staying silent, you will be fine after a mod replies. All questions answered then.
